In this episode of the Minecraft Beta 404 Challenge, we take on the massive task of decorating the interior of our cave. Due to the nature of 404, we start running pretty low on supplies, but thanks to the massive support of the community, the comment wall came in to save the day we profited over a stack of iron and a few diamonds from the tunnel. Hope everyone has a great weekend :D

I love how different building is in these old versions, using glass-glowstone together like that is something you rarely see in modern builds if glowstone is used at all

As someone who has a lot of problems with sensory overload (especially in regards to hearing), I really enjoy this calmer style of Minecraft gameplay--no exaggerated screaming for the sake of getting people's attention, no BS, just a chill (yet tense) game of Minecraft. It's the style of content that really got me into the game in 2012-2013, and I'm glad to see somebody's keeping it alive.

I love how the first episode really felt like a video from that era. Talking about pouring water on lava already in place to make a portal like it's a rarely known strat. The feeling is still here. Glass-glowstone.

Building changes a lot with time, doesn't it? For example, back in the day people used a lot of glass-glowstone and jack-o-lanters to light builds up. Nowadays, we have so many light sources like the froglights. I genuinely miss the simplicity of the old times.

I love seeing beta minecraft builds, people are forced to try making cool builds with a quite restricted pallette(like glass-glowstone-wood+2 other blocks they test because it might look good), and I feel like modern minecraft builds always use some kind of gradient pallette, which reduces the use of a block to what color it is, instead of things like it's pattern or how it interacts with other ones

I love beta mechanics, personally. If you run Java edition, you should try out Nostalgia Tweaks or beta world generators; the gameplay changes from b1.8+ really changed the context of existing mechanics, and the worldgen didn't recover the same splendor until Caves and Cliffs added some of the intrigue back. One of my favorite examples is how the non-stacking food changes things up; cookies are the only stackable beta food, making their abysmal value actually worthwhile in some cases. Bread is a chore to make, but it's the only reliably renewable food source in this version as mob spawns are more random and breeding wasn't added yet. Mushroom stew is actually incredibly useful, especially in the nether, as mushrooms can be stacked until crafted into bowls, allowing you to condense a lot of food storage into 3 slots if you're not in active danger. Mushrooms also spread naturally in darkness, making them renewable before the addition of large mushrooms in b1.8.

I'm really nostalgic for old styled Minecraft content. I was a really big fan of Antvenom back in the day. I particularly enjoyed watching him play custom adventure maps. I miss that kind of style. Back then, map makers had a lot less to work with. Modern maps don't have the same kind of creativity, in my opinion. This series really shows that style of creativity with the lack of resources at your disposal, and I really like that. I mean, you're not allowed to use torches at all, so you have to use other more creative solutions like the lava pillars and the glass-glowstone combination. You don't see things like that anymore.

This really reminds me of a simpler time when Minecraft youtube content (and Minecraft itself) was less over-produced and it was just about enjoying the cozy of the game and building cool things with only a few blocks. Stuff like Antvenom's peaceful world, or the Mindcrack server. I'm glad I've been watching enough beta content for this to show up in my recommended and enough challenge content to click on it. Honestly, it kind of makes me want to start playing beta and chronicling it myself, even though I don't think I have the time to do much let's-playing. Here's to a successful series filled with good vibes, lots of adventures, and all the fancy lava and glowstone-glass lighting we could want!
