Southern Maryland misses the snow every single time. It never fails, Its like we have a bubble around us but Western Maryland gets hammered every time.

Decades ago we USED to get winter storms here in Kentucky, and they actually produced a bit of snow. As the climate has changed, and snowfall amounts have decreased on a yearly basis, the "weather channels" have started using bolder and bolder language to try and keep people interested. If it's a couple of inches of snow, even six inches, it's a "winter storm". Laughable. The "snow / rain lines" have been much further north for years and years now.

I'm a canadian born in Welland niagara falls In early Bixby's area area Ontario to the Great Lakes got 15 to 20 feet. I remember the telephone polls were barely sticking out of the snow. Most of the everybody was entering and exiting their houses to the second story. But ice fishing on the well and canal was great.

I will say even if a storm doesn't have intense low-pressure you can still get heavy snow if you have a good overrunning surface of cold dry air and blocking to where your storm is slow moving. I think this storm has those 2. I see someone getting a foot plus out of this

Binghamton is always problematic to forecast just because of the terrain features, and it sits down in a bowl basically. It's very dependent on the direction of the approaching storm as to how much snow we'll see. For this storm, it's gotta get cold too, we still have very warm ground temperatures, everything has melted off so far.

You can see in the South there will be low pressure -- that basically means higher pressure atmosphere elsewhere wants to rush in.

The thing I dislike about accuweather maps is that they always spell NEW YORK and drape it across central jersey so I can't see my county. And my county is always on a dividing line of snowfall. Can't you shorten it to NY or put the label on the ocean?

Bernie...if you wanted to be a real superstar, you would be telling people the effect the geomagnetic pole shift is having on weather, or what effect does the increased levels of cosmic radiation we're experiencing have on lightening and hail formation. You could explain to people why we are seeing more aurora borealis at lower latitudes...Order a copy of "Weatherman's Guide to the Sun" by Ben Davidson. You'd be a real life hero...start your own channel.

They tell us in the summer the weekend weather is great until late Friday evening they say rain all weekend all after people make their costly reservations. Now the big scare for days for January... it is winter already, no surprise. An inch or 3 at the very most although rain will be mixed... stop scaring people.
