So cool, glad to see you sharing this idea. Sadly my battery investments went into EGO, Dewalt and i have let 2 other brands wither away. Yes, i can see making the mods that i would need and may do so thanks to your enlightening me. As always good job

Thanks! It's always been the problem/challenge, of having so many different battery lines. I hate it. In the past, you were a bit stuck, as no manufacturer had a mature line of tools to cover just about everything. My real awakening was when Sears released the NexTec around 2008 or 2009. I was getting sick and tired of the NiCad & NiMh batteries in everything wearing out so quickly back when I had my Motorcycle Shop. The NexTec was pretty much one of of the first lithium based tool platforms, and they had a selection of multiple tools available. It was just 12v, compact and they even had a "Supercharger" that would give 50% battery charge in 2 minutes! Full in 30! Since my shop (overall) spent a lot of money at the local sears (my half/Wearhouse half was my motorcycle shop, the other half of the building was & still is my friends Custom BodyShop + Collision, so LOTS of tools), the Sears let me bring some hard wood in and try some demo tools. I was crappin bricks, this 12v drill, 1/3 the size of my DeWalt 18v NiCad Drill, would drive deck bolts & screws into hardwood better & quicker. I milked the heck out of those. I actually STILL have & use them regularly. Even have the original batteries yet! Cant even tell you how many charge cycles are on those batteries. I've had to replace the chucks in both drills though, which was no big deal. Got some Jacobs chucks online for about $10 each. They are getting tired though, and seems they fetch an absolute premium on eBay, so thinking of selling them. Turns out, the NexTec was MADE BY MILWAUKEE! Or rather, Milwaukee's Parent company, TTI (Techtronics Tool). They were basically Gen 1 version of Milwaukee's M12 tool line! I did get some M12 stuff a couple years ago. I wanted the speed ratchet, and got a screaming deal and came with the driver. Definitely a much much more refined version of the Nextec. So in the end, I'm consolidating battery lines yet, so here is what we have: -NexTec: which I still use, but will be selling both drills, vacuum, auto-hammer & oscillating tool (Can't get blades, uses non-standard size). Vacuum, Oscillating Tool have already been replaced my Milwaukee M18 versions, I have a M12 driver already and will need to pickup a M12 Drill, and that will replace the NexTec. Auto-Hammer, while works and seems like a good idea, I used it once, ever, and that was on a Scooters Crank, as the wrist pin siezed in the crank. Hardened Steel, couldn't cut it out without causing major damage, so ran about 20 battery charges through the auto hammer and fit the auto hammer in there to slowly, but surely, tap the wrist pin out.... Waste of a day... -SnowJoe 40v snowblower & chainsaw: The Chainsaw is absolutely awesome! Snowjoe DOES make a good quality battery. Got both in 2014, batteries are holding about 85% original charge. My father killed his WORX 40v chainsaw, so we sold those batteries. I'll be giving him the SnowJoe chainsaw and my batteries. I'll be converting my Snowjoe 40v blower to operate on 2xMilwaukee M18's (Basically, exactly what the Milwaukee Mower does to get 40v), so that is one battery line completely eliminated. When purchased, Milwaukee Did not (and still doesn't) have a Snowblower, nor Chainsaw. -WORX: Hedge Trimmer, Weed Wacker, PowerShot portable pressure washer, JawSaw, Small Shop Leaf Blower (not very powerful but does the job). These I got around 2013. WORX does have good solid tools! However, the batteries are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. For that reason, I can no longer recommend WORX products. The tools get beat and beat and beat. I do my yard, parents yard (over 1 acre), the family Motel, and my grandmothers yard, oh and our other rental cottages. The tools aren't dying! The batteries.... Junk Junk Junk Junk. The FleeBay knock off battery outlasted 3 WORX batteries. Since none was available, I ended up making my own battery adapters for the WORX. I now use my Milwaukee M18 batteries to power ALL my WORX tools. The WORX works so dang well now! Especially run time with a 12ah battery, trimming the yard. Burned up the motor in the trimmer last summer, had an off the shelf motor from a project that happened to fit, happy day! some slight modifications, and a ton of hot glue injected into the motor housing to hold the motor still, and I finished out the summer with the trimmer and it still works! It will be replaced with a Milwaukee QuikLok trimmer once it kicks the bucket. So thats WORX battery line eliminated and now powered by Milwaukee! Harbor Freight's Central Machinery: I have a HFT 12v Grease Gun. Ni-Cad. Works great! About 20 years old now. Bought it to grease our fork lift at the shop way back. What would take an hour by hand, took about 5 minutes with the powered grease gun!. New, it was $39.99! Insanely cheap! came with 2 batteries & charger. Unfortunately, those NiCads didn't last long, thankfully there were two, so after greasing for a couple minutes, I could at least finish with the second battery. Converted the grease gun to run on Milwaukee M12 batteries. Hard to believe Milwaukee wants over $250 for virtually the same tool, just of course, newer and more refined. So thats another battery line eliminated! Milwaukee: Of course, Milwaukee tools are taking over all my tool needs. Especially the batteries have been excellent for me! I've also taken a bunch from the battery recycle in at Home Depot, and have been able to fully repair I believe 6 M18's, and 2 M12's. Usually 1 bad cell, and one of the M18's was just discharged too low and not recharged in a timely manor, so charged each cell manually, replaced the PCB with an AliExpress one for $6 and it tests at full 100% capacity (90Wh, which is whats also stamped on it). The Milwaukee tools are the tools I rely on and beat the most, and they are holding up! RYOBI: I DO have RYOBI tools. RYOBI is made by TTI, who also makes Milwaukee. I DO NOT have RYOBI batteries however. I have battery adapters that let me use the Milwaukee batteries. I get Milwaukee tools for the stuff I use frequently and rely on to get jobs done. I get RYOBI for the nice to have and Niche tools, that I use infrequently. Many Ryobi tools are just Prosumer versions of the Milwaukee, and some, like the heat gun, are actually identical mechanically inside, other than the power switch (took one of each apart). RYOBI I can get dirt cheap from the Direct Tool Outlet. So, no idea why I wrote so much. Tried a new coffee mixture this morning, which could explain int. I usually drink Mushroom coffee, called DOSE. However, I needed an extra kick this morning, as Vincent had me up at the crack of dawn, so I made my old super-strong Vietnamese coffee, but added my Mushroom Coffee to it. Dang what a kick. Wrote most of this while not even looking at my screen. I'm actually stearing at my security camera waiting for Mobile Tesla Service to arrive, as I have yet another dead Model X key-fob, only last a year 😞 Lets get to the conclusion: Won't be long, once the NexTec is sold, I'm pretty much down to M12 & M18 batteries for everything only!

