@@lstradamus, so are you saying you can only be one thing? Your either a singer or you are a rapper? I mean he raps other songs also. To debunk your theory the first song to hit number one with an element of rap was from a British pop singer. But she is a singer therefore that song should not be considered to be the first song with a rap element to hit number one. She must have just been Singing in a particular way. Now you may say, well, she's not considered a rapper though is she? I would agree that she is most notably recognized as a singer but because of that song, I would say that she has performed as a rapper therefore, yeah, she is a rapper as well. It is also important to recognize that rap in the eighties is much different than rap today. Many "rap" songs back then would not be considered "rap" by today's standards. Many of Bobby Brown's songs probably wouldn't be seen as rap today but when they were written, that is what people categorized them as. So yeah, he sing R & B, Soul, Smooth Jazz, and even Rap. He can be considered a singer of all of those. It's like saying Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish can only be considered a pop musician or a country singer when in fact he is both. But thank you for your opinions on Music Theory, even if it is wrong.

“Defcon 1” is another great one. Mr. Stay Puft being requested by the ghost conference as their keynote speaker is one of the highlights of the series comical edge. One of my favorite lines from the show that referenced the movie was when the Ghostbusters are told the names of the actors who will play them in the movie: Hudson, Murray, Akroyd, and Ramis; Peter goes "sounds like a law firm." It doesn't get better than that. Incidentally I wondered about Slimer's back story which I don't know was ever elaborated in the series. Supposedly they got the idea of him being based on John Belushi.

I always thought Walter Peck got the shaft. He was a guy trying to do his job. He seemed legitimately concerned about what the GBs were doing and that they were either con-artists or messing with dangerous stuff.
@Dargonhuman
@Dargonhuman 6 жыл бұрын
Mark Siefert I see what you're saying, and to a degree you're right, but the problem with Peck's approach to the issue is that he didn't actually follow proper procedure; he made a snap decision that he simply didn't like the GB's and instead of doing a proper investigation and being professional, he let his emotions decide to shut down the grid despite warnings from both the GB's and the city technician he brought with him. Peck should have brought in an entire team of scientists, engineers and such to look over the equipment, run tests and report back to him their findings before making his decision.
@AaronLitz
@AaronLitz 6 жыл бұрын
Mark Siefert If he'd been honest about doing his job that would be true, but from the start he came to the situation acting like an ass, deliberately calling Peter "Mr. Venkman" instead of "Dr.", and so Peter responded in kind, acting like a jerk back to him. If he'd initially met with Egon, for example, it may have ended up going differently... but I don't really think so, as Peck already had his mind made up from the beginning that the Ghostbusters were frauds, and he antagonized them from the very first meeting. (Remember that Peck was such an ass and so full of shit with his irrational accusations that he actually managed to push the calm, detached, and dispassionate *Egon* into snapping and trying to attack him.)

I loved this show, and Peter and Slimer’s love/hate relationship was my favorite part. Then they fired Lorenzo Music, replaced him with Joey from Full House, made Janine a softer character, and made Slimer the main focus. They even changed his relationship with Peter. Basically it went from funny, smart humor, to just plain stupid. What was really dumb was giving Slimer actual dialogue. He went from my favorite character, to the reason I stopped watching the show.

I agree with you. Lorenzo Music have done an excellent job with Peter's voice. In fact, Music's voice was the reason why Peter was my favorite, character. However, it was Bill Murray who had Music replace because he hated idea of Peter's voice sounds like Garfield rather than his voice. So, the studio replaced him with Dave Coulier. Furthermore, I hated the Slimer show. On Saturday morning, I would skip the Slimer show to watch the Real Ghostbusters; until, the Ghostbusters became too stupid to watch. But, if you ask me, I think the writers and Bill Murray should have left the show alone. After all, Ghostbusters was doing fine; until, they started making unnecessary changes.

