I don't understand why this is a surprise for anyone. If you want to donate to charity, then donate to a charity directly. It's stupid to rely on a for-profit company to make donations on your behalf.

DON'T ADVERTISE AS A NON PROFIT and it's all good. How hard is that to understand? If coca cola donates a million dollars to a good cause n then advertises as a non profit, you'd lose your mind learning they make billions a year n only donated 1 million of it. It doesn't matter, if I make a billion dollars off a business I'm advertising as a non profit but only donate 1 million, that 1 million is going to help some ppl but part of the big reason I make a billion was because ppl think the business is non profit so they're more willing to spend more money when in fact I/they could be pocketing the rest of it. Imagine if coca cola a giant corporation donates a million dollars n then is like see we're nonprofit buy more coca cola as we then will donate more money to good causes when in fact they donate less the 1% of profits. It's literally fraud no matter how many ppl they help if they are making money of fraudulent claims.

I don't blame them. The state has such restrictions on how you can donate to and what you can donate its a nightmare. That's absolutely fine but don't advertise as a non profit when your in fact profiting n donating whatever you can/want. The whole point is to make sure they aren't scamming through fraudulent claims. Coca cola donates a a lot of money to good causes just like pretty much every other corporation but they don't claim to be non profit for it as that would be ridiculous as they make billions for their shareholders every year. We/the state don't know how much they're making and howuch they're donating.

@@danb6838it’s really unwise to comment like you’re a subject matter expert and end it with “du’h” (leaving aside the idiotic use of an apostrophe in the non-word, but you began your comment with one so I guess it was a fitting end🤦🏾‍♀️). I sincerely doubt you know anything about religious charitable exemptions and how easy it is for a church to both gain 501(c)(3) status and maintain it (that means what records a church is required to provide to show where their funds are going). It’s not remotely a detailed accounting. Here are some categories (with a single, lump sum number provided and no breakdown): building expenses, pay, bereavement, travel, purchases (yes, that’s a legitimate category). We once prosecuted a church that had its status revoked because “purchases” were primarily cosmetic surgery for the minister’s wife, multiple motorcycles for him and his adult sons, trips to Europe for all of their kids, buying and selling crypto on the side (and losing). Forgot to mention I’ve been an attorney in practice for almost 30 years and a great deal of that time has been as a federal prosecutor and judge. Tax exemption status for churches remains one of the biggest swindles on the American people that those being directly exploited stupidly defend while they’re quite literally being robbed by their spiritual leaders. It’s a pathetic case of not seeing the forest for the trees or intentionally wearing blinders. Either way, it’s a highly misused and abused privilege that’s time has long since ended. Once a church reaches a certain income level, the exemption needs to end as the exemption is phased out entirely. But sure, tell us more about “du’h”🙄

A vague we actually gave more still doesn't say what that was. This isn't anything new. We give everything away. Nothing to tax here. Prove it? Well we don't like to write things down. It cramps our style. Just trust us. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

The “STATE” should not be involved in every crevice of our lives. Time to take back our state and “OUR RIGHTS.”

People should be happy to live in a state that is watching out for them. Or do they want to be taken to the cleaners by every Tom Dick and Trump that comes along?

More worried about a small chain than the 5 trillion dollars that moved to the rich. Pathetic propaganda.

So your fine with a business like coca cola donating a million dollars and then advertising as a non profit to buy more coca cola as "all the profits go to charity" to then find out they only donated a million dollars out of the several billions they make a year? That's literally the definition of fraud, are ppl getting dumber? Or are is the majority of everyone a fraud?

OK, on behalf of all of the working stiffs out there, I'll just say FUCK OFF with your $6 drip coffee and $5 glass of milk! These guys are doing what SOOOO many other business owners are doing...subsidizing their write offs with your goodwill! Charity shouldn't require a front to launder money, and it shouldn't come at the cost of gouging customers...then again, if you're really ok with paying $11 for, quite literally, 5-10 cents worth of oats, you've got bigger issues than my opinion will fix. I fucking HATE people some days.
