In this video i show you around my Millyard Viper V10 motorcycle that I made in 2009. The engine is an 8000cc pushrod V10 from a 1995 Dodge Viper GTS super car with around 500bhp. I have ridden the bike over 9000 miles on the road including trips to the Isle of Man and Guernsey and over 200 mph at Bruntingthorpe proving ground. Motorcycle News test rider Bruce Dunn did 207.101mph and telemetry showed a linear acceleration from zero to 207mph with no curve around 180mph which is usual for motorcycles due to increasing air resistance. The bike weighs 630kg with 10 gallons of petrol in the tank and has a range of around 180 miles at legal road speeds.

I find it oddly heartwarming to see that a man capable of building these fantastic machines is also juvenile enough to install a backfire switch on an eight litre V10 bike.

@@SGTDuckButter Wait for the next video, perhaps Allen will be kind enough to fill us in. I'd guess it's some sort of method by which unburned fuel is allowed to find its way into the exhaust and is ignited there by the heat of the pipe, or perhaps a deliberate mis-timing, or both. Terrifically mischievous device at any rate. It puts me in mind of the "bang-bang" anti-lag systems used by some rally cars to keep their turbos spinning - I have a clever mate who researched how it was done and built a home made version of the same thing on his turbo Lancer some years back. He did it for fun more than anything, although he claimed it did actually work at reducing turbo lag as well. The crackling and popping and banging sounded wicked. One unexpected and unfortunate result was that it quickly destroyed the exhaust system! The dump pipe and pre cat length of pipe did not handle continual fuel detonations for very long, and nor did the cat. It was ridiculous fun, although his neighbours must surely not have agreed. We certainly heard him coming, that's for sure. Hopefully Allen has engineered a way around the exhaust system destruction. Like you I'd be very interested to know how exactly he's done it, especially given it has no turbo.

You made me chuckle putting a bit of imitation coal nicked without telling (she who must be obeyed) on your finger, then pointing a blow torch at it..na, can't feel a thing. What you proved in that few seconds probably took NASA 10 yrs and a billion dollars to achieve, I was rolling about laughing. Allen there's too many things about the Viper V10 bike to mention, the ratchet stand, the forks, brakes and soforth, suffice to say it is a masterpiece of thought and engineering you can be very proud of, I would imagine it's capable of scaring even the most experienced of motorcycle testers with its brute force and weight. Thank you mate for taking the time then sharing it with us, proper British shed building at its very best. Roll on part 2. Cheers, Alex.

My DMR Bolt uses something similar. The swingarm pivots on the bottom bracket so no change in chainstay length. Handy as I run it singlespeed.

@@beaterbikechannel2538 Saves you running a tensioner i guess also? First time i ever noticed the concentric BB/Pivot was on a Cove G-Spot (2000 ish?) although the idea may go back way further than that.

Allen is such a genius at solving engineering problems. I’d love to see Allen do a Hossack front end. The vertical wheel travel means no dive on the brakes and the single shock can be specced for the bike by someone like Revs in Birmingham to Hagon in London. Some hydraulic landing gear world suit the Viper. Stopping at traffic lights with feet up would be a hoot.

Each time I watch one of Millyard’s projects I have to believe that he is one of the few people who is in the league of a Nikola Tesla. Not only is he unbelievably creative but he’s able to manufacture the things he designs. The stark difference is he seems thoroughly likable as well as humble. That’s a rare combination. I worked with a machinist who was blessed with these qualities, both an absolute genius and a kind and gracious man. There are far too few in the world. When he passed away the world lost a treasure.

Just popped back in here for a bit, it's New Year's Eve 2022/2023 and now New Year's Day! I needed a shot of sanity to clear my head, and, Alan, you were the top of my list. I just wanted to take a moment and thank you sincerely for all the things you've shown us over the years and for the inspiration you give to us out here, who can oft-times do little more than marvel at your skill and creations. Once again, please let your family know that we appreciate their sharing of your time. Perhaps if you remind them that you are, literally, revered around the world and that that situation could not have come to pass without their genuine understanding and patience, they will be able to smile at this wish a bit quicker. Mrs. Milyard, I sincerely thank you!! (...and, btw, I hear you make a mean carrot-cake!) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

First the coal addition to the exhaust heat shield, which I thought "clever" and then the switch to make her pop, to which I thought "I wish I would've thought of that". I might make something similar for my Harley, thanks for sharing your amazing build and I'm looking forward for episode 2 👍👍👌👌
