But few venture to the source of these gems, located deep in the Andes Mountains. Veteran mineral dealer Thomas Nagin leads viewers over treacherous mountain roads to explore two of the country’s most famous mines. Then it’s back to the big city to hunt for emeralds in the world’s largest emerald district.

it is only in a fairly small area of Colombia where the top quality emeralds are found. the region of Muzo and Cosquez and la Pita where the dark shale with veins of calcite are located in which the emeralds have grown.

Ahhh, this is great! I just acquired a Colombian Blade of Light Quartz Crystal from Santander and thought I’d do some research into this area to see where my beauty of a crystal came from, and I landed here. This is very interesting and I thank you for your work and bringing this to life for those of us that can’t travel to these amazing places! 😊
