Your MINI just got several times faster! Our team has done the impossible and ported the MK4 firmware to the MINI’s modest CPU and smaller RAM. We like to support our machines for many years after launch with regular updates and improvements. We’re pretty sure that with this firmware release, your MINI will feel like a brand new printer. Faster printing with Input Shaper, networking with Prusa Connect, and more!
The alpha firmware is out now: github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firm...
You can also try out the SpeedBenchy (a Benchy sliced with the SpeedBenchy rules in mind), available here: github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firm...

Old printers? It's a buddy board printer! It's very new! I want to see input shaping on the Mk3! (Marlin has input shaping that was written to work on all the 8 bit boards!)

@ElectraFlarefire Sure, but MINI is here for 3 years. I saw sth about IS on 8-bit MCU, but MK3 can be upgraded to MK3.5, which should be easier for integration current solution by Prusa. And to be honest, debugging and developing new features is much easier at 32-bit platform MCU these days.

Tried the same print on my Prusa Mini+ with the new Alpha Firmware. The "Bonkers Benchy" file from Prusa's Github was what I used (there direct gcode). Mine came out okay, but a bit rough. The roughest part was the back and the right side (if you were in the ship) of the hull in the front. Both of these aspects were absent from the views in this video. Notice how the whole video shows a slightly off angle shot, then the end shows only one side, then the video ends. Makes me wonder if they had something to hide or if I am just having trouble replicating their results.

Input shaper on a bed slinger... what happens after some printing hours when there's 1/2 kilo of plastic on the bed? The resonance changes as the print progresses... it won't show on a small benchy. Input shaper is better suited for a CoreXY printer where the tool-head mass remains the same while printing.

Very little. Resonance drift is relative to the Proportional change in Mass. Basically to keep drift low, you either keep the weight constant, or significant enough that the change in weight is rendered insignificant. On which a print Bed has so much mass that its resonance doesn't drift much even if you print a big solid wad of plastic on top of it. If you sacrifice some speed to allow for significant tolerances (mandatory for "universal" settings like this) and/or anticipate the drift in resonance by tracking the amount of material being added. It can be consistent regardless of how much plastic you plop on it. On that i wouldn't say Input shaping is more suitable for CoreXY, but that it is significantly easier. Input Shaper can be effectively used with every style of CNC machine. Be it Cartesian, Mendel, CoreXY, Delta or even Polar. Just takes more work to get it good. But if you can implement IS, you honestly always should.
@hd-be7di
@hd-be7di 8 ай бұрын
@@chielvoswijk9482 You said it yourself "proportional to change in mass" How much do you think an average bedslinger bed and gantry weigh? A lot less than a 1 kilo spool of filament... so it would be off by a factor of 2 if the bed is assumed to weight 500 grams... I wouldn't call that "very little" at least in my case.
@chielvoswijk9482
@chielvoswijk9482 8 ай бұрын
@@hd-be7di I'm trying to keep it simple for sake of a comment, not a lecture. My fault for reducing it too much resulting in loss of accuracy. i guess. An additional factor i skipped is that with a decrease in base frequency. The sensitivity to resonance induced artifacts reduce as well. That at a high-frequency any resonance will be exhibit in the output, while at low the resonance needs a significant amplitude to become apparent. Basically. The heavier the gantry, the less Impact drift will have and the easier it is to compensate. Pretty sure that past half a kilogram plastic it doesn't even matter anymore due to the gantry being so cumbersome any resonance is muffled. Part as to why you kind of need a accelerometer if you want precision with a super lightweight print-head. The lighter, the higher the frequency, the harder it gets to hit the sweet-spot in calibration. Regardless my point still stands. All forms of CNC machines no matter the construction can benefit from the style of PID Regulation that lies at the heart of Input Shaping. Some easier and more drastically than others. There is no sense in discounting input shaping just cause a printer isn't a CoreXY...

Cause the MK3's controller can't handle it. The Mini+, MK4 and XL all have modern 32-bit ARM controllers running at 168Mhz and up with a good amount of memory. While the MK3 is using a 19y old 8-bit AVR controller running at 16Mhz with very little memory. That just isn't remotely enough for Input Shaping. So I flash the Alpha firmware and then I manually turn the print speed up in the mini settings after a print starts?

Hi. You Flash the firmware, load the new profile in Prusa Slicer (menu Configurations > Check for Configuration Updates), and create the Input Shaper gcodes with this profile.
