All my cylinders were misfiring on start up and no mechanic could figure out what was wrong with my car ,so I just started swapping parts out lol.It finally came out to be my high fuel pressure pump in my 2009 Mini Cooper s. It’s been running good ever since .No more misfires and struggling to start.

I got this tip from Scotty K's YT channel, but to check for a bad coil, simply swap the bad coil with another cylinder that's not triggering an error. If the 'Misfire Code' moves to the new cylinder then you know you have a bad coil easy replacement; this is assuming you have a basic OBDI code reader. If the code doesn't move then you can probably rule out the coil as being the problem, and check for oil in the cylinder, a bad spark plug, bad cable, or other problems with the gasket or valve. Visual inspection with an engine borescope can save you a look of time/money also.

Thank you for that. I'm buying a 2008 Mini Cooper with the Check engine light on code saying misfiring. I am glad to hear about all this problems that can result in the misfiring.

Yeah check all vaccum pipes it’s a start scan the scan for codes

I have p0302 code changed spark plugs cylinder and coils. There was oil where spark plugs are located. Is that be? New to cars

That oil not suppose to be there u have bad valve cover gasket replace it complet with spark plug bore grommets

Hi, I have a misfire on cylinder 3. it's the only one. I changed all the ignition coils and spark plugs. I cleared the codes. Prior to the change, the misfires were on cylinders 1 and 3. After replacement, the misfire on cylinder 3 returned. Is it possible that it is the fuel injector? if so, should I change all. 2013 Mini Cooper Clubman S, 141,000 miles. Any advice is appreciated. thanks

Before ruling out injectors u need to check if the spark plug is good and there shouldn’t be any oil on the spark plug

Thank you for responding. Yes, all spark plugs were replaced. The spark plug in cylinder 3 did not have any oil.

@@kevinkirchner4472 yes, I had replaced the coils when I first bought the car. Apparantly, the on cylinder 3 was faulty and failed. It sent a surge to the CPU. This was beyond my knowledge. A mechanic removed the CPU gave instructions on where to send it to have it repaired. The only repaired the part corresponding to cylinder 3. Me being proactive was my downfall. There nothing wrong with the ones on the car. I hope this is somewhat helpful.

would my air filter cover affect anything with idling? because my mini doesn't idle at a certain rpm all the time, it goes low rp then normal rpm and i currently have zip ties to keep the air filter cover on

Mini r56 with n18 engine. Reporting P0302, 2efe, 2f00, 2ee2, 2ee9. I can see in diagnostics most of the misfires are on cylinder 2 and maybe few on other cylinders. This only happens first time in the morning when starting, after that it's ok. I've changed sparkplugs and rotated coils but it's still reporting cylinder 2 misfire. I've tried injector cleaning additive in the fuel tank and after full fuel tank problem is still here. I've logged diagnostics live data for current and desired fuel pressure and both are showing the same values iaround 5150kPa when idling so I don't think it's HPFP. Long term and short term fuel trims are 2-6 when cold and -2 to -5 once the engine is warm. Any advice on what next I could do is appreciated.

U have to check for vaccum leaks. Also check if air injection pump works … do smoke test for vaccum leaks

@@RBTheMechanic What's air injection pump? On the side note, rubber pipe that goes from air filter housing to the inlet of turbo was cracked and previous owner glued the crack. Can that be the cause of the issue because more air is getting than MAF sensor is measuring? I would expect lean code to show up in the diagnostics.

@@nucleus42 these cars have air pump that comes on when u first start the car and it rams in air on start up usully it also cause this type of issue

For others that have similar issue as mine here is an update. So the diagnostics misfire counter previously report over 150 misfires on cylinder 2 when starting cold and none when engine is warmed up. I've put new fuel in the car from different petrol station and codes are gone. Now I can see around 30 misfire on cold start but there is no check-engine light.

