The thunder sounds like artillery fire and every flash appeared to consist of only one stroke. This was positive lightning, unlike the more common negative lightning. Strong thunderstorms in the upper Midwest develop complex charge structures which can make storms produce a high amount of positive flashes under their cores.
@brennandean4821
@brennandean4821 5 жыл бұрын
How do you expect to be able to count the number of Strokes from lightning strikes on a video you do understand that that's pretty impossible considering the fact that most lightning is faster than the frame rate of most cameras so like what are you talkin about... I mean not to be rude but that's a pretty stupid assumption especially considering the fact that your name is lightning Hunter they just did another video on being able to count the lightning strikes and what they do is they leave the shutter open and it creates a series of flashes that you can count you can't count The Strokes of lightning based upon a video like this it's impossible you're going to miss a lot of information because of exposure and frame rate
@thelightninghunter23
@thelightninghunter23 5 жыл бұрын
@@brennandean4821 The interstroke interval can be very short as you say it is, but in most cases it can be resolved on standard speed video. There is a flash in my channel trailer with an interstroke interval over 300ms-- a camera from the 90s could resolve that. You clearly haven't seen more than a couple lightning videos if you think modern cameras can't reveal the multi stroke nature of lightning flashes.
@brennandean4821
@brennandean4821 5 жыл бұрын
@@thelightninghunter23 again you're confused and I don't mean to be disrespectful but even cameras that are modern and high-speed miss multiple flashes even at high frame rates because of how quickly the lightning can discharge multiple Strokes of the same channel. This is been discussed and well-documented especially in recent explanations and discussions of how lightning works. to catch all of the different discharge Strokes a lot of the time the shutter is left open which gives the person filming the ability to count the different Strokes in the same channel please do better research as this is the most up-to-date research that is out there.

That constant rumbling sound later in the vid has to be the continuous cloud lightning discharges going on overhead that I don't think a lot of people here noticed. It's the shockwaves from every discharge colliding overhead that causes constant rumbling sound like that.

One of the eeriest storms I ever experienced was just like this. The rumbling of the thunder was endless. Scary as hell. The sky was an ugly green/gray color. I also had straight line winds that were like a tornado and just scared me to death. Did a lot of damage in my town. In your video, it almost sounds like bombs dropping and echoing on forever. Your video is incredible. Thanks for sharing!

It was likely a stepped leader which is a visual(bolt) charge of electricity that comes up from the ground buy does not connect to the cloud/main strike that did connect. This happens close to any lightning strike and can come up off any object and sometimes multiple objects. You can actually hear a quick snap during the flash about a half second before the loud thunder if you play it back and listen closely.

emerald green sky. ive seen that a few times in AZ but this one time on sept. 37 2014 it was like in the video. what followed was 100 mph wind gusts mixed with torrential rain, powerful CG lightning bolts crashing ahead of the storm, and leaving downed power poles and uprooting 100 foot tall eucalyptus trees.

Awesome video of positive lightning and the thunder it creates. One way you can tell the difference between negative and positive lightning is the sound. Negative is more crackle and rolling where positive is very quick and sounds like an explosion. There are many in the beginning part of video but towards the end it's easy to tell as the thunder is further away but still has the quick thump to it. Very cool video!

Wanted to add to my previous comment on positive lightning. There is a video that not only gives the sound but also shows what positive lightning looks like (the first bolt you see in the video is an example). You can find the video by typing Mankato Minnesota lightning storm or by the name ArchibaldBiteramous (which will make the search much easier).

T B Storms like in this video would only be common in the later spring through summer up there in Minnesota because of a warmer/humid environment in place. Colder air or fronts usually shut off the instability or energy for these things so they don't happen in the later fall - wintertime up there, like they still can in the southern states.

This reminds me of the September 27, 2014 Phoenix storm.: massive bow echo, green sky, continuous lightning, straight line winds, the hail roar was the scariest thing I've ever heard. Y'all are used to bow echoes and derechos and stuff up there in Minnesota, but they never happen here in the desert. At least, they didn't used to...

What is that creepy crackling sound @4:20? Sounds almost like a static build up. Makes me wonder if you were dangerously close to a potential strike??

I wasn’t actually watching the video I was across the room (wireless earbuds) and it reminded me of the sound of a sparkler. Like the little stick thingys you lite and wave around on 4th of July. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm in Toronto. Every "thunderstorm" here has three faint peals of thunder, that's it. It's really frustrating when you love thunderstorms. ...

It sure sounded like it hit something that could have conducted the lightning to all the electrical appliances in the house, because I've heard that same exact sound when lightning came and hit my motom and could have fried all my appliances had it not been for the surge protector and grounding of everything possible. On another occasion, it struck another building near mine and not only fried all the appliances there but also set fire to the condo on the second floor. The lightning was even strong enough to make my telephone sound like someone was pushing the #5. The scary thing was that the phone was safely in its cradle. The thunder happened right as that happened, so i knew it was close.

actually green sky means hail not rotation and tornadoes the reason you get them a lot with tornadoes is because of the large hail that is up in the storms this is 17 years of storm chasing and training from the US national weather service talkin

Right after the close strike hits look carefully at the house across the street you can see and hear some kind of charge triggered from the strike
@kevinday107
@kevinday107 3 жыл бұрын
Yep that snap right at the moment of the flash. I'm leaning towards a stepped leader bolt coming off of something that was attempting to connect to the main strike. Really cool, but is means that you were in grave danger standing there.

Yes. This kind of storms can produce a tornado, if it doesn't, it brings severe winds (90-110 km/h)

I have several videos in a thunder play list. Many have continual thunder like this, one for almost 20 minutes. It's nothing more than a good strong storm that is having enough lighting within 10-15 miles to keep then thunder bumping..
