Minelab Equinox 800: How Much F2 Can You Use Before Losing Targets?

I've been getting requests to do more Equinox videos and someone suggested looking at F2 to determine how much F2 can you use before you begin to lose targets. We are not talking about FE (Iron Bias). I've set this test up using the factory defaults but we are only focusing on F2 in this video. I'll walk through Park1, Park 2, Field 1and Field 2. If you like watching paint dry this video is for you as it will be a long one. Consider yourself warned LOL.

Good test. I don’t have problems usually hearing iron. I keep iron bias FE and F2 at zero. I tend to use Field 2 on land unless it has very benign soil. Field 2 was deepest in my tests. If it gets too chirpy I go to beach 2 on land. Park 1 is deepest in air tests but in real soil, Field 2 is usually is deepest unless on soft dry sand or soil with low mineralisation. The Nox does not have trouble with air as some say but when soil has been ploughed if there are chunks of soil rather than fine tilth it can give lots of chirping as it senses each chunk of soil/clay. The Nox will go straight through most shingle without a problem but objects will fall very deep in deep large shingle. I would use FE 2-4 on soft sand with bottle caps and in trashy parks. And maybe F2 2-4 if a lot of bottle caps. I find the Nox to be the best machine if you want to pull every target out of an area and in smaller areas I use the 10x5 Coiltek coil with really good effect. If I find a good small area on a beach or rock pools I use the small coil there. I use my Deus 1 on ploughed mostly full tones because it is so light and a great machine. But the Nox goes on the ploughed too when I find a good area. The Nox is a great beach machine. Nox for gardens, beaches and areas where I want to pull everything out. Deus 1 for fast coverage and lightness like on massive ploughed fields where depth is not needed or for fast coverage in well used grassed areas. The Deus 1 does find gold quite well too. However the Deus can’t handle some soils so that is why I take the Nox. The Deus 1 is light and fast The Nox is heavier and slower but the best for finding everything.

Great video, I have set up my Equinox 800 with your suggestions and I can say for certain that it has helped in the trashy parks that I have been blessed with!

Very nice demonstration! I always ignore the fe/f2 button but now I will try to make sure it is set lower than stock setting. I rarely find war nickels and have never found a Merc or V nickel. Maybe with these adjustments, that will change things!

You just might. Keep in mind my tests are from my ground conditions so things can always be different depending where you are.

Yep it was also recorded during the same time as the last one that didn't have numbers so yes I didn't get the numbers. But the numbers aren't important here for the test. Sorry. The new vides I have ready to go will have the numbers.

I did an air test with a bottle cap.The fe2 was on 6 with all iron on and the bottle cap showed -3-4 but with fe2 on 0 and all iron on the bottle cap came up as solid 14-15. My conclusion is fe 2 has to be used with all iron mode on.

There is F2 in beach modes. That’s all o hunt. I do appreciate your video it was very informative. Please do the F2 and beat settings with bottle caps. I run my F2 on two up to four and then have good success

Does anyone know if all the updates to this system have been done when purchasing the NOX today? It’s coming down between the NOX and Deus.

It will probably depend on who you get if from. If you reach out to my friends from Fort Bedford they will update it for you prior to shipping.

@@MentalMetal Yeah, it would be the XP for me. From what I can tell it’s just a step up from the 800 IMO. Even if I had to send coil,control box and ear phones back every 6 months to have them updated. I don’t think the learning curve is any greater on XP than the 800.

What’s the use case for even using F2 when it knocks out the signals you WANT to hear?

I think the point was showing where you lose targets. Most use F2 to eliminate bottle caps.

Setting FE to Zero as a (precaution) has no bearing on F2's function. Plus F2 is suggested to be ran in ALL METAL MODE.

Thank you. You are correct but if I didn't set it to zero I would have had someone commented and wondered what the FE setting was. Also, they key word is "suggested" :-) Not everyone enjoys hunting in all metal mode. The take away here is where you start to lose targets whether you are in all metal mode or not. In my soil conditions F2 at 4 is the highest I would go in "my" soil. Hope that clears things up. Thanks again.