Thanks man. Going through the checks with a misfire. Plugs good, coils replaced, new gas cap. The misfire code is for cylinder three. My ship replaced the friction wheel and drive belt. Much better however a week later I’ve lost boost and it has a rough idle. Exhaust vibration. Any ideas? Injector, cylinder head? Thanks so much for the great videos!!!

My mini has low pressure on engine but code was misfire on cylinder 3 my mechanic said I need a new engine. Does that make sense?

Before replacing engine. U would replace spark plug and pcv valve. Some times it would not have spark and the gas will clean up the cylinder walls and it will show no compressor so try the tune up and coil for that cylinder and u can always use the parts for new engine if it comes to replacing the engine

Hi, I have a problem with my Mini Cooper s r56 not start. The mini was on taking it out of the garage when it suddenly turned off. The first Scanner have these codes: 2781 2775 2D52 *2DCA* 275F 272F I changed 4 spark plugs, 4 coils, the Camshaft Position Sensor and a new battery. But it did not turn on, now it is giving these codes: 005E31 009314 *00A0B4* 00932D 009CB5 I deleted them and it only gives me this code: ( A0B4 ) The mini starter good but not start. I try the new battery and it says it's ok, but when I test the battery with the terminals mounted on the Mini Cooper it says it's bad I don’t now why. I also reset the new battery in the mini system with the scanner but nothing. ( A0B4 )

Those codes I don’t have data on but u might need to try jump starting first see what it dose and then check if it got spark fuel and compression

@@RBTheMechanic Hi sir, I just picked up my car from the shop. They replaced the cover gasket $350, spark plugs... The total “repair” $1,000. After driving it for 20min the misfire continued (worse then before) the car has no power. I took it back immediately... now they are saying there is oil going into one of the new spark plug . After they looked at it again they are saying they might be a crack on the gasket from the bottom and need to take everything apart. Does this sound right ?

@@sergioespinosa6267 they should had noticed that when they took out the old plugs... when oil leaks in to plugs it will misfire ... well I think they ignored the oil leak to begin with how much are they charging for this job now?

Below is a copy of my receipt. $319 Valve Cover $40 Gasket Cover $150 LS33-815341(idk what this is) $80 Spark Plugs $20 Air Filter $18 Cable Filter $30 Oil $300 Labor

This is misfire 101 info based on any engine built since fuel injection and even before that with carbs. Doesn't help why so many Mini engines have unexplainable misfires.

@@hjohnhome1417 some people use smoke machine some use spray as engine runs they spray around the pipes and if it sucks it in the engine will reve high and I will know the area the leak is at

UM.....did the CODE specify...electronic ignition or electronic fuel or......or....or...mechanical misfire...TOO LOW or LEAKED compression causing CODE to LIMP OFF the coil or Fuel....aka......LIMP mode....not because of Injector or coil but........mechanical misfire or what is known as......LOW compression or LEAKOUT....factoring in...OIL pressure to Cam vanos AND if equipped CAM adjust Motor solenoid or spiral cam adjust gear malfunction...vanos also must have fresh correct viscosity...and ONE WAY vanos check valves must be...working or renewed........IF I had...a..COMPUTER ON BOARD...X RAY and THERMAL scan Capability for easier diagnosis and code TRANSCRIBER...I would be living in the YEAR 2050...R.KO.

Those damn Mini's are always chasing parts. I've had (2) 2012 vintage S's that gave the stupid "half engine power" light come on. Both were corrected by new coil overs. DON'T buy these from Amazon or eBay. They are knock offs. Bosch brand has been consistent and they're only $20 off RockAuto. I have spares in my glovebox."Just in case". Another thing - it's so GD random - until it's NOT. I clocked my "self healing" N18 at about 45 miles till it happened sequentially. Maybe heat? Maybe a Mini "design feature" ? Whatever.....love em but hate em - I have 5 in driveway, and have owned 11. The NON-S seems more reliable.
