Yeah there might no trees left but u can easily just regrow them like no problem so as long as he replants the trees there will be infinite trees out there around him .

this is not underground base mate, still surface... .real underground tunnelers make base at around y level 1-8 or at least negative now in 18.1, if your base dont have deepslate boundaries then its not underground enough
