There is a small tear in the driver's seat on my 1996 4WD Hijet. I think I'll remove the upholstery, disassemble it and use the pieces as templates to make new gray faux leather seats. I can get my wife to use her new heavy duty sewing machine. It won't look as nice as new factory seats, but I hope it'll be a bit nicer than seat covers. I have a Hijet Restoration thread on the Mini Truck Talk forum if you're interested. Like you, I'm making minor upgrades, repairs and doing some neglected maintenance. I'm making some amateurish videos but I haven't uploaded anything to my Hijet Hijinks channel yet. I bought the Hijet on 8SEP22 and it arrived in the US on 8DEC22. That was a long three months! The clutch was shot and I had to winch it onto the trailer at the marine terminal. I ordered clutch replacement parts from Japan and almost a month later, they're hopefully almost ready to ship. I wanted the Hijet as a fall project but the two month shipping delay means I'm working on it in the winter as the weather allows. I used my 3D CAD program to design replacement door lock knobs last night. It's time to print them on my resin 3D printer this afternoon. They should look like injection molded parts, and hopefully work like injection molded parts.

If you get tired of the seat covers you should consider unmounting the seats again and taking them to an upholstery shop. On my first hijet I paid $150 for both seats and headrests to be upholstered with some heavy duty left over fabric.

I thought about this very thing yesterday. My friend's dad runs his own upholstery shop. It crossed my mind Indeed.

@@bigsonny33 Yep. I just want something on them to keep me comfortable while I sit. I won't put too much into this ride other than what you see in this video, head unit, missing pieces and eventually paint. No lift or bigger tires for me.

how far does the seat move forward? i just imported one, and it’s in transit but i didn’t take into consideration my height, 5’0.

I'm 6"1' and I fit well in this Hijet. You will be perfectly fine at 5'0". I think I showed in this very video the forward movement. That scene is exactly how far it goes forward and back. I know you will love your new truck Jasmine! Big ups to you for not being scared and importing it from the land of the rising sun. More videos to come!
