In this watercolor demonstration I run through how I create these simple minimalist navy blue abstract watercolor landscapes. I am using Paynes grey but you can use any colour you like. A dark blue such as Indigo blue would also work well.

- Arches cold pressed paper, grain fin (block).
- Winsor and Newton Paynes Grey
- Wide brush and smaller flat brush

I like the tiny amount of bleed that goes under the tape. It keeps it looking original. Handmade. Unlike a print. They are beautiful.

I found it's so much easier to spritz the backs of warped paintings, lay them face-down on paper towels or acid-free paper between cardboard, and weighted down by heavy books overnight, et voilá! My goodness, the time taken to tape and then remove it is way too cumbersome. Or, you could iron the backs when damp.

Yes! Books is easier. Though the tape method can work well if you are trying to flatten lots of art or strapped for space. But yes its a bit more bother! 😊

Does anyone turn their paintings over and run a steamy iron across the back? Straightens the paper out really nicely. Not sure if the heat harms my paintings though. Does not appear so with my eyes but I’m getting older so…

Yes I think people do do this! I have not tried it but I would say that the steam element is important in order to relax the paper fibres before ironing! I have just got my first pair of glasses and can hardly read without them now! 😊

where do you sign these paintings?

Hello, most of the time I put my initials which is AME in pencil fairly small and in the bottom right of the painting. Since this painting has dark blue in that location I would probably put it in the white border even though it would ultimately be covered by a matt. Another option is to sign the back. I hope this helps 😊

@@annamabellaedgley Well you have to be careful……low heat thicker paper helps…..but hey i tired it and it works sometimes

Hola! Lamento no poder encontrar una transcripción del video. Pero los puntos principales son: 1) Mojar el papel completamente 2) Trabajar bastante rápido para que el papel no se seque 3) Comenzar con pintura saturada en la parte inferior 4) Continuar usando agua pura en la parte superior 5) Trabajar siempre a lo largo de la página con el pincel para mantener el efecto horizontal Espero que esto te ayude.
