Peter I had exactly same car 2 weeks ago mine was the headlight were not switching off ( but I was lucky enough took the wiring off after putting it back it worked perfectly ) everything was working, I got me thinking for a minute but yea seems common issue I would imagine 👍 keep it up nice one

I tried that Evan but unfortunately it didn’t work for me, but some crazy sh-t to happen if a car just came in for a battery or something small 🤔 Aw I’m sorry but your car won’t be ready for a week & is going to cost an extra €200 😂😂

Brilliant. I’m same on 1212 mini cabriolet. Also R56. Only back windows and half roof back seam work and digital climate. I have headlights out fault too displayed with headlights permanently on. No hazards too. All same same to yours.

Thanks for video, 1st time visitor here looking for why my dips/lights are on, but indicators/windows off. Not only have you explained, but also shown how to refit mended part. Only downside is I'm in East Anglia, a long way from your software repairers. Hopefully I can find a good one near me, thanks again for clear demo. Turns out BMW know this is an issue but will only mend it on cars under 10 years old, just like the number plate/boot lock, which used to have a £15 microswitch repair, until BMW decided to make it a sealed unit for £100+. Shan't be buying another BMW. Thanks again. In my case, we had a thunderstorm, and I think the lightning very close by caused this issue, as my battery is fine and hasn't been touched since I've had the car.

Brilliant to have you along for some automotive hints & tips. I glad it helped somewhat and hopefully you will find someone close by that can carry out the repair. It usually only happens with a loss of battery power, pretty awesome that the lightning affected it. But that is a voltage surge which I’m sure would cause the same effect. Thanks again for watching & commenting 🙏🙏

Thanks for the video. I am having the same problem and thought it had to be something like this causing the problem. I have an appointment with my mechanic in a couple of days so will be able to give him a heads up.

@@kennedysgarage3281 Thanks for the update. I had my car in today and yes it is confirmed there is a problem with the FRM. Similar to yourself my mechanic cannot fix it in house but he found a local place where we can ship the FRM and then will fix it and ship it back. Unfortunately it was late in the day so that will have to wait until Monday as the other shop is only open Monday to Friday. This is in the Toronto, Canada area. Once again, thanks for the video, gave me a lot of knowledge to be able to work better with my mechanic and helped in the discussion of options.

Was watching to see if you were going to reset yourself. They fail like that all the times, had one failed on a 09. Just stuck another one in the car and it worked. What the guys do from my understanding is recover the software and load it back onto the module to fix that problem as long as the module isn’t burnt.

Hi Denzel, unfortunately I wasn’t able to do it myself. But I did watch a good video from LM autos that did re install the software coding into it. It seems quite simple but something I wouldn’t think I could do, maybe someday 🤔🤞👍

When pricing this job I gave a €500 contingency, €2000 best case with a top of €2500. Isn’t it a mad trade that general public would think that they are being told lies & all us trade lads want is to figure out what the heck is going on after an engine change 🤔🙂

Thanks for that my R53 Cooper S had a battery change - made the simple mistake of putting the NEG terminal on first...POS lead sprung up and touched the body... result was it effed my FCU up , no windows, indicators and all brake lights stayed on even with the key out!... Small mistake means big bucks!

Crazy...I put positive on first then negative... On a dead battery with a 2amp charger...fried the module as well

Good vid solid video. Did it end up coded to vehicle. 102 euro not terrible. I always worry sending off it’ll get lost broken post.

@@kennedysgarage3281 so I do have copper compounds water ingress. Should I send it off for repair an Ecu repairer. I don’t think it is just flash it if copper compounds found board ???? Cheers

Hey man I have a 2009 base module Mini Cooper coupe. Sometimes when I turn off the car the windows including the sun roof will go down. And the locks will unlock and lock. When it comes to ordering a new one how do I go about coding or programming it if that’s what’s needed when getting a new one. And my brake,engine,seatbelt light are all on as well I believe this is due to the footwell module as well.

Unfortunately Aidan I think your vehicle needs to be diagnosed professionally, just to prove beyond a doubt it is the footwell module. Recoding/ programming is the process to take as it isn’t too expensive or difficult if that is the path you take 🤷🏼‍♂️👍👍👍

Hi from Mexico, I’m having kinda the same problem, i have an F56, so they’ll have to reflash the programming of that module?

