For someone with a small telescope the Eagle Nebula can be hard to find. Also, it's in black & white i.e. no colors.

I don’t think we will ever completely comprehend the whole meaning of the universe, it will be something that will consume us forever. Which will not be a bad thing as there’s more things in the universe that we can ever comprehend or understand in all our lifetimes. @@skhotzim_bacon Heh... well, in the beginning, my 486 DX/33mhz with 4 megabytes of RAM couldn't run Xwindow very well... so at the start it just meant getting things done in console, with liberal usage of apps using SVGAlib. If you want to see what early Xwindow looks like, all you have to do is set your X session to run fvwm or twm. Of course by the late 90s you could just fire up an early build of GNOME or KDE. Things moved very fast back then. Don't get hung up on feeling nostalgic for something you never lived through, though...

@@JonnoPlays Hmm... yeah I can't really tell ya where I found it. But, ya know, we had AltaVista which was pretty good for the time... Google wasn't the first search engine, they just perfected it. At any rate I'm sure I was looking at astronomy pics from astronomy sites. The Internet was actually fun back then!

0:25 one on the right looks like a dog, 0:38 on in the middle looks like a Wookie, 0:50 one on the left looks like a Lion. No, I'm not trolling. When I look at the original picture they look like nothing but towering pillars of cloud, the 3D makes a massive difference. 2:15 That is an Orc, tell me that's not a LoTR Orc. YAY. Absolute legendary wonderful person. The transformation of cold kinetic energy into electromagnetic processing plants ( Stars) for me is the fundamental ongoing process of the universe. Where and when the conditions are met. Neutrons precipitate and then decay into the low energy hydrogen clouds where inertia and gravity then do their thing to accumulate kinetically so nuclides respond and Emag begins. When the steady state was dismissed for the lack of matter creation regions these pillars and the region leading up to them is a pretty good candidate for that. The Big Bang really needs to be celebrated for her part and then put to bed so we can get on with other cool stuff.

I enjoyed this NASA video more because they didn't include the usual information lines blocking out the awesome 3D style tour. Adding the size of Plutos orbit into the third pillar was a nice touch and showed the absolutely huge size of these pillars Thanks Anton for the technical explanation though, it was very good 😍👍

I don't know why exactly, but when once as a child of maybe between 6 and 12 years old, i found these nebula images in books absolutely mesmerising, and it fanned the flame of my love of astronomy. But these days while still undoubtedly beautiful and amazing to look at, they tend to fill me with a strange sense of dread. Does anyone know what i mean? It conjures in me as i attempt to understand them, feelngs of existential dread. I LOVE to learn more and every new discovery we get is music to my ears, but also terrifies me in some deep dark corner of my mind and I've never quite managed to put my finger on why so far....? 🤔 It's like the older and wiser i get on this stuff, the more interested AND scared of it I become.

Wondering if the IR sensors on JWST are going to be useful for getting through the cold hydrogen cloud to see what's going on inside of the trunks. My initial impression is that the temperatures involved are cold enough that this might not be useful, but It may be helpful for using background radiation to provide a density analysis of the path through each trunk. (Background here not meaning the cosmic microwave background radiation, but the background of other stars and galaxies that are going to be hotter than the gases and densities within the trunk's.)

So Anton, the light and radiation from the star acts like erosion on the cloud, and denser clumps are like the rocks you might see on top of pillars made of softer rock in some older rocky deserts.

That Jet of Cosmic material (use to be Cosmic Rays, there may be rays but most of it is ripped apart quantum particles). This is the first I've seen/heard of this, I'd like to find out more about it, did a singularity form out of the collapsing cloud directly, has it had enough time for Large Star life cycle?

One of the amazing things for me that the Pillars of Creation are 4-5 light years long. The scale of these macroscopic gas cloud structures is incredible.

M16 Pillars of Creation (aka The Star Queen) is not really that difficult for amateur astrophotographers to image. I have obtained good images with a 72mm dia x 432mm focal length refractor using a cooled cmos camera and stacking software. I have also zoomed in with an 8 inch Celestron SCT with good results. In fact people have obtained good images with the little 50mm Seestar robotic telescope.

You can image this with the ZWO seestar. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I got one and it is super easy to setup and take pictures of many different objects around us. I did take a picture of this, you will want a dark sky to do so probably bortle 4 or better. The telescope is only $500 which is a lot of money, but fairly cheap compared to similarly performing equipment. I definitely recommend it for its performance and ease of use. I just want more people looking up!

If you are really interested in astrophotography and want to learn how to do it in a more traditional way, I really recommend Nebula Photos on YT. He has some phenomenal tutorials for several different types of setups and how you can build a rig that fits almost any budget. I learned from him and I was able to produce some amazing photos that I am proud of.

I’ve been thinking of finally splurging and getting a nice telescope so I can do some astrophotography of my own once I’ve developed the necessary skills and equipment… I could look into the night sky on a clear night (when I’m away from my urban environment with light pollution) for hours on end… When I am at my hunting camp in deep in the woods, the sky looks like it’s been bedazzled with countless jewels! I use my app on my iPad to find the different objects, which I can’t see with my unaided eyes, but I think I’d love to see them through the telescope with my own eyes for the first time! Any tips for getting my first telescope? Camera? Accessories?

@@ValkyrieofNOLA most objects are still hard to see through a telescope. You will need a camera to see a lot of what is out there. The seestar will live stack the photos to allow you to see it in real time on your phone. For direct observation I would recommend somewhere that has 0 light pollution and elevation if possible. I've been to the Grand Canyon and even on a full moon that sky is beautiful.

Does anyone else remember way back when NASA first released this photo and the astronomical community (including Sagan, IIRC) initially referred to the formation as the “Barking Dog Nebula”? Or am I just being completely Mandela affected? I'll buy that. Stars replenish renewable heat energy when they decay their atmospheres as heat waves of dark heat energy outside of entanglement of mass could also decay as small particles of mass production creation. Accumulation of mass particles could form pillars from force directly into space and as atmospheres. Dark heat energy throughout space as a weak external magnetic field.
