High cost of living in Nigeria is affecting the purchasing power of many in the country.
With inflation at over 30%, organised labour is asking for a minimum wage of 615,000 naira, a staggering one thousand, nine hundred and fifty percent increase from the current 30,000 naira peg.
However, the Federal government says it can only afford N48,000,a proposal rejected by labour unions who have threatened to down tools and declare a nationwide strike if discussions on the issue are not concluded by May 31, 2024.
Gist Nigeria’s Mercy Frank speaks to experts, labour leaders, and the average Nigerian to weigh in on the debate.

A Minimum wage of 40 Dollars and yet Petrol sold at almost 1Dollar a liter. What kind of monkey sense is that.

Realistically. Minimum wage should be within 80k - 120k. But my fears is that state government workers and other private businesses will not implement this new Minimum wage as they did last time.
