Need company painting your minis? Grab your minis and paint with Naomi as she figures out a realistic colour scheme for her Roman legionaries for the new SPQR miniature wargame by Warlord Games
She uses Citadel Contrast paints, Vallejo Metal Colors, Texture paints, and adds a transfer to the shield, and drybrushes here and there for highlighting.

I know this video is a couple of years old, but I'm having something of a bad day and decided to watch some of your painting videos as they help to ease my migraines. I love the scheme you've chosen for your legionaries, not least of all because it was inspired by the Rome TV series. On that subject, did you know that you can get Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo miniatures from Warlord games, and that they fit perfectly with the SPQR Roman legionaries? I've had them on my desk for years, with Pullo all enthusiastically charging into battle, and Vorenus looking perpetually annoyed by how dusty and cluttered my desk is. Roman history is my speciality, so I'm always pleased to see Roman stuff in any form. I really need to paint up my own legionaries when I feel up to it, but in the meantime your videos will doubtless inspire me.

My favourite geeky ladies continue to impress with an inclusive approach to mini choices. You keep it coming, you're doing a fabulous job and, with most groups, I'm embarrassed to admit that I take a fatherly/grandfatherly sense of pride in how our community has grown. I’ve really come to enjoy your videos. I’m taken back to high school and all the days and weeks on end (especially during summer) playing RPGs. I always wanted to use minis and especially wanted to paint them, but we were relatively poor, so getting all the supplies was just out of reach. Thanks for the memories!

Oh wow, that shield is so regal! He's so smol,it must've been so rewarding to paint and get it done so perfectly! :D It's exceptionally refreshing to see some down to earth stoic minis being painted to perfection over the (admittedly fantastic) over the top GW minis! I picked one of my Lord of the Rings minis to paint whilst I watched this :) Thanks Naomi for keeping the variety fresh :D

Roman Shields are usually portrayed as being painted Madder Red but it is theorized that each Cohort of a Legion painted their shield a different color so they could be identified on the battlefield. There have been some fragments of shields from the Imperial period that were green and some that were red.Little is know of the painting of shields from the Roman Republican period which the TV show was based on and the figure you painted is meant to represent. So its anyone's guess.

I had a friend some time ago; he worked for the planning department of Will County, IL. He was happily married, but he was an insomniac, so his entire basement was, painted historical figures, dioramas, and such things (hundreds). So, because he was a client, I bought the french foreign legion (with a Gatling gun?). We would all get together in his, extensive basement for games..I really miss those times..Thank you for being crazy like my friend

13:05 any color goes for shield facings, TBH; pick what you prefer for your unit. While it's not impossible for shields to have been faced with tanned leather, the vast majority of shields were covered with linen or some other textile that was fixed in place with hide glue and often either lacquered or painted. Sometimes even painted brown or beige too. So even if it wasn't covered with rawhide, brown and beige works. But you wouldn't use tanned _leather_ for shield facings though, nor as a primary material for armoring in general. Rawhide is much better and also much cheaper to do the same job, so there's no point in paying extra for an expensive tanning process which makes the material worse for the intended purpose in armoring.

@@aboxofphotons Canadian is not an accent. We are a very large country and each region has a slightly different accent. My guess is that because she lives in Newfoundland now, she was not a native of there. The Newfoundland accent isn't spoken all of the time so she has also spent a portion of her life somewhere else in Canada. There isn't a lot of difference between the regions like there is in the American south or Texas so it's hard to nail down. It could be somewhere in Ontario.
