Not a bad lightweight kit! Couple things, 1) you said you could put the canteen with hot water in your sleeping bag, but I saw no sleeping bag! 2)Your shelter requires trees or something to tie your ridge line to, that's not always available, and it won't stop the wind blowing thru! Also, unless you never roll in your sleep, I would think that the trash bags wouldn't stay underneath you unless there're somehow staked down! Maybe add some grommets to the corners of the trash bags or use a tarp instead! I prefer a tent because it's a very portable self-contained micro shelter that you could tie to the bottom of your backpack, good in any environment! A tarp on top of the tent will increase it's usefulness, especially in trapping heat! Finally, a compass but no map?

This video was just to show you a good base to build your kit around. I’ve slept on trash bags filled with leaves more times than I care to mention and I’ve never had a problem with them moving around. There are ways to use the space blanket without needing any trees for the shelter setup. A sleeping bag is not in this kit because this is a minimal EM kit, not really a camping bag. I don’t really like strapping stuff to the bottom of my pack because it gets ripped up really fast from the sticker bushes. I would prefer a tarp over a tent any day of the week just for versatility’s sake. Thanks for the comment!

Excellent kit. I still think these items are the most efficient way to survive in the woods, with the knowledge on how to use it. In my exotac ripspool i added two small #8 fish hooks in the needle compartment.👍

StrikeForce is an excellent fire kit on its own. But I wrap a little gorilla tape around it, then wrap jute twine around that, and then wrap it all up with a couple of pieces of inner tube. Supercharges the whole thing.

Your black dry bag can also melt snow if you fill it and leave it in the sun. Pack in lightly, because fluff snow melts faster than compact snow ball, and maybe put it in a garbage bag first so you can swap melted out for another pack of fluff.

Great demonstration of an effective “essentials” 10-C’s kit which should go into the woods with you every time you go. The kit is compact and organized well in the dry bag. Easily fits into any bag or pack you choose to carry, or with a strap on the dry bag, it is a standalone kit. Nice job with this video! Warm up and always be SAFE. God Bless - Tennessee Smoky

Just a thought. Consider replacing the tinder in your ferro rod. I had a couple of those foiled tinder's that would not ignite for anything many years back. I called the company and they didnt seem as if they had never heard of a similar issue. Apparently if they are older, have ever had the seal compromised, or for some other reason, they could possibly be less than ideal in some circumstances. They kindly replaced them but that wouldn't be much help had I really needed them. I am not bagging on the company, but I had some trouble with them on one particular occasion.Because of how important tinder is to me, I chose to replace them with a couple cotton balls smeared in vaseline just in case for future references. I personally will not trust my life on any mystery tinder again. Thanks for posting your video.

@@buckeyebushcraft Yes, I am not the kind of "brand" man, but I really like my Filsons (yes, I lost my head and after buying the tan one I bought another in olive). I have the green one more biased on winter time and the tan more on summer time. Tha construction is robust, the materials top notch, they are confortable and, being quite small, oblige me to be disciplined and careful on what I put inside. I am past my mid sixties and surely I would not go very fast nor very far with a 80 l loaded pack on my back... That's a discussion I always have with the lads / instructors in the survival courses: I always enphasize the need of walking 10 or 20 miles with the loads they bring to the courses... the green-horns just bring comodities of a 4 star hotel... that 's not how things work in real life / emergency. If you get stuck on a bridge during an evacuation and have to leave your car you would not manage to jump over the cars for 2 or 2 miles with a 80 pound backpack (at least I would not...) The youngsters must learn to think spartan, small and light, to make the right choices with the right materials... I often see people with 3 knives on their belt of similar size...what for? They eat like a T-rex... I sometimes see them eating meals that would last 3 or 4 days for me... I see in the sites the recomendation of 40 to 60 liters pack for a week-end...I wonder what they would recomend for tha appalachian or pacific trail... But, although I am the "weardo" because of the provocative comments (with the only purpose of making them think) the lads like me comming by at least for the "extras" on good food and wine that I try to bring for the meetings...

Hey I caught this vid while working, I'm going to offer a suggestion. I myself have suffered migraines since a head injury as a kid, and they got much worse after multiple deployments over a 27 year carrier. I was getting at least 2 a week. I started testosterone replacement therapy along with b12, weekly shots. I've not had a migraine in 3 years now. It may possibly help you with yours as well
@buckeyebushcraft
@buckeyebushcraft 2 жыл бұрын
The source of my migraines was eating junk food and being WAY overweight. Since I’ve started eating better, going to the gym and exercising daily, loosing weight has really helped me out. I’ve still got 50 lbs to loose but I hardly ever get a migraine now.