I’m not exactly sure what they done to my module in order to fix it, but it was repaired quite fast ( around 24 hrs ) so yes possibly just reflash the programming as mentioned. It only cost around €120 so not that big of an issue if you can get it done close by 👍

Thanks for the video. My granddaughter has a countryman Cooper S. The right side indictors have gone off. The left side works as normal and so do the 4 ways. Can you offer any path forward how to fix or diagnose. Thank you.

@@kennedysgarage3281 Thanks for the reply. No alls good except for the one side indicators. She recently had an alternator replaced, along with a water pump and belts and new tires. All was good and then, in an instant, these go out. Poor kids only 16, her first car and it’s disheartening for her. Been in the shop more time than on the road. I’ve tried talking with her parents to part exchange if for another brand. So many horror stories being uncovered by us as we begin this journey. We want her to feel safe that this car won’t regularly breakdown and bankrupt her with constant repairs.

They are not interchangeable unfortunately & are vehicle coded ☹️

I'm having trouble locating a problem with my 2004 r53, left side signal and brake light doesn't work, right side signal and brake light works and haven't had any other electrical fault, any suggestions?

Has your battery gone flat or been disconnected/ replaced recently 🤔 If the answer is yes it will more than likely be this module 😬😬

I actually do not know Andrew, but if the footwell/body control module fails you should have a lot of items not working??

Hi Kenny..I just picked up my Mini from the shop to get 3 oil leaks fixed..they power washed the oil built up..Driving home I noticed the blinkers not working..the windows not working..the Brakes Not working & the flashers Not working!! Omg. How much is that module in American dollar ?? Please Help !!

I believe the euro & dollar are very similar in value. So it should cost anymore than $250 parts & labour 🤞🤞

I thought a few wires had been pinched when fitting a front panel or some block connectors on wrong, because the lad doing it thought all was ok before he refitted the front. I have never come across this before but it is one to watch out for. Stupid cars 🙂👍

So, this was just replacement that corrected it. There is no reset for it, correct?

When / if your battery goes flat or is disconnected, seemingly the footwell module/body control module looses it’s software/programming. For me the I had to send away the module to get the software re-installed. This was not a procedure that I was able to do, if that makes sense??

Did you guys found a solution.I just bought a car form auction and the battery was completely drained. I recharged it everything works except the front windows and the blinkers ( countryman 2011)

The only solution I have found is to send the footwell module away to be recoded. A Google search should find someone in your locality 👍

Yes, it controls quite a lot of things. Especially if your battery has gone flat recently

I just worked on a mini, the right side turn signal marker light, and the rear turn signal light we’re not working. I went to this control module. There was a broken wire and the module was bad. On a sidenote, your steering wheel is on the incorrect side

Another great and interesting video, thanks Peter. There's a good video on Vanos troubleshooting by DiagnoseDan kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i6qlp6Wj3ai1aYU.html turned out the shop that originally did the work had got the connectors swapped over for the Vanos control valves.

Yes a very good & informative video that but my vanos is turned out to be just down to resets, which I could do on the Mehle scanner but was not available on the Snap on. I might do a fast little video on the procedure tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up though 🙏👍

I am unable to diagnose it without seeing the vehicle, but it does sound like the FRM module lost its coding 😬😬

@@kennedysgarage3281 Greetings, I'm from Indonesia, I diagnosed the problem using the X Tools scanner and it turns out that the problem is the same as the code you showed in the video, which is exactly the same as the results of my scanner

Unfortunately I cannot say, with it being only the electric windows I would say it isn’t the module. You will need to get someone to look at them just to be sure it isn’t just a fuse or relay ☹️👍

Have this exact same problem. Identical symptoms. Is there a way that you are suppose to recconect battery to stop This from happening?

@@turbomarch7275 for us the battery had gone flat before we got the vehicle & this is what caused the module to fail. But I do not know of any method to avoid the happening. I was told that if I opened the bonnet and then locked the bonnet lock again with a screwdriver & locked the car, left the car go into sleep mode. Then disconnected the battery, (negative first )

@@tanglewood777 Locate a wiring diagram just to test for power & ground wires. If good then send it off & get it tested I think 🤔
