Naomi reviews the Citadel Subassembly Holders as she determines whether they are worth acquiring for your miniature painting needs. These were developed by Games Workshop for painting mini heads and other bits prior to glueing.

These assembly holders are better than they first appear imo. Whenever I can I always paint the heads of minis separately, so there's that. But when it comes to having to fiddle around with corks, blutack and bits of wire for the assembly, for me, these things win.

Super Glue + Debonder + spike from GW = super duper coolness according to GW. Your best test was at the end, a beautiful summary of this "miracle";)

I'm torn on trying these out myself. While to get all these items isnt cheap compared to going old school with free paint stir sticks for spraying, empty pill bottles for painting handles, and paperclips for those pesky heads and sub assembly's they do offer a tiny bit of organization/method to the madness. Cant decide if its worth it overall.

it's nice that you'll be painting sister exosuits, they're a bit of a pain in the tabards, but the whole line of sisters finally looks correct in terms of female anatomy. How many paintable armor do you have?

Might buy them for a self-defense weapon by the bed. Looks brutal, Khorne would be pleased.

Do you mask the contact points with tape, or do you just make sure the point of contact is where you superglue it to these "sprues"?

The latter :) but if I have to I would mask

Thank you for this walk through!! Bought this on my own for some reason, no freaking clue how to use it until now- should have just a stuck with drilling a hole in the base of the heads and using half a toothpick. Oh well, live and learn!

While I like that its designed to work with the paint stick etc this actually seems like more time and work than im currently spending by sticking a piece to a cocktail stick with a little blu-tak. Ill pass on this. Thanks for showing what these really are so I dont waste my money 😁

all you need for a sub assembly is a blu-tak, chopstick or a wooden skewer and some cork

Umm... so basically you have to glue a head on a little plastic spike, and that's it? No thanks, not diggin' it. I prefer the old method of putty + metal rod. Does not damage the head in any way, is cheaper, and it's not GW.

When they revealed these I was feeling it because with the Black Templars I'm painting the unhelmeted heads seperate from the body but the way they described using them sounded like you would cut off the nub on each winglet after you were done sounding awfully pricey and wasteful.

Buy some bamboo skewers and a few alligator clips. Fasten alligator clips to end of skewers. Voila, a far better tool for holding pieces and no glue needed. Also far cheaper.
