Jacob Gutman that was a fantastic tour. I prefer P.TM then as opposed to now. Mtb has done no wrong, though. IMO.

I don't get why they hired Josh but let him write such simple drum parts. Don't get me wrong, I love MTB but Josh's work in Slow Mass is lightyears ahead compared to his work in Voids. It's a shame really.

It is as if I'm the only one who's watched this video and enjoyed it and actually enjoyed Voids as an album. And yes I love the old stuff as well! Bands change! If you don't like it, so be it.

lilmanjs166 I agree. If all of MtBs stuff sounded exactly the same, everyone would be bitchin about how all their stuff sounds the same. Bands NEED to evolve as musicians or else their stuff would become stale. So I say to everyone hating, stop watching these videos and listening to these songs. If u know u don't like it then why are u here? I love all MTB albums. To me, they all have that MtB sound. And it's always beautiful.

I actually love the Ice Monster and Omni albums... can't really get into the old stuff. Don't crucify me lol. Got to see them a couple years ago and was beyond impressed. and whatever song is playing at 7:59 is dope.

MTB came and played at our st pattys frat fest in columbia SC one year. They knew they would be underappreciated amongst all the country and 90s washed up wonders but still rocked that shit. These guys love what they do and i will always see them when i can. I like this new stuff. Its just toned down but still got soul

Did anyone see them on the Voids tour and since? Everything from Omni + absolutely rips. The dynamics and composition of instruments is so stellar. This performance is a lil rough and I think that's just cuz the songs are so new at that point.. not cuz "they're bored." "Last Kiss" rips so good live, man.

i like these live versions better than all the album versions . I agree they are not the same band from Planet Of Ice but i think Infinity Overhead was a very good rocking album .I will take this band over most of the garbage passing it self off as music these days!

Some of you guys are a bit harsh. I can understand that this kind of music may not be your thing, which isn't a fault of the music itself if you just don't like that kind of music. So why did you even listen? Anyway, Minus the Bear is kind of a band that has some amazingly chaotic music that melds the indie rock with the slight hint of electronics. It's actually something that started some time ago and they have forged on with that sound before anyone else was really doing it. I don't think it is their intention to make pop music, but rather indie rock. If they are trying to make pop, then yeah, you're right, they maybe failed a bit. As for the band, they sound better than they ever have. I saw them years ago at a block party on Capital Hill and was very unimpressed. But this was a step up. If you ever needed to know why Minus the Bear sticks around, you just need to give their albums a chance. Try their acoustic albums too, it jumps from the electronic sounds into a more mellow setting that actually works with the vocals a bit better. All in all, the band is talented at making the indie music that they make. If you don't like it, that's okay, but it doesn't make them a bad or untalented band.

the fact is: these chorus are just too generic. these songs have generic feel man. stop listening to new albums of bands that have nothing to contribute to interesting music anymore (btw, they used to contribute to it), and waste your time on good and interesting music. THE WORLD IS FULL OF THEM, GO SEEK FOR IT LAZY BOY. and the major point is: if fans are asking (giving a feedback) for more interesting and different music of a band that used to do it in the past... why do you want them to stop and let minus be trendy?! THE WORLD IS FULL OF GOOD GEMS, GO SEEK FOR IT LAZY BOY.

Patrick Pugh the only issue with preying upon music is the habit it breeds which could explain a lot about society, where you can find numerous music communities because anyone can use garageband - you wouldn't be preying for a person you'd be preying for a profile or type-characteristics which often aren't properly read and as for music well, mtb has a unique and unchanging sound, do you compromise with fans and change that to gain more or ride the tides because this isn't the stone or middle ages and you can crunch numbers regarding any survey or request; demographics - asl

CarlosBrabo We just have to come to harsh realization that Minus the Bear isn't pandering to their older fans. They're obviously focusing their energies in crafting by the number melodies with no real emotional attachment at this point. I mean, some of these songs have such terrible harmonies and yet, they continue down their path of sounding more and more like Coldplays X&Y album.

