Outstanding Video! I plan on visiting their store to support Keith! I just went through an install for the first time and here's what I did a bit different: 1) 2:15 - Plastic Card / gasket removal - when running the plastic card along the gasket - there was clearly an area where you could "push" the card through. At that point - I saw what I thought was the ends but not the perforations. To see the perforations - lever the card towards you a few times - you'll see a dotted horizontal line in the gutter. 2) 4:30 - Install Rack into Slots - I loosened all the allen bolts (aka 6:15) first so I was only working on the foot and not the whole bar. I didn't use the tool to "push" the rack into the gutter gap. I found the palm of my hand created more force and control. 3) 4:45 - Tighten the Bolts - I did use the leverage tool while turning the bolt. After tightening all the Bolts - I tightened all the Allen Bolts (aka 7:10). Great Video - I read descriptions before - but seeing the process allowed me to push past any doubts I had.

This a a very good primer on how to do this, but it misses a couple of issues. One, that tabs on the bottom of the rack (that insert into the car) are wider than that slot, so it can be a bear to get one side in and then the other. I found the best tool for this job was not the wonky one they supply, but a rubber mallet! I got one side in, hit the mount to slide it fully left (or right) then wanged the over side and bingo, it was in. One other note that had me confused initially. The perforations you'll need to find and then remove, are on the VERTICAL part of the gutter seal, not down on the bottom as this seems to indicate. I had almost given up, when I checked the Mini rack manual, which made this clearer. I hope my experiences might help some other poor soul!

Never mind! I got the locks out. Inserting the key and a channel lock did the trick.

Thanks for the video walk through, just got mine delivered today. The instructions that Mini provides with the racks are all over the place, they made a mess of it. I expected better from Zee Germans.

How can I loosen the clamping plates? Mine are stuck in uninstalled/open position on the front bar. In the rear bar I can move them from open to closed with my bare hands.

Great video, so much easier to watch than to try to decipher written instructions. An experience to add ... I had trouble getting one of the brackets to pop in so I loosened the allen bolts to give a bit of flex. However, be very careful because if you do much more than a turn you risk having the bolt come completely out (which happened to me). Then you've got a big headache putting the bolt back on. I was able to get it back on quicker than I thought by using the tweezers to hold the inside "nut" but it was not easy.

After Pressing the racks mounting clips into position on my R55, the racks mounting clips have spread apart wider than the diameter of the collar nut. While tightening the nut it doesn't engage the clips, but goes in between the two clips and therfore securing nothing. How do I draw the clips together to engage the collar nut?

one question when Installing. I have an r56 2013 hardtop and when Installing the roof rack, I noticed that the area where the rack protects the paint, it does not make contact with the roof. is that normal or is it not in place yet
