For the short time that we ran per clean out, it wasn’t bad half hour. There were some chunky pieces in there. I suspect it would be a nice clean out if you sat there and ran all day long.

Not that much here in Iowa, too many variables to give you an average. First off you have to have a good location. Then it would depend on what type of equipment you take out there. It’s also going to depend on how much material you move. But you also have to always remember the gold that you can find in Iowa is absolutely tiny. It is not coming from hard rock deposits. It’s been ground up by glaciers and is eroding out of the soil if you’re in locations that have glacial till. The best spots might produce a quarter gram or better. The average spots you walk away with gold that’s unweighable. It’s a good thing I have a full-time job. And this is one of two hobbies that occupies my free time. You might ask yourself if I’m not finding that much gold why waste my time. I do go out of state to mine in different locations. I want to know my equipment even though I’m not finding that much gold here at home. We all figure that if we can find it here in Iowa, we can find it anywhere.

@69mustang07 we do find gold, but it’s nothing to make a living at. It is just that a hobby. Some of us are thinking about vacationing out west to find bigger gold.

That’s funny you have as much or more gold in that state in the rivers and creeks. You need to do some due diligence. You need to start reading up on what glaciers and where they stopped at in Illinois. I’m the researcher for the locations that me and Jeff go to for the most part I do a lot of field research backed up with a lot of book and Internet research. The first thing I would do is I would go to Google and I would type in glacial coverages over Illinois. And I would start searching to see if I could find map programs with glacier coverage overlays. At a minimum you need to find where glacial moraines are located near you and find rivers and creeks that run through that material. Another key term is till. Those are the things that I would be researching this winter for the whole state of Illinois. You would be surprised what you will find once you start checking out, creeks and rivers in these locations, if you have any questions come back and ask, but as far as telling you where I mine in Iowa not happening

Well, there’s a chemical recipe for that. I think it involves fluoride Hydrogen peroxide and dawn dish soap. I got that Recipe somewhere in a folder on my laptop. Give me a day or two and I’ll look for it and if I can find it I’ll send it to you.

Well, I tell you what I got my laptop out but the battery’s dead and I cannot for the life of me. Remember where my plug is. It’s an older laptop is the problem. So I googled a few things and I tell you you’re just gonna have to dig through it because I don’t think there’s really a good solution to dissolving a large quantity of clay. I do recall that. Recipe for clay be gone, has fluoride and hydrogen peroxide as the two chemicals that it takes to dissolve clay added to water. I tried this out probably eight years ago. I think I got one tube of cheap fluoride toothpaste, and one bottle of hydrogen peroxide and mixed it with 1 gallon of water and tried it in a 5 gallon Bucket with some clay material it wasn’t a magical potion. It did not do anything close to what I needed it to do. But if you get on Google and search what dissolves clay, you’re gonna come up with two items, fluoride and hydrogen ions. I don’t think there’s a really good solution to your problem, unfortunately.

@@IowaGoldProspectors Oh, nice! I saw many videos from prospectors in Brazil and they told the same thing: they "skip" the clay. I know the slaves here in the 1700's did that too but they used to stop when the first layer of clay was reached: But the theory says there are more layers of gravel below, another layer pf red though clay and the final rich gravel. I hope this is what I will find underneath. I had a sample where I found 15 small pieces, then when I took a 20 kilogram bag to analyze trying to break the clay... nothing was found, I think the clay took the gold away. That's my experience for the last days...
