*Great little trolling motor **enjoyable.fishing** recommend had it hooked up to my 15 foot old town canoe and it pushed it pretty good with me and my son (220 pounds each).*

Love the four-stroke. Traumatized as a child by Mercury. Suzuki or Yamaha will be a pleasure when it is finally time to get a new one. Especially when it is winter and you can just turn a key.

Yamaha (or maybe Suzuki) will be the next engine on this boat!! I just can’t bring myself to do it while the Mercury is still kicking!! Haha

@@jamesvoutdoors7745 I totally get it. I never get rid of something that works either. I had an expensive failure after nine years with my first Suzuki (that was the only issue. I chose to get a second Suzuki that has served me without any issues for eight years now. I would not blink in getting Yamaha were the price point lower with the same warranty.

Iove your set up. I have the same boat. Could you send some pics of the quick release and how your wires run back to the battery. Much appreciated

Thanks! I’ve had the boat for a long time and don’t ever plan to get rid of it. I’m happy to send pictures, but it doesn’t seem like I have a way to post them here… if you have another way to contact you, I’m happy to send them

Thanks for the review. Very helpful. I’m looking for a trolling motor now. Couple questions. What’s the model? Did you get a graph to go with it? Would you recommend the shop that sold it? Nice hat btw. I live in Christiansburg. 👍
@jamesvoutdoors77454 жыл бұрын
Minn Kota Riptide Ulterra 80 pound thrust. This is a saltwater version, so if you’re staying in freshwater, they have that option as well. Did not get a graph to go with, these things only communicate with Humminbird and I already have a Garmin installed on the boat. Definitely recommend the shop that I used, and their info is in the comment section below the video. GO HOKIES!!

Did you purchase your motor yet?

@@jamesvoutdoors7745 I have the same boat, obviously you can’t through bolt the motor to the front of the whaler because no compartment. I saw another video saying whalers are reinforced and you can just screw it to deck how do you have yours Attached

I have had two motor guides on a 2014 skiff. Both are shot. the 2nd one had less then 10 hours on it. Next one will be either this one or the ghost.

I have the riptide ulterra on my boat it's pretty awesome I haven't trusted it enough to deploy and pick me up from the dock yet I'm scared it will pick that day to give me problems and I will have to swim for the boat

There’s always a chance! Lol just do it when it’s warm out!

There’s zero chance I would trust mine to pilot an unmanned boat.

Hey James, came across your video while researching mounting a trolling motor on my Boston Whaler. I see you removed your front bow rail. I guess that's what I'm gonna have to do also. I'm interested to know what screws were used to secure the mounting base since the under side is not accessible. I looked at the layout for my boat and it shows wood underneath the gelcoat at the front right and left corners. The layout shows 1/2" plywood. That's why I'm interested in the hardware used. also are you using a quick release bracket.
@jamesvoutdoors77453 жыл бұрын
Scott, first off, thanks for subscribing! The install of the trolling motor was done by a company in Suffolk, Virginia. I do have the quick release bracket underneath. I can get a picture if you like. May not show too much, but at least you’ll be able to see the tops of the bolts/screws, might give you some info. In terms of overall cost of each part, the quick release was not that expensive, so I think it is worth doing. As for the bow rail, I hated to have to cut it, but there’s not much of a way around it. I kept the section of rail that was cut out, in case I ever wanted to make some sort of fittings on each side, that would allow for quick reattachment. I’ve had this boat for about 10 years, Whaler makes a great boat.

Also, may be tough to tell, but the wires come from the trolling motor then go up inside the bow rail and run back to the console/seat, where the 2 batteries are located

Thanks for getting back to me, appreciate it. Think I'm going for the Ulterra, love that auto stow and deploy.

I have a Boston Whaler 15’. How did you run the wiring from trolling motor to the battery?
@jamesvoutdoors77452 жыл бұрын
Actually, it runs through the bow rail. Enters the bow rail on front starboard side and then runs toward the back and exits the bow rail beside the side console! Batteries are situated underneath the seat where the driver sits!

Boston whaler makes a great hull. I bought a larger boat as well but have 0 intentions to sell my 150 Sport. That thing has been a high quality fishing machine for me

Can you tell me what button you press for the auto deploy?

Scroll down in the menu to find your motor. Mine says “Ulterra”. When you click that, you should see different functions of the motor. Hit “Deploy” twice