In reguard to Winston's voice, I recall reading that the producers of the show didn't want the characters to sound too much like their movie counterparts. I think this is also why the designs are different looking as well (and probably why Peter's design changed). I think this is more due to laws around actor's likenesses and voices then wanting to be different; but with Winston... I think one can make a valid case of 'Well if they go him to reprise the role, why not get the rest of them?' where is makes sense not to cast him since all the others are recast. The closest exception they made to this rule was with Maurice Lamarche, as they just ended up REALLY impressed by his impersonation of Harold Ramis.

I think my favourite episode was the one where Winston went to a minor league baseball game where the regular teams were replaced by an army of good VS an army of evil playing for a mysterious, unknown prize every 500 years, forced to use whatever form of combat was being used on that patch of ground they rose up from--in this case a baseball game. I found it the most profound of all the episodes as well as how the Ghostbusters actually "play ball" in the game, participating on the "Good Team". I especially love at the end when Peter finds out what they were playing for, whose they were playing for, and how he nearly lost all by nearly cheating.

Bonus fact! The Extreme Ghostbusters didn't have the rights to use any likeness of the original Real Ghostbusters characters. They assumed they'd get them throughout production but ended up not? So when you watch the show there will see manikins and photographs of the original Ghostbusters all pixelated out because they didn't have the time/budget to go back and edit them all out of the backgrounds.

Gosh I loved this show, also extreme ghostbusters. For a show with "extreme" in it's name it was pretty damn good... Also Kiley and Janine where allways for me the biggest proof how dumb and wrong the "nobody likes female ghostbusters" statement was and that they used it just as a dumb controversy. Janine was a ghostbuster at times in the show and people loved it, and Kiley is to this day a fan-favourite. I think she even shows up in some of the modern comics. Also not sure what is so creepy about this intro, but what was really creepy for me was the outro of extreme ghostbusters. It was some weird spooky music with freaky ghost-noises and concept art of the creepy ghost was floating over the screen.... till it ended on a freeze frame of the ugliest looking one that of course had to look right at the camera... geez

Exactly. Kylie is a supporting character in the ongoing IDW Ghostbusters comics right alongside Janine at this point. In fact, the Ghostbusters have expanded their business just like the 2009 video game and have interns, and other reserve female members that put “that film in 2016” characters to utter shame (Agent Ortiz, anyone?). The series is frickin awesome and they have even more awesome crossovers with RGB and TMNT. They even had a Transformers one that was recent I haven’t looked at yet, but the synopsis makes a hell of a lot of sense.

There was even one episode where the ghostbusters were kidnapped and sent to another realm and Janine had to borrow a proton pack and go find them. My favorite episode is the scariest one: the one about the Boogeyman. I give the artists a LOT of credit. They made him scary as hell. In fact, they probably did their jobs too well - the studio was flooded with phone calls from angry parents who said the episode was too scary and demanded that the episode be removed!
@TheDutchGhost
@TheDutchGhost Жыл бұрын
There was never a problem with the idea of a female Ghostbusters team. Rather it was the storyline and the portrayal of the characters, and perhaps some of the actresses that had been chosen. There was also no need for any kind of 'reboot' of the franchise. The story could have been about four women who for individual reasons decide to purchase a Ghostbusters license from Ghostbusters Inc (lets assume that after Ghostbusters 2 the original Ghostbusters had so much financial success that they could start expanding their company) and form their own Ghostbusters team. Murray, Akroyd, and Hudson could have played their old roles again even if it is just to set up the new characters' story/journey. Now the main four characters need to keep their business in the green so that they can pay for the franchise and equipment costs while somewhere in the background a new Outside force starts to stir.

