Millyard RC374 Honda six replica - Episode 3 - How its made

In this video I show how I completed the engine build of my RC374, the first bench test, then how I made the wheel hubs, brakes, forks and swinging arm and build up the front and rear sub assemblies. I didn't take many pics during the engine assembly in 2017 because I was absorbed in the process and simply forgot!

Totally. I am an engineer, restore historic racecars, and like to think I am pretty good engineering things, but this man's ability, knowledge, and vision just blow me away. He looks at a picture in a book, and says, "ok, I will just make one!" Also his knowledge of motorcycles in general, and what will be a donor for his vision, is just remarkable.

Watching Allen's video is a bit like a double edge sword. One side it's brilliant and mesmerising to watch, inspiring and uplifting. The other side is when I try and cut a cylinder head and end up with a slopey side, bits missing and a jar full of extras I didn't fit and it doesn't even start. The first time I met Mike hailwood he was sitting on the 250 that used to be in the Donington collection housed in the Donington Museum at Donington Park. Not sure what the event was. He was on a small display on the main road from the museum going north, outside the main circuit, next to a wall, revving it to please the few who knew what it was, and who he was. I was surprised how few stopped to check out the incredibly rare spectacle. No one spoke to him. I have no idea if they were in awe, disinterested or just ignorant. So I asked him if he knew how the double twin leading shoe brakes were linked up to the brake lever. He said: “I have no idea. I just rode them”!! This reply is of course at odds with the many anecdotes of Mike the Bike having a big say in various design features of different bikes during his career. He was a great bloke, even if his version seems to be somewhat at variance with the historical record. Maybe he was happy with the brakes and never needed to make any suggestions. The sound of your Six is just how I remember the original all those years ago. Cue the green tinged Guy Martin ‘Proper Impressed’ emoji.
