Күн бұрын

There are many morning routines out there, but here's mine!
1.) Wake up
2.) DON'T check my phone for at least 30 minutes (sometimes I fail at this).
3.) Make my bed
4.) Make coffee or herbal tea / water depending on the day
5.) Do something mindless like go for a walk
6.) Write down the top 7 things I need to do today
7.) Try to do the top 3
I find that that following this routine gives me a calm, productive day!
Let me know in the comments what YOUR routine is! I'm always looking to optimize.

Hey Hampton! Long time fan and lurker, got a question for you and hope to poke into your mind a bit more :) You seem to be a pretty optimistic dude, which is great! My question is, do you ever get to a state where you "run out of" optimism? If so, how do you find yourself replenishing it? I've been trying to be a more optimistic person lately, and it works out most of the time. But every few weeks, I find my optimism "burnt out", and I slowly creep back to my cynical self. And it is really hard for me to pick myself back to the optimistic mindset.
@HybridCalisthenics

This is a great question and I actually filmed something today about maintaining hope and optimism. My optimism levels got unusually low when I was sick last week (both occurrences are very unusual). It's fine to not always be hopeful and excited, but I try to put myself in a situation where I routinely am optimistic, at least several times during the week. The people we hang around and the content we consume seem to REALLY affect this. If the people and media with which you surround yourself is always preaching "doom and gloom," it can be very easy to feel this way too. Hang around people that make you optimistic. If they don't exist, then consume content that makes you optimistic and excited to live life. It's not delusional, as some might tell you. I mean, what's the alternative? Being pessimistic (and calling it "realistic") and doing less in life? Enjoying life less overall? Ain't nobody got time for that. Will post the video this weekend, I think! I hope it helps.

As Zig Ziglar said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing - that’s why we recommend it daily.” I've found that to be very true for me, with motivation, optimism, or even just interests. Whatever I feed flourishes, and whatever I stop feeding can fade quickly. I try to "feed" my positivity with positive quotes, books, and videos (like Hybrid Calisthenics!) on a regular basis.

I’m an introverted person. I need time alone to decompress and reflect, listen to Let’s Read, or just watch a movie by myself. If I don’t get enough of that I will feel mentally exhausted, judgmental, angry, and depressed. My husband is the same way (introverted). I don’t know about the OP’s personality (extrovert vs introvert), but this is what helps me. Also, I’ve had to learn to say “no” and set healthy boundaries. I still struggle with that part. I will start to feel resentful if I say “yes” too much to please others.

@@HybridCalisthenics waiting to watch the optimism video now :) But you're right. I do find myself more optimistic when I watch a lot of youtubers I'm inspired by(like you :)), and I try to be more like them. I find myself burnt out when my own personal shortcomings or "low self-confidence" takes over

This...is so grounded, so reasonable, so simple, so "reachable". And for anxious people prone to overthinking like me, this is soooo much better than a hundred-pages book or a "coach" droning on and on. I am in the middle of a breakup after a breakdown, clinically depressed, unstructured because my ex was the one imposing her routine (and I was passively following along - I know, that where I/we screwed up), and my therapist has been nagging me for weeks to set up a routine and I haven't. But now I will. Because it isn't much. Because it's flexible. Because by saying so little, you leave enough room for me to imagine my own instead of aping someone else's. Or in a few words: where most advice sounds as "you should", yours genuinely sound like "you could".

Wow, that sure is simple! Thanks for sharing, this is refreshing as so many people out there are sharing super elaborate morning routines that according to them are absolutely necessary for success. This just goes to show that each person is different, and in my opinion we would all benefit from doing some exploration to see what works best for ourselves instead of trying to imitate some other person. Of course we can get ideas from others but in the end I think it is best to adapt it to what feels best for us. Have a great day Hampton!!

Hey Hampton, thanks so much for your posts. They always give me so much fuel for my life. I like hearing about how others organize their day or develop their routines. My morning routine has changed, now that I am out of the workaday world, and a bit longer in the tooth than probably most of your readers. Mine tend to change seasonally, or really just as needed, or sometimes for no particular reason at all or if I'm trying to add something new to my life or my mornings. I am an early riser, I like to be up by sunrise or a little before. I give the pets their morning feed, I make myself a warm beverage. I like to sit in the quiet of the morning, journalling my thoughts, anything I remember from my dreams, or leftovers of emotions from the day or two previous. I'll eat a small breakfast. The mindless part for me is the internet, usually news around the world or looking something up I saw and want to find out more about. I filter the news stuff heavily and stay away from the noise and clamor of whatever the outrage of the day is. Then a little meditation, or quiet observation of the wildlife outside. Or maybe start some housework, gardening, or cooking. Then the dog walk; he's an active breed so he gets a pretty good long walk every day. then home to change and work out for an hour or more before having a light lunch and getting into the middle of the day. P.S. I like to make my bed every morning too. But I have a super simple bed too. Fitted sheet, duvet, pillow. Done.

