In this tool review we'll compare the Milwaukee M18 Rocket light vs Milwaukee M12 Rocket light vs Ryobi light. Which is the best jobsite light for you?
While I do tell which one I use mostly and why, each one has their own unique advantage over the other. The Milwaukee M18 Jobsite light has the advantage of extending to 7 feet tall. Both the Milwaukee lights have a slight yellow tint to their lighting that gives better color clarity to whatever the light is focused on.
The Ryobi jobsite light offers a much brighter experience and a really good spread for more coverage of light.
The Milwaukee M12 rocket light is the most compact, lightweight, although the Ryobi is marginally heavier. But the Milwaukee light uses lighter, smaller batteries, and, it has the best spread and projection of light, even though it has the smallest lens.
As far as pricing goes, the Milwaukee M18 Rocket light 2131-20 comes in at the most expensive with prices ranging from $189 - $229: homedepot.sjv.io/9W9vMY
The Milwaukee M12 Rocket light 2132-20 ranges vastly from $99 - $179 depending on the promotions being run: homedepot.sjv.io/5bqOMo
The Ryobi light P782 can be had at Home Depot for as low as $139 WITH a charger and battery. I've seen it as low as $106 on Direct Tools including the shipping as a factory blemished which is same as new. homedepot.sjv.io/a1L3xq
When it comes to overall value, and during my time of having all 3 together. I used the M12 the most still. The M18 rocket lights are just too big to go, "grab really quick" or for loading up. I would use the M18 on jobs that required directional light from above or for long jobs.
I compared these three lights and left the DeWalt jobsite light out because these three, unlike the DeWalt, can all be plugged in using an extension cord, as well as run off of battery. Something that understandably is welcome when on the job.

Really good information here, thanks. I agree that that M12 battery is just as easy to remove from this light as from any other M12 tool - don't understand the difficulties some are having. Also, I think many are adjusting the height wrong on the M12 and then complaining. If you want it less than full height all you have to do is fully extend both sections without locking it open, and then let the top section slide back into the now fully extended lower section. then slide the lower section up and down as needed and it holds great.

Yep! I think many are doing it wrong too. Admittedly it's not hard to get wrong though. I myself sometimes will be doing something and the top part just falls because I didn't snap it in place, LOL. Thanks for the comment!

Glad I could help! There are sales right now on smaller lights that can mount to tripods. I bought a 10K lumen Metabo HPT from Lowe's on a BMSM. Ended up costing $140 and I bought a DeWALT heavy duty tripod for $64 from Amazon. It blows these out of the water for the money. It's also hybrid and can charge other devices, plus has a much smaller footprint! The color isn't as nice as the Milwaukee though, but it's so much brighter that it becomes moot. Just something to consider! Been over a year since I made this video and those options weren't available then.

Nice review, catching one of your older Vids here as I'm a newer subscriber! Got this m12 rocket with the current promo for $199 w/ 2 6's. Think my 2 year old daughter will like it as her room light?😅 our house didn't come with lights in most rooms.

I passed on both rocket lights last year for the packout light hack. I was thinking if it pops up again grabbing the m12, but seeing the ryobi, that might actually work just fine as well. I have few other ryobi lights, and did t realize they had one too. Good looking on the reviews!!! Generally if it’s not a power tool, I like my accessories to have that hybrid option. Kinda blew my mind that the new dewalt fan went from hybrid, to battery only ☹️
@ToolDeals
@ToolDeals 2 жыл бұрын
Same! I prioritize hybrid devices for their versatility. Sometimes a battery dies, or isn't nearby and I don't have the anxiety of, "How much time do I have left?!" I can't believe DeWalt's light doesn't offer the same setup.

I don't understand if the m12 battery on mine is supposed to be so tight or if I'm missing some kind of release button for it. EDIT: Looks like just working in a battery a few times. I added some oil to the inside of the battery shaft and the slide-in portion of the battery. Working it a little bit helped. I could see in cold weather it becomein a pain. I think the smaller m12 batteries might go in and out better because they won't get caught on the lip of the battery cradle.

Used my m12 for the first time and I was able to get the 2.5 battery out but the 6ah battery is stuck solid. I might have to return the whole thing back to the depot. This will be the 3rd time I’m needing to bring back a brand new M tool. Not happy with Milwaukee. And the third battery of theirs that needs to be returned.

does the ryobi fold up small enough to fit in a packout? 🤔
@michaelbuddy
@michaelbuddy Жыл бұрын
The m12 can go lower, you just need to twist the head so it doesn't fall back into it's little cradle. The m12 build is weird but maybe the more you get used to it, the faster deployment and storage gets. It packs up nice, pretty light. In any case it's better to deal with than the classic work light tripod. I do like the foot switch for the ryobi.

Wonder how these do outdoors, and in high wind environment. Being from NW Texas wind/sandstorm gets pretty bad. Sure Kansas gets windy as well since its just as flat.
@ToolDeals

That's a GREEEEEAT question. The Ryobi wins for sure. It has such a wide stance. The Milwaukee's... I don't know, they could surprise us, but I haven't had an opportunity to test that out. If the winds are that strong I'm probably staying in the house LOL; if I can help it that is.

Out of all 3 lights....the m12 rocket looks like it has the most utility (lightweight....compact...and durable)...the m18 is too big and bulky...and the last one ryobi needs more developing...( the bracket that holds its light is flimsy....the base is not compact and its too cumbersome to open and operate).

Todays work lights are a upgrade for us oldies. Bottom line its a work light and its gonna be abused. There is a huge list of lights out there now. For me the ryobi works fine. For the price of m18 u can buy two ryobi. I own milwaukee tools as well they are certain tools i choose milwaukee over ryobi. For this category for price and the abuse it will get i choose ryobi .

@@ToolDeals Don't blame Flex. Sounds like a shipping issues to me. I have no plans of getting into premium platforms. Kobalt and Ryobi is perfect for me. Ridgid would be considered premium. 😊 Once in awhile I splurge and buy premium only during 1/2 off sale. All three tower lights. I use jackery 300 power station. Its like having two 12ah batteries at 1/2 the cost of one 12ah battery.