It's like these people don't understand that Minus The Bear write catchy songs, on every album, for their entirety. This sounds just like an evolution of their sound, as every album as has been and the bullshit vitriolic hate from "fans" not understanding staying stagnant is fucking awful and that's how you fade away and your relevance dissipates. MTB will be around, making unique, artfully blended music for the next decade at least.

It stems from the fanbase being pretentious shits. Which stems from minus the bear pretending they didnt give a shot by making song titles that have nothing to do with the song. A general laissez faire attitude. I love minus the bear. I'll miss them terribly. The fans are entitled losers who think they can also write indie rock albums but just haven't yet.

everytime i listen to this new songs i feel a drownsing sadness filling up my chest. minus the bear was my favourite band, fantastic arrangements, beautiful guitar and vocal lines... the perfect mix between post-rock and math-rock (and a little emo). it was trully beautiful and breath taken. i really dont know what the fuck is going on with them, but it makes me really, really sad for them. i remember their myspace description, it was something like "we are classic rock of the future". i guess the future happens until 2010 and this is it. :'(

ramon gonçalves this is as serious as the scene from #billymadison about the lost dog, i find this refreshing and in-line with previous works - if post-rock is melodic then yes to that but i think they only got math-rock for the name, unless the layering because it nicely puzzle pieces together, sort of making it a genre standalone

The name "Minus the Bear" comes from an in-joke among the band members, referring to the 1970s television series B. J. and the Bear. "A friend of the band had gone on a date," explained singer-guitarist Jake Snider, "and one of us asked him afterwards how the date went. Our friend said, 'You know that TV show from the '70s, B. J. and the Bear? It was like that ... minus the Bear.' That’s the straight truth." Copied from Wikipedia. Easier than trying to explain myself

Gotta love the butthurt fair-weather "fans" who like bands to keep putting out the same shit over and over and over again. Love bands who keep evolving and rounding out their sounds. Great stuff here. They have gone from an average indie rock band to almost a prog rock band. Kings of Leon vibes.

Happy to see my disdain for MTB's new direction shared in the top comments here. Nothing against their new drummer (he's phenomenal), but there's a reason why Tate left the band. Their material up to Omni was consistently unique and refreshing, something most bands are unable to achieve just going into a sophomore album. Tate was asked to dumb down his patterns after Planet of Ice and ever since then the music has sounded completely uninspired. They broke a mold for 10 years and then either got lazy or tried appealing to mainstream ears.

I miss Botch. I've tried with Minus the Bear and every time I listen to them I feel like they're saying "listen to this really corny pop song with super cheesy lyrics as a joke" except they're leaving out the joke part which just leaves me confused.

Well, no one's perfect. At least the previous day they had Portugal. The Man which was a completely different kind of experience.

Dustin Klingler "Parents basement"...that's an awfully hack response. I wish I could enjoy their music and I've tried multiple times but I really strongly dislike it. I get no sense benefit from disliking it. I'm constantly looking for new bands I can enjoy. A guy in my own band likes Minus the Bear but I just don't get it. Some of the looping and tapping stuff is interesting none of the rest of the song ever seems to add anything.

MTB has literally written songs in pop structure with their own take on it virtually since the beginning. Their songs have always been radio friendly. Pachuca Sunrise is over 10 years old and is still played on the radio.

MINUS THE BEAR is far too experienced of a group, (veterans of rock) in my opinion to be making such cookie cutter music. I mean, they didn't look the least bit enthusiastic about performing any of these songs. In my opinion Voids should've been the Freshman album they release and Planet of Ice being their Magnus Opus then just disbanding afterwards like any good band. lmao Because VOIDS is Void of any originality and musical commitment.

What I've always liked about their past music is that you can drown out the singing if you wanted to easily because he uses his voice like a part of the instruments where it doesn't take center stage rather it just adds another layer to the whole. I've noticed though that as they simplified the complexity of their instruments in the later releases and Jake's singing took more of the spotlight their music started sounding extremely generic.