Thank you for emphasizing the importances of sleep and not crazy wake up times like 5AM. (I mean if that time works for someone and they got enough sleep all good). I find this so much healthier and more balanced than so many morning routines, especially like having times just to sort of zone out as I think that is when creativity happens. Mine is pretty basic, I don't make my bed right off as I pull back the sheets and open my window to air things out and then make it a bit later in the day. I try and take a short walk & do a quick and easy mobility type exercise (yoga, dynamic stretching, easy exercise video, anything to get the blood flowing and limbered up a bit), & I try to always start with a tall glass of water as I find it helps wake me up and I am more likely to stay hydrated. I don't do physical lists as I find they don't work for me, but I do mentally go through what I want to accomplish.

The obligatory 'not a morning routine but..' I've been trying to implement a better night routine for myself, which I don't always stick to (didn't last night for example) but the gist is: -gargle with salt water (winter = sore throat season) -floss and brush teeth -read at least 1 page of a book -try to do a push up ( I can do 3 in a row now, never used to be able to!!) -try to sleep at a reasonable time And then when I wake up I make my bed. Thank you for the lovely video Hampton, I'll try out some of the things you said , definitely should stop using my phone so early :) hope you are all well!!

Hey! I've been watching your videos for a while and just wanna say I really love them! I could tell you alot how you helped me, but especially this video alone really gave me inspiration to take my morning routine in different view. I've never thought about doing mindless thing first thing in the morning to let the brain in "neutral mode" and I'll sure implement it and the todolist tip seems very helpful to me, because I think of everything I *should* do, having it impossible to get it done that day and be down at evening thanks for that and for sure it has weaknesses so I will approach it my way. Thanks for being such a motivational force for a lot of people and have a nice day too! (If anyone was interested my IDEAL morning routine is this: -Wake up and make my bed -Brush my teeth and wash my face -Gratitude journal -Make/eat breakfast and make some snacks for whole day -Meditate (with open window helps a lot) -I will sure implement the mindless activity, todolist and i think a little exercise)

Love this, and heavily agree with everything you've listed. I recognize this is a "morning routine" list, but if I may suggest. Skip step 6 and move that to your night/winding down routine. By writing down what you want/need to get done the night before, you start the day already prepared to tackle your to-do list without the stress of forgetting something. I've done this religiously since 2011 and it's worked wonders for my productivity and starting the day in a calm atmosphere. I used to do this on a piece of paper that I'd leave by my bedside; but since have migrated to using Trello where I can create multiple lists such as "today", "next time you visit parents", and even a "when you get a minute" list. Hope this helps!

I am limited in my morning routine as my spouse sleeps later than I do (we work different hours). I get up and work out (run MWF, calisthenics 😉 TTS, rest Sunday), do a quick rinse in the shower (no more than 2 minutes), I get dressed, take my meds, pack food for the day (sometimes breakfast and lunch, sometimes just lunch), and then it's out the door for work or off to start chores!

Part of my morning routine is laying in bed awake for an hour building up the mindset to get up. I really need to cut that step out.

I checked my phone first thing when I woke up, and saw a message from my best friend, this video, and heard rain and birdsong outside my window. Not too bad I think :)

Hi, guys. My morning routine is pretty much the same as Hampton's, especially with not checking my phone for quite some time after I woke up, freshun up, made the bed and even a bit more after that. That would be depending on if it's an important day when I know there is something important I may be contacted for. When in comes to differences, I started doing a new thing around 2 weeks ago. That is after waking up and getting out of the bed, I go to my window, open it and the look into the world for about 30 seconds. The purpose for me covers multiple things. The one I enjoy the most is that by doing it I get the pulse of the world and somehow I connect with it, at the same time I feel it can be looked at as a meditation practice, in which I just admire nature, clouds, the sun, birds, the weather, people moving around and other elements without thinking of anything. I definitely agree that this is much more enjoyable if you live in a quieter area rather than in one with constant traffic, noise and such. Usually after this exercise I make my bed and other stuff. :)

I have the same Alarm! It's quite pleasant to hear but it's starting to give me anxiety! I've changed it to the classic alarm clock. Also, great video!
