By Act 3, you've likely already seen a fair share of murderous lunatics, so with players generally finding Minthara to be an excellent judge of character, this is a nice way to establish Orin as a creditable threat that managed to slip past her radar.

I loved how Orin kept appearing as different people in Act 3. It was a really nice touch. Gave that part of the game a really creepy feeling leading up to the fight.

@@miguelcondadoolivar5149well put it this way. Orin is fucking TERRIFIED of Dark Urge. That’s why she does all the stupid shapeshifting stuff and kidnaps your companion so you don’t just rush straight to her and kill use on the spot.

Dang. It's really disturbing to know how terrified Minthara must be when Orin kidnaps her in Act 3 😦

I've seen a clip of this before, but it's such a beautiful dialogue and pretty rare. Most players save the grove and kill Minthara- no chance for this dialogue. If you don't kill Minthara, you might not rescue her from Moonrise. Even then, you might not talk with her much/at all, or have low approval. Really cool scene. Have to ask, what is that crown from?

Orin in the lore: Orin in the actual fight: Me spending 15 turns letting her awkwardly do nothing to me in slayer form while I try to figure out the best way to get around her shield before finally managing to disable the cultists Shadowheart life cleric and Perilous Stakes > Orin the Red

Or you could use the multi attacks that are terribly weak and underrated just to squeeze away the charge of the buffs on Orin, such as duel wield attack or magic missile

Uh, so quick question: Does Sword of Chaos *normally* ignore her Unstoppable stacks? Like, is that supposed to happen? Both times I fought her I stuck that on Karlach and let her go to fucking town in Bear Rage. EDIT: for reference, Karlach had init 8 and init 7 respectively, so she went either 1st or 2nd in the turn order before my other party members. Unstoppable was at 5-7 stacks per round.

I spammed magic missile and scorching ray at higher levels to remove her shield and then my paladin smited her to oblivion. She died before I even touched the cultists.

nah give me that tragic shit. life’s too short for a never ending blockade of happy endings. i love having characters with such hellbent personal quests that go against your own personal values. makes you squirm like a mindflayer worm as you realize there’s no way to please everyone and just take chances on the ones you actually love. even if their end is fucked, it’s my choice to make and it feels like there’s weight for it

@@alundor spoiler alert for those wanting to avoid them: Knock her out during her fight with non-lethal damage. She will appear later in act 2.

+ Sidenote, genuine lore question if anyone knows: wouldn't Minthara have led women soldiers? Is 'men' just the, like, less formal plural for 'fighters'?

The themes of bodily autonomy, brainwashing and cycles of abuse throughout this game, even on characters who are easily missed, is very well done. While the nature of a Drow is more evil, this encounter explains a lot about her actions in Act 1. It is essentialy not her true self.
