Just subscribed, I think there needs to be more conversation concerning afrobeats and how we got to this point of global recognition. Everyone had a role to play and while we praise artists like burna boy, wizkid and davido. We should never forget the likes of don jazzy, d'banj and tuface that laid the foundation.

This was well fleshed out with timelines. Great job! 👏🏽 Puts a whole lot into perspective and I have more clarity about the turn of events. Majority of us were supporting Dbanj back then, but Don Jazzy made the right call, Afrobeat wasn’t ready for that quantum leap as at then, they would have been shot into oblivion if they made the move back then. What Don Jazzy has done with Mavin superstars like Rema & Ayra Star is a proof-point that he’s a strategist and a calculative person, or simply put, an ENIGMA. Dbanj on the other hand was an opportunist who focused on the small details (certainly not seen as small in the context back then) and missed out on the bigger picture. FYI, If I were Dbanj, I would definitely go the same route!! We talking about YE here! It’s a million dollar call 📞😅 #Subscribed!

Absolutely, some might label it as short-sightedness, but D'banj's decision was spot on for his career trajectory at that particular juncture. In the music industry, artists often have a limited window of around 10 years, especially if music is their true passion. Those who extend beyond this timeframe are considered legends in the fame game, no exaggeration. D'banj crossed paths with Kanye West eight years into his musical journey, presenting a tremendous opportunity for his career. However, it's worth noting that Mo'Hits Records, at that moment, might not have been fully equipped to handle the impact of transitioning to an international record label. There's also the possibility that Kanye's label wasn't the ideal choice for the move; perhaps opting for an international label imprint could have altered the trajectory. Still, this aligns with Don Jazzy's assertion that "Dem no rate afrobeats that time." In the end, having a contingency plan helps preserve a legacy, allowing everyone to pursue their dreams in their own unique ways, lolz.

@milorhilary I partially disagree. You all are looking at the matter with a benefit of hindsight. You can't conclude that dem no rate afrobeats if somebody did not try it out. Jazzy will probably be saying the same thing till now Bit because Dbanj tried it out, everyone in the industry to gauge their readiness in terms of acceptance. Furthermore, the outsiders also were able to spotlight as a new frontier especially since Oliver Twist and Fuse ODG blew up shortly after Dbanj joined Good Music. Another dimension is that who knows Dbanj's foray would have been successful if jazzy was on board with him. Who knows? What has been (afrobeats going global) may not have been, if someone didn't have the boldness to sacrifice his career and elevate the industry. In the end, everyone played their part as destiny would have it. For Dbanj, that moment solidified his legendary status in Africa. There are so many musicians with hit songs, legends are the ones who elevate the industry and created pathways that others follow. Same with jazzy, he was able to prove that you can build a world class label from your corner in Africa and liberalised the label ownership. End

Liar.. Get your facts right.. Dbanj convinced Don Jazzy to come to Nigeria. Dbanj was the brain of Mohit and his Mom helped fund the label... Make una dey give Dbanj him credit biko. Dbanj found Wande Coal that was was why Wande didn't take side. The snoop dogg ft was moved by Dbanj... Don Jazzy was a guru with technology while Dbanj only sings, entertain, and bring in the contracts.