Two other things: 1: Please accept my sincere apologies for the short novel I wrote. 2: Had a brilliant idea! I can get a Milwaukee M18 battery shell & PCB from AliExpress. I think I'm going to build a Tesla powered M18 battery! Using all Tesla cells! A battery shell for 10 cells is $13 shipped. Get two shells, see how long my mower runs on them :-) Two shells + 20 Cells. The larger 12ah equivalent battery size shell is about $30, but uses 21700 cells :-( I could still do the smaller 18650's, but would need to shim each cell, not ideal, especially for long term.

@KmanAuto grin you gave a great reply. I was taken back and had to reread it the next day without the drink that I was enjoying the 1st read. I have followed you now what, 10 years. You had just acquired the black MS. I was reading everything tesla back then and you were almost a daily poster back then. I read all of them and followed your stories on your busness and those new electric 2 wheel mobile devices and your repairs and warnings. You were never shy about texting and experimenting. You did well teaching your followers about needed to done to stay safe. This is where I came from watching and enjoying your videos. Taking the boys to your train club and taking out the electric train was always a treat. I got a real appreciation for your owning an ev while I was still waiting 2 years for mine to be made. It's a blur now but I think I had to wait almost 4 years from the 1st day I got to sit in a model X till I was able to get mine which by the way turns 8 years old this month on the 24th. 😅 So I learned to have fun by watching you take the boys on roadtrips and using superchargers while pulling out your folding chairs and table and when my mind settled down from how cool you guys were you then upped the game and would pull out a bbq and start cooking lunch. So while you all were enjoying all that the coals were dumped and everything cooled off and got stored back into the fronk. You were the only one who was doing this all with your own logos on everything. Sadly I have not once been able to top that. The best I figured out was hitting drive throughs to pick up meals and then go to SC'ers to open most of the doors and sit with feet out and having small pick nicks. I could see others charging who seemed to remind me of me like they could be thinking that's cool and why haven't we done this. Not really sure but it seemed charging took about 1 1/2 hours back then. Not like today where 20 to 30 minutes is about normal. 😂 As for the small batteries go back in the early days of electric tools like 2006 the batteries were crappy. If you didn't manage the levels of charge and trying to use them at least once every 3 weeks they would die or not perform a good charge and run life could be cut in half or more. I could take these apart and find a cell that flipped and needed to be shocked to get it back in polarity and get in back in action. But these were what I called a sick battery and it needed to be taken care of more frequently. I belonged to a model boat club in Golden gate park around 2008 and got into RC boats. This helped because I would make my own battery packs with nickle batteries and would have pleanty to repair my home tools and do better fixes that didn't require shocking batteries back into action and was almost my own battery co. For making custom packs. Then I started learning from you about the tesla batteries and I have not looked back. All my boats were now lipos and all my tools were now becoming lipos. I started getting tesla batteries on internet that came out of model S and X's and my hobby became so next level. Longer run times and faster potential with more power. Being retired then I had lots of time to do bench work and really customize my work. Repairing lipo power tools was just that next thing and upgrading sick lipo packs with tesla batteries made my tools so much better. Using my own chargers and dumping the stock battery chargets was a game changer in those day as well. When I got my 1st EGO tool I was wanting to see how that battery was going to do. To my surprise I later found that these were smart batteries and on a scale of a tesla. I hated to put those batteries away with a full charge so I would run them down a little then store them. As I got more tools I got more batteries that came with them. Then I got my 1st 10kw battery and almost never used my small ones. So I came up with battery day around here and took care of all of my stuff. Then I found out by accident that the ego battery has a smart chip in them and if you put a full charge in and then made the mistake of storing it no harm would be done. The battery has a countdown timer and after less that 30 days they will discharge down to a safe level. A short quick change and it was 100% and ready to go. Ego came up with a power bank unit that let's you add 4 ego batteries and have 120v ac for backup power. When I hear a bad storm is coming I just plug it in and have all of them at 100% in case I need power to charge lights, phones, radios, electric heater etc. If I end up not needing it I just forget about it and let them self discharge to safe. Now I have big batteries mixed with smaller ones right now, but I will be getting all of them at 10kw for a total of 40kwh for backup. It already will run for a few hours but when I get them maxed out then I'll be ready for a big power outage. I could see you dropping 4 of those big ego batteries into your electric locomotive and run all day on that. But you will come up with something better for sure. Looking forward to your next idea. 👍
