Enjoyed the video. I am in the process of refurbishing a baritone Giannini from the early 1970s. Liking it a lot so far.

Kala-ASAC-B is fantastic! But, all these instruments are outstanding.

My Ohana Baritone Mahogany Ukulele BK-35CG with cutaway just arrived and I got it tuned. Apparently it had the original GHS strings which seem to be junk and very hard to tune. I'll be changing them soon. And not sure why yet, but it just feels smaller than my Kala that i've been playing. :o)

Mim do you have a comparison of solid KALA acacia vs solid KALA mohagony ❓

Danke. BK20 is in my price range.

Now that's a classy review and comparison. Thanks, Mim. You North Americans seem to need to pay attention to humidity. We Brits don't, so I'd say without hesitation that the Kala KA-ASAC-B is the standout uke here. The first Ohana might open up some day, but all that gloss won't help. The BK-20 is another good one but that tone...it's just personal really. For me, the Kala's closest rival in that general price area is the KA-SMHB. Decisions, decisions...

One said that at first, the uke’s wood still thinks its a tree. But the more it gets played, the more it will begin to sing🙂

Kala is the front runner....

LOL, you held that third one up to the camera while you were talking and it amplified your voice thru the back.

Acacia has a very different sound compared to mahogany; if you’re looking to compare ukulele brands, it would have been better to compare ukes both made of acacia or both made of mahogany.

How much is this acacia baritone it's really pretty and has sustain🥀

So the Ohana needs less attention to humidification? Do they come with a hard case?

that Kala acacia is truly a GEM. i got mine a little while ago after researching at least 50-60 baritones, and that one was the clear winner. if you ask me, that uke beats ANY Pono uke at the same price range--not just for sound quality and durability, but also for stunning looks. the Kala SMHB (solid mahogany) is an identical uke, but in mahogany instead of acacia, and it's also an amazing gem. neither of these ukes are being made anymore, so if you see one, grab it!!! they're VERY special, wonderful models. i feel like Kala exceeded itself and excelled with that line of ukes, and you get WAY more instrument than you pay for :)))

Hi Mim! Thanks for doing this review, it was very helpful. I'm surprised that these Ohana Baris don't seem to be more popular (there are very few videos of them online) as they seem to be great quality instruments for a lower price point than others. How would you compare the BK-20 to a Kala KA-B, especially in terms of sustain and volume? It seems like the Ohana would be the next step up from the kala in price and quality, but it's hard to know without hearing them played back-to-back and/or in person. Thanks!

Living in Alaska with temperature and humidity changes I'm trying to get a solid recommendation for a "good" beginner baritone uke. Would the Kala with the laminate mahogany back and sides with the solid top be a good choice?

Well, you have to consider the price and the quality. As a beginner you have to consider that you don't know nothing about the future of you playing ukulele. Think a little bit, because you can get all the facts about wanting to start a ukulele journey and make the right choice. Have a nice day/night. ✌

The Ohana had laminated sides and back 2nd one while that Awesome Kala is solid acacia 🌹

LAte to the party, I guess. Anytime I've had the chance to play comparible mahogany and acacia baritones at the same time I've always preferred the sound of the mahogany - a little 'softer', a little less 'sharp', a few more bass-end harmonics, and nice sustain. YMMV.

Tried several today and they are a very good ukulele for the money. Fell in love with the BK20. Sound was awesome. Normally selling for $246 - $280 at a brick and mortar store and $209 with free shipping online.

Lewis Sanders Are you serious? By that rationale, if you’re not the best at something, you shouldn’t do it? How would people learn if they should just quit if they’re not the best by your logic? Piss off
