There was a brief window of time, in the mid to late 1970s, when this little jewel was a common find in many gun and pawn stores in South Carolina....And I took a pass on each and every one of them no matter how nice their condition....Because I was a big dummy and really had no clue what I was looking at/holding in my hand.

Go figure! Just a few months ago I found and cleaned up an old Savage 1907 that my grandfather had, and lo and behold, he lived in SC his whole life, and was mainly buying guns in the 70s.

The Savage 1907 has always been my favorite of the "squirt gun" pistols. I'd seriously consider it as a carry piece even today.

You would NOT be wrong. Even "just" in .32 ACP it was ahead of its time by at least 2 decades. With modern ammo, you would not be under gunned, in .380 ACP it would be even MORE Awesome! I love Savage '07! Under rated of all the early autos! I have one, but sadly I can't carry it in case I NEED it. 😳Would NOT want to lose it in "evidence" if an "extreme personal encounter" was necessary. I wish SOMEONE MADE an exact "repro". I'd buy one NOW!

I can fully imagine Mae voicing the dialogue for some kind of weapon menu in a video game. I used to love how games like Perfect Dark included detailed descriptions for every item, location and character.

Nice. I've been had a soft spot for the 1907 Savage. My grandfather had one in .380 ACP. One of my biggest regrets was never getting a chance to shoot it. Thanks again for a great video, Mae.

Most enjoyable thank you,I love all these 'pocket' pistols that you have reviewed which were quite plentiful in the UK when citizens could own a pistol for self-defence in the early 20thC and later when numbers were shipped over during WW2 to equip the Home Guard,I was lucky enough to be able to shoot some of them when I worked in the gun trade many years ago.Nice to see them appreciated.

I love that this pistol disassembles with no tools whatsoever. However, on mine at least, the internals have lots of extremely sharp edges.

I already had a Savage 1907, I spent about two years with it, 10 + 1 in 7.65mm caliber, here in Brazil they were difficult weapons to find

I have one that I inherited from my late father in January 2020. It is a .32 acp manufactured in 1910; it is now almost 112 years old.

.32 is too weak of a service cartridge, isnt it?

Markus L: yes but during the trials savage made 1907s in .45 ACP. However, the French government purchased over 40,000 .32 ACP Model 1907s between late 1914 and 1917 for the French military in World War I.

The Savage couldn't win with the action it had. Would need a major redesign to compete. That said, Savage would probably be a much larger company today if they did win that trail...

@@Ballenylus but mix that with the fact that 1911's killed approximately 0 enemies (in WW2? I think I heard that form Ian from forg.weaps). If all you're doing is needing a capable firearm, then at some point it's acceptable to sacrifice certain things. And 32 ACP is good enough for most of its intended uses.

Mae is a savage, shooting a Savage 😀. Quick question, when you do these Minute of Mae videos on something you haven't reviewed in a long while, is it hard to remember (pull that information out from everything else you have shot), or do you just rely on your notes? I will film shooting footage for several guns, but when I am making the video for one two months later, I sometimes have a hard time remembering what I liked and didn't like about it.

Some stuff is getting re filmed eventually but for now we are using existing footage that is still to present standard

I'll remember the majority of features about the gun and handling it, but I'll always go back and review footage just to double check I'm not forgetting anything. If I'm lucky, I also still have the piece here with me to reference as well.

There is good reason Savage was second only to the 1911 during trials for service handguns. This is a rather good design, and I am sad that it did not survive any longer after what it did. Also craftsmanship was great. Just look at the bluing on this example. The magazine release is strange, and even stranger on later models, but that is a shall issue compared to everything they got right.

I'd "rock" one now (as the "kids" would say) But I'd hate to risk a collectible if I had had to have a "negative interpersonal encounter". I have one... I just can't CARRY it...I want someone to make an exact repro so I can CARRY the thing. PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE gun makers, I CAN'T be the ONLY one! LOL.
