Welcome back to Aurora Tech channel. Last year, I reviewed the Magician X, which is a pretty nice mid-range 3D printer that cost just around $300. Today, I will review the big brother of the Magician series, the Magician Pro. This is a very large printer, and if you consider the Ender-3 to be a standard size and the CR-10 to be a large size, then this Magician Pro would be an extra-large size.
The print volume is 400x400x400, which is about 78% larger than the CR10 series. It comes with pretty good hardware and it has all the features you can expect from a new generation 3D printer, including a dual Z-axis, a BMG style direct drive extruder, and a V6 style hotend. There is also a strain gauge auto bed leveling sensor, a 32-bit board with a faster Cortex M4 processor, silent stepper drivers on all axes, a color touch screen, belt tensioners, and a filament sensor. The hardware is pretty similar to the Magician X, as it’s a bump-up version, and it also came with 2 extra aluminum extrusions to support the 400mm tall gantry and a one-piece metal base to make the frame more sturdy.

So I bought this printer around a year ago after watching this review. I'd say you hit the nail on the head with your analysis of this machine! Overall, i love this beast. Its finishing up a 110 hour long print with a .6mm nozzle as I type this, and it had finished a 120 hour print before I started this one. Some further notes for those who might want one; 1. the filament runout detection works but I suggest not using it if avoidable. When the filament DOES run out it works as expected, however the end of the filament will be buried in the extruder. you then have to fully open the tension lever and get a pair of tweezers or needle nose plyers in there to extract the remaining filament. Just pushing the new stuff through sometimes works but not always as the filament tends to get jammed between the extruder gears and extruder body. Cutting a taper helps, but its easier to just swap it just before it runs out. 2. the ONLY failure i've had of the machine is again, the filament runout detector. The switch has a plastic roller on it which is fine for a while, but slightly abrasive filament will wear a groove in it. this groove then trips the detection. With no way to bypass that mid print, I lost 40 hours of printing time once. This can be fixed with just adding a better switch in there, I've had no issues since I did so. Overall, i rate the machine 5 stars still. I love it! The massive build volume just cant be replaced and its really a feature packed machine for the cost. Overall, it was a great purchase!

I have received my magicianpro two weeks ago. It really is a very good machine.Its wide construction platform makes it possible to carry out very large projects.The Leveling system is perfect, very easy, one touch is enough and it is very precise.This is a printer that does a great job out of the box.I am very happy with mine.

Getting a large volume printer at this price without needing to mod it is just awesome. I fun multiday prints on this machine and have not had any issues. If you do get any stringing, simply reduce your hotend temp.

Another great video! A note: as Teaching Tech points out, these machines can be very dangerous. I notice you've used a laser tent and ventilation which is very wise and I'm sure you're fully aware of how to run a laser engraver safely, but the audience may not understand the importance of those safety precautions. I would recommend including a strong warning on open frame laser engraver reviews to use an enclosure and ventilation to block stray laser reflections, to never run engravers unattended to mitigate fire risks, to keep children and pets away from the engraver, and to be very careful with materials as some can produce toxic fumes when heated. Keep up the great work!

Have you considered doing a video or series on how you tweak your slicer or things on the printer to get better prints? Nice review, as always. For a printer this size, a v6 hotend seems a bit underdimensioned. A high flow hotend to keep the printing time acceptable, seems more apropiate. On the other hand with a Bondtech CHT nozzle you might go high flow (and therefore to a higher speed) with just a little extra money. As the printbed is quite heavy, ringing might be a problem on higher speed. I think this printer might be a good candidate for Klipper and Input Shaping. For the size: I still have not assembled my Jennyprinter 650 (65*65*65cm³ build volume, 95*95*105cm³ outer dimensions). Also 35*35 (big voron 2.4) seems quite common nowerdays. So I would call the Maginda pro an ultra big bedslinger (actually such a big y-moving bed seems a bit insane), but as a fdm-printer in genaral I would call it just "big", not ultra-big.

Your review does address the major issue with a 'large' printer: it is SOOOOO slow. You understand this issue and changed to a larger nozzle but this should have a Volcano type heater/extruder to really take advantage of the large format for large prints and get realistic print times. My 3D printers: An A8 and a Volcano heater/extruder large format (semi custom). One must wonder what will be the real marketplace for this printer in light of the Bambu Labs versions (assuming they make it pass kickstarter). Yes, it is much cheaper.

Nice review! I have to wonder how heavy that bed is though with such a huge glass bed. Must take some torque to shift that back and forth quickly!

Very good review It would be nice to see if a larger print with sat .2 layer height will give good fine detail for model production. Say the size would be 300 x150 x 130mm. This would allow modelers to produce fine door handles and hinge details, rivet and bolt details. Not all 3D uses need large volume nozzle flow many would like great detail ability from their printers.

Agreed. For that matter even smaller printers benefit from high detail test prints, but I find it extra important on the bigger printers. Knowing up front whether or not you are going to want or need to upgrade the stock filament cooling right away is important info, at least for me.

I prefer the 12864 screen as it is easy to add more Marlin commands to the firmware and you have more or less full control of the machine, my printers that dont have the 12864 are on Octoprint so I use a combination of plugins and G-code commands sent via its terminal

They use optical z switches as a safe z home where it is homing just above where the nozzle touches the bed and then goes down so it doesn't bend the strain gauge if it isn't plugged in or isn't working correctly and just drives the head into the bed

Any chance you're planning to have a look at the Anycubic Kobra? I've just got mine about 4 days ago just to see if all the glowing reviews were right and I think it can't be beat for the money. As I've been active on the fb groups I can see it's being outshined by it's bigger sibblings (Vyper/Kobra Max). Besides it not including a filament runout sensor (which should be standard these days and I know you'll agree) and a bit fiddly Cura setup (a few ppl are having trouble setting this up) I thinks this is the new S1 for a fair change less. Lovely work as always!

How do you think this printer compares to the Bambu X1? I'm in the Kickstarter for the Bambu but am having buyers remorse after watching 3d Printer nerds review and all the troubles he had with the machine? Obviously the X1 is twice the price. Is the X1 still your favorite printer in the sub $1500 price range assuming they get all the glitches out? .

I've got the Magician X and it has one major flaw, the power cable connection to the hotbed is too firm and is easy to break, also the "S" motherboard doesn't seem to work with Octoprint.. Nice machine otherwise. Thanks for the review.

Can you share the Chrysler Building file. I have a Train Layout and my Wife's side is New York City I i would dearly like to have that building in among the other Manhattan buildings if you could share it. This printer looks very impressive, I see a rugged design and all the things I added to my Creality 10S Pro. I don't have a CR10 max, it's larger and costs almost $1000. I think for $549, this Magician Pro it's pretty good and large enough for me.

Good review as always! But power consumption shouldn’t be only a question of cost. We all have to take care of our environmental footprint. I personally stopped printing gimmicks.