The show is far more rich and complex than what you could cover here. Been a historian of sorts for this show all of my life. There's things to note. The animation looks like 80s anime at times because it was, the show was animated in japan(oops Korea), so it's kinda an anime. The first season used pop music from Tahiti pop group for some reason, later never heard in the rest of the show. Also the first season was the best animated and written, all before syndication and of course the years where the show runner was removed and slimer took over, but there were a few halloween specials which were nice quality. The show was so well written at the start an entire episode was dedicated to Winston, solidifying why he's a great ghostbuster, and not one proton pack was used in the episode. Hudson would have gladly voiced winston, that's true. He got the last laugh having appeared as Winston on Fox Kids during a segment on Super Mario Super show, it was glorious. Dana never appears on the show, ever. Strange to grow up knowing her from the movie and having her not even exist in the show but her character would have nothing to do so it made sense. They brought Louis in and it didn't make sense. Harold Ramis made his hair bigger in GB2 to emulate the toon egon's hair. Slimer has a larger role in as well because of the cartoon making him a regular character. The show of course gave birth to Ecto Cooler which became the golden nectar of my childhood. Cheerios, Real Ghostbusters, and Ecto cooler... good retrospective. Such a monumental cartoon.

Another moment to point out: They actually address Janine's change in season six, in an episode titled, Janine, You've Changed, where it happens she basically sells her soul and body to a "Fairy Godmother" because she wants to be prettier to gain Egon's affections. While the change was a shame (especially the real reason why), it's actually great that they decided to address it and give it some form of lore on the show.

So, supposedly why everyone looked different from their movie counterparts was due to Columbia and Dic not wanting to pay expensive royalties to the actors for their likenesses and retain all profits for themselves. An oddly similar thing later happened with the MIB and Godzilla cartoons.
@everyonethinksyoureadeathm5773

Not really, for Men in Black it was based off a one shot comic of the same name. Tho when it came to the animated series it was hard to get Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith to portray their animated counterparts due to both actors being in high demand at the time (MIB being a smash hit and all). For the ghost busters there was a lot of issues mainly extending from Bill Murray who disliked sequels (it's often reported they had to pay him a lot of cash just to do the second movie and he acquiesced for the game with his voice.) I think with Godzilla there was a lot of issues and money played a role. So for most of it yes money played a role but avialbility of the actors was another factor.

Nah. Like David said, there would never be a shortage of ghosts (well, except that one episode where the team ran out of ghosts to catch and went after criminals. That one was ... odd ...) and it wasn't just ghosts that they battled in the series either; they faced their share of other assorted mythical beings and beasts like demons, faeries, vampires, bogeymen, etc. Although, on that note, the movie did already explain why there were so many ghosts still in New York City; when Peck shut down the containment grid (just before Vince Glortho and Zuul hooked up), it released all of the ghosts that the team had captured to that point so an in-cartoon explanation wasn't necessary since the movie already explained it.

Though it's only hearsay, Dan Ackroid and Harold Ramis both stated the script for the game to officially be the third movie - which is why it also reunited the original cast for each of the characters. And why it played so cinematically. Oh and it did feature the storyline of new recruit(s), I.e. the player character.

Years ago I watched a video on KZfaq and I cannot remember the channel but this guy who was REALLY into Ghostbusters talked about some of this stuff. The stupid changes came along from some consulting firm that came in and ordered all these things to be more kid-friendly. This was not the only cartoon that firm ruined. The staff at the Ghostbusters firm fought them tooth and nail, hated the changes, and some of them quit. And I remember that they actually made an episode of the show to explain all of Janine’s changes, it was some fairy godmother (that she didn’t know was evil) that she for years was making wishes to, to change her appearance. And the Ghostbusters were too oblivious to Janine to notice the gradual changes.

Re: Ernie Hudson not as Winston: For whatever reason, valid or otherwise, the studio did not want the characters' portrayals to mirror those of the movie. They wanted every character to both look and sound different. One probable reason could be likeness rights. Regardless as to why, if they made the decision that they didn't want the characters to resemble their real-life portrayals, casting the person who played the real life portrayal of Winston would be counter-intuitive to say the least. The only character to get a voice that was close to an impersonation of his movie counterpart was Egon, and that was likely because Maurice LaMarche is simply that good.

You missed that in a stroke of writing genius, they explained why Janine had changed over the years. She had cast a spell or something I can’t remember…a demon maybe? Everyone noticed that she’d changed except Egon and Janine went off on Ego, saying she had changed for him and how dare he not notice. I remember that episode being epic. She’s floating around him, her look changing over and over, and saying “Am I good enough now Egon?! How about now?!’. That was genius!
