Krosan explains the differences between the miniDSP 2x4HD and the miniDSP 2x4. Did you know all of them? Minus the optical in and remote sensor they have the same ins and outs that you would find in need of for subwoofer duty. Do you have a miniDSP 2x4 and have you found that good enough for your subwoofer optimization? Or did you go 2x4HD to get more bands of EQ and all the rest that he talks about?

Haha. I know I’ve asked a few versions of this question but I’m mostly curious if anyone has noticed better DYNAMICS when upgrading from the 2 volt to the 4 volt version. It is still on my radar to upgrade but I’d be curious to see if there are any Dirac live videos out there for multiple subwoofers first. Paying to have the software get the impulse / phase perfect versus using rew or an AVR might be worth it.

If the amp your subs are using has an input sensitivity that is lower than the output voltage you will not see benefits from increasing the output voltage because you'll just be clipping the amp. The benefit of having a higher output voltage is that you can run your amps at a lower gain which can lower the noise floor if you have any hum or noise coming through interconnects, ground loops, etc.

@@noahnovotny2100 Thanks for the reply! I kinda figured you’re not missing out on dynamics necessarily plus you can gain the signal by using a Y splitter so there are other things that could be done if signal strength is a concern.

I don't get this time delay thing. Over 7ms? Do you mean that the sub is more than 8 feet different in distance than your main speakers? Because if the subs are the same distance as the mains wouldn't the delay be the same (time to arrive at the listening position)? Sound travels at the same speed through the same air (e.g. in a room) regardless of frequency. This seems to be an issue only if you have your subs either 8 feet closer or farther away than your mains (e.g. LCR). As an example, if your subs and mains are within 8 feet of each other from the main seating position, then 7 ms should be good enough. Also, in the real world, how many subs need more than 5 eq adjustments (that's per sub, correct?)? I'm talking about to get the sub within +/- 3 db from 20-80Hz (arguably the most important range). The AV receiver is going to handle the lowpass crossover at 80Hz anyway. And then adjust the sub volume to match the mains and you are "golden"... assuming you are trying to match them and not just have bass above accuracy. Is there a difference in the actual software (other than the delay and number of eq adjustments) that are important? Anyway, my $.02...
