There's an Austrian Western from a few years back called "The Dark Valley" that has some good footage of a Werndl in action. It's worth a watch, though it's a very dark film, thematically.
@erazer1395
@erazer1395 2 жыл бұрын
Austrian Western is a vague description, I would call it a Drama/Revenge movie with the style of a western which takes place in the Austrian alps in the 1890s. But yeah I would also recommend watching it, especially if you're a gun nerd, there are some good (and to my astonishment somewhat technical) scenes.

They are made off good materials. They will basically last forever if stored correctly. There are firearms from the 1500's that are still fully functional.
@MagizardInternet
@MagizardInternet Жыл бұрын
@@WhattAreYouSaying Also, to be fair, modern weapons have to accommodate for a hell of a lot more chamber pressure and have more complicated moving parts than the Werndl or the Martini-Henry. Once you get to the bolt actions, so many years tend to make them degrade faster.
@WhattAreYouSaying
@WhattAreYouSaying Жыл бұрын
@@MagizardInternet That is very true, but that depends on a lot of factors. Like storage, lubricants and so on. The two oldest bolt action rifles I have is an Italian Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87. It is made in 1887, it is as good as new. I also have a Steyr Kropatscheck rifle made in 1886, it is also as good as new. Those are the oldest bolt action rifles I have. The oldest gun I have is a Norwegian Kongsberg musket from 1769. Even that one works. It's quite remarkable when you think about their age. In 100 years from now, I don't think I would trust a modern gun like an AR-15 or a Glock. But I'm sure those rifles from the 1800's would still work perfectly in 100 years from now, even the old muzzleloaders.
@MagizardInternet
@MagizardInternet Жыл бұрын
@@WhattAreYouSaying I definitely agree. The principle of longevity was also more prominent in those days. If I remember correctly, it's entirely possible for AKs to live past 50 years or more using cosmoline storage. Although, I think it may even be possible with other guns.
@WhattAreYouSaying
@WhattAreYouSaying Жыл бұрын
@@MagizardInternet Yes, the cosmoline thing is very effective. I have seen SKS rifles that has been soaking in cosmoline since the 1950's, just clean the rifle and they are good to go. Cosmoline is a very effective method to preserve a gun over time. I collect firearms from mostly WW1 and WW2, I have around 40-45 different guns. Many of them are from WW1 or older, 90% of them are in good condition. Some of them are a little bit rusty and dirty because of bad storage, but they still work. I live in Norway and I have a Krag Jørgensen rifle that was buried under ground during WW2, to hide it from the Germans. It was buried for 5 years. Apparently it was never cleaned after the war...I cleaned it last week, it was a total mess of 80 year old dirt and oil. Had to take everything apart. Laid the rifle and it's parts in hot water in the bathtub for several hours, then I soaked it in WD-40 several times and washed it off. I got it clean and the rifle still works. It has some deep pitting on it, on the outside, but nothing serious.

Hey, I know this one! I play that on Tannenberg as the Austro-Hungarian army riflemen. Technically it is on the top you can unlock for that class, but it feels like a downgrade since if you ain't shooting players, you are shooting a horde of AIs and then you have to shoot, duck, reload, stand, shoot, duck, reload, stand and shoot. A good tactic in general but a dead giveaway for a player.

Mae, you are young, so you might not notice. But as a person ages, having the rear sight farther away helps with sight alignment and focusing on the front sight. If your eyes are older and you are tired, something all you can do is focus on the front sight and try to align the fuzzy rear as best as possible. This set-up may have been designed for older, second line “Landwehr” troops.

I'm wondering if this wasn't developed soon after the Austrians lost to the Prussians in that battle that was fought in 1866. I can't remember the battle's name, but in that battle the Prussians were using their breech-loading needle-guns, a precursor to the bolt action rifle, whereas the Austrians were using percussion cap muzzle-loaders. I'm judging this by the numbers given to this gun "1867..."
