This is the 11:00 p.m. newscast on May 6, 2013.
It was an ordinary Monday when the extraordinary happened.
The unthinkable happened.
A miracle happened.
As the sun soaked Seymour Avenue on that warm afternoon in Cleveland, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight had their freedom.
Finally.
After a decade of torture, they escaped the clutches of Ariel Castro.
The escape
5:51 p.m. The call came in.
"Help me, I'm Amanda Berry."
It was a voice many never thought would be heard from again.
"I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years and I'm here. I'm free now."

I don’t think I ever listened to the 911 call complete- the dispatcher was a complete dickhead to her! Some shouldn’t be in the business of service.

@@Bopperv he was dont with the call hit the info and even calmed her nerves and calmed her down Tough love but the world doesn’t revolve around her He did his job got the info as needed and confirmed the info He did a great job as well as he also calmed her down And they do get off to inform the officers to keep them up to date They only stay in the line in events where she is still in danger ( which she said she escaped the house and is across the street at the neighbors ) lol And the only ever other time they stay in the line is in movies which is a work of fiction Trust me I know I worked as a dispatcher Just because you are emotional about this doesn’t make your feeling above logic To you Typical woman nuff said

Dispatchers need more training. This was painful to listen to. Zero compassion, zero emotional support. I've been hearing recordings of so many dispatchers that really should not have such jobs.

it makes my heart so badly that the headline says those two girls found alive but it doesn't say MICHELLE Especially after hearing the interview of Michelle saying he always told her nobody cared or was looking for her. Bless her heart.

He only had one domestic violence charge and 2 calls to the home. Now that we know the extent of his wife’s injuries, it boggles the mind that he wasn’t behind bars sooner.

I feel so bad for Michelle, lost her son, was forced to miscarry, now she cant have anymore children, and she was the one who was treated the worst and ended up weighing as much as a pre teen, in her 30s

Why? The police on the way were already listening to the phone call, it was like 3 way comunication except that disparo Cher is the only one Allie to talk so they will a confusion of 3 parties talking at the same time. The operator main duty is to gather as much information as the police already on the way are leaving listening the situation before arriving

He got raped every day in prison, after a month he killed himself. 10 years they were there. Amanda She got impregnated and gave birth with no medical assistance. She escaped with her kid. She should be woman or the year! Not someone Caitlyn Jenner!

10 years ago a man named Charles Ramsey, who save and rescue Amanda and the other two. That day, if it wasn’t for him. Amanda, Michelle and Gina. Would still be stuck there, if he wasn’t there to save them.

I didn’t know this happened in Cleveland until a couple months ago I remember when this was all over the news,I hope the 911 dispatcher was fired he was very rude and careless! Someone who’s been kidnapped is calling for help in distress you’re not suppose to hang the phone up.

'Amazing story' saying it like something amazing happened? This was the saddest story and very unfortunate for the women to have been gone through this! We will pray for their healing and well being for life!

Because they didn’t have information on her at the time. And they said her name, they reported her as found they just didn’t have picture of Michelle.

Because sadly Michelle had no family looking for her. Her family never loved her and she was homeless when it happened. Other 2 girls had their family looking for them for years, being on the news, raising money etc... nothing for michelle so they had little to no information about her.

At the time when she was reported, because the police didn’t labelled report her as a missing person. They just labelled her as a runaway, not as a missing person case. As she never look further into it, as she wasn’t a teenager.

Yes, that is so sad though. They completely gave up searching for her, as police told them they think she was a runaway. Because she wasn’t a kid or a teenager, so I guess her Believe that and just gave up completely. Than just away and accepted their daughter ran away, didn’t bother to care whether if she’s was alive or not. Why Amanda and Gina family never gave up, what if they were a teenager or not. Also it was kinda family’s fault, specially her mother it’s a reason. Why her son was taken away from her, and probably why she was kidnapped. Not saying that was the absolutely reason why, she was kidnap because of the mother fail. To look after her daughter son and her grandson, she was supposed to look after her grandson. While her daughter Michelle was doing work, but she left it to her boyfriend who hurt her son. Which is the reason why her son was taking away, in the first place because he hurt her son.

The operator asked if he was black or hispanic.... she didn't asked if he was white..... and don't tell me it's the name, they are tones of spanish people with similar names that are white. And the news writting said Amanda and Gina were found alive. Not a word of Michelle! Even if she didn't have loved one looking for her in the news for years they should have include her name!

Yeah, she was ignored. Because the authority didn’t think that, she was a part or connected of a kidnapped. It also sad that her family gave up on searching for her, as they went up and moved away and stop completely.

poor michelle. I heard in a different video that she got even worse treatment because there wasn’t much news coverage about her as there was for the other two girls. not only was she kidnapped, assaulted, and abused but also psychologically tormented by feeling unwanted and unimportant

And Michelle too! The fact she didn't chose to act publicly to help others doesn't mean she's not strong, she was captive for the longer and got more violence with no family to wait for her! She helped stray animals after her liberation.

The girls said no one else was involved. The guy was brutally raped multiple times a day in prison with the guard refusing to help. He killed himself after a month the coward.

I don't remember if they were actually arrested. But i do know he had 2 brothers and they did interviews. They were over the house over the 10 years but didn't kmow anything. Castro would play music very loud etc. Sure u can find them on here.

Ariel Castro's two brothers, Pedro and Onil, were with him when he was arrested, and since the cops weren't sure of exactly what was going on and their involvement, they arrested all three of them. The two brothers were released and were never charged with any crimes. They had no idea their brother was kidnapping and holding girls captive in his basement.

Ariel Castro hung himself in prison a few months after he was sentenced. Sorry, I forgot to answer that part. The city bulldozed the house a while back, so it's just an empty lot now.

Michelle is handicapped and had the ruffest life I think the other two thought she wanted to stay there. She's the only one who could deliver Amanda's baby . Poor Amanda. No med.s, no nothing. Gina was not tuff enuf to bounce back or to endure this without damage. I worry about her. I think the other two are tuffer .
