Today we continue with the Viper V10 engine series as we take a look at the 2003 Dodge Tomahawk concept. This was a crazy, outrageous, and powerful motorcycle with the Viper 8.3L V10 engine stuffed between the wheels. Although it didn't end up making it to production, Chrysler ended up with more praise than negativity for this bike, as they showed they were a company full of creative people not afraid to experiment outside their boundaries. The Tomahawk generated tons of attention, and sent a message that Chrysler was bold, ambitious, and fearless.

When I was a young kid and saw this thing, I was quite literally frozen in time. It was just absolute madness to me, I mean what did you even have to compare it to....in 2003?! I didn't care if it really worked or not , or really thought about that sort of thing. Just looking at it was enough to get your adrenaline pumping and imagination flying off in every direction possible. I loved every bit of this madness back then, and still do even if it was really just sort of a rolling/running sculpture.

Watching your video brought back good memories from 2003 when I read about the Tomahawk in Cycleworld. I remember in the article "0 to fatality in 2.6 seconds". The editors were impressed with the concept. But told how the test quadrocycle would idle in gear at 25mph. And the test rider accidentally tipped it over because Chrysler techs forgot to unlock the quad steering so it could pivot when turning. I've been riding 19 years. I've never been a Chrysler guy. But I'll always remember the Tomahawk. And hope someone make quad cycles more common place and functional.

The range criticism is absolutely valid as far as I am concerned; I had the same criticism for most of the Orange County Choppers custom bikes (as I recall, so did Jesse James). For me, the ride "begins" at 100 miles. I don't want to have to stop for gas 3 times to get there. I think the Tomahawk is best defined as a "curiosity" - that is to say I am sure it would be fun to try it out on a closed course, but it's not practical enough to warrant purchase.

I remember seeing it here at an auto show and was in awe just seeing the concept. But not sure if it's me getting older now, but when seeing it's side profiles, it doesn't really look that good anymore. Yet when the photos shows it at a 3/4 angle seeing both front/back and side, it still look amazing. Maybe just me.

I first came across the Tomahawk somewhere around 2009-2010, & thought it was one of the coolest things ever! It almost looks like one of the bikes from Tron, & I've always loved aggressive, futuristic designs. Speaking of, could someone who knows more about this sort of technical stuff explain to me why they went with the 4 small wheels, instead of 2 larger ones which would've made it even more like the Tron Lightcycle?

Great example of an engineering feat. To have that much H.P. under you, they better have the frame holding you in the seat because the thrust would leave you standing there as the bike flies out of your grip and down the road without you.

I loved it when I first saw the concept photos back in 03' and would've bought one myself if I could. Screw the feds, I would've thrashed it on & off track. Only cops that would stop you are ones that would want to ride it. 50 miles of range is perfect for track use. No wasted fuel storage, just enough to have fun for an hour and then refuel. I totally thought about the Alibaba-Hawks too. I think they look incredibly dangerous and super fun! I want the Carver Trike though. Best non-car ever!!!

I don't know why they didn't just put single wide wheels in the front and rear. Doing so would have made it far more maneuverable as well as street legal. They could have outfitted it with a drag radial in the rear and marketed it as a drag bike. Regardless, gotta give them props for building this concept.

I'm thinking keep dual front & have a single, wider wheel/tire in back. dual front for the 4 calipers on 2 rotors + the hydroplaning mitigation benefit & ofc then, 2 tires in front..drag bike, indeed but top speed record bike, as well.
