The grandparents need to hear the cold hard truth. Your son decided that he didn’t want you to raise your grandchild. He thought about it for months, signed legal paperwork and decided that he didn’t think it was in his daughter’s best interest to be raised by you. Why? Because he didn’t think you were capable of putting her wants above your own, and the second he died you immediately proved him right.

Absolutely agree with you 👏♥️ Ben said it himself,they wanted to squeeze out everything from Dean that they did not like about him. They may be Dean's parents,but they are mean and huge egoists. Pru deserves love like the one Miranda and Ben can give,she deserves someone who cares about loving her

This shows just how much Miranda has grown as a character back then it would’ve took so much for her to admit that somebody else other than her was right but now she can admit that Ben is right about fighting for Pru.

I didn’t like how Pru’s grandfather called her by her second name and not the name Dean chose to honor Pruitt, Ben & Bailey should totally get Pru’s custody. Please let them be happy!!

Yea I don't like that either. Dean was proud of that name. And she should grow up knowing why that name was chosen and the fact that her father chose it for her. Now if later in like she decide to use her middle that's fine.

agreed but I believe it’s also a part of the Yoruba tradition to call the child by that name so that’s the reason they included that, part of the culture

Dean chose both of her names, Pruitt *and* Arike. Yes, Arike is her second name, but still,Dean gave it to her, not anyone else.

Honestly I think we can all predict that when it’s all said and done, Pru will be with Ben and Bailey. And let me tell you, it’s going to be so much fun to watch them raise a little girl. They’re never going to let her forget her dad but they’re going to love her SO much.

Pru should 100% be with Miranda and Warren because they actually know her and care about her. Miller's parents (his mom specifically) only want her to exert their power. They don't actually care about her-his mother even said "We're Pru's guardians." "Guardians" is extremely impersonal and it shows that they don't actually care what Pru or Miller wanted, they only care about power. Guardian also implies they don't actually want to take care of her, but they feel like they have to. Pru should be around people that actually love and care about her and won't yell at her for being second in her class. She should also be with people that care about what she wants as opposed to forcing her into a life she doesn't want. Also, what's with them calling her by her middle name? I think Miller's father said "It's her true name," but they never did that with Miller or his sister-they called them by their first names. If Pru decides she wants to be called by her middle name, that's fine, because it's HER choice. This also goes to show they don't care about Pru or Miller, they aren't even willing to call her by her real name-a name her father gave her. I'm sorry this comment is so long, I always end up typing super long comments.😆

Millers is mad that Dean accepts his jobs as his family and biological family abandon Dean because Dean chosed became a firefighter 🚒. They still get it after death. Everything in they way..

God why are his parents so awful. They don’t even care what their son wanted. I don’t see why it matters what they want or that they are blood because he had a legal document what his wishes were. What even is the point of someone having a will or creating any legal documents on the events of their death if they are just going to be blatantly disregard.

Did Dean have a will or a trust? Did he spell out in a legal document what was to happen to his assets and who would be guardian of his child in the case of his death? He was a smart man, and a capable one. Why aren't his wishes being adhered to?

Because his parents don't care. He did specify in legal documents that he wanted Ben and Miranda to raise Pru, but his parents don't care.

Even if a person draws up a specific, detailed legal document expressing their wishes in the event of their death, any living family member can legally contest any of it for any reason -- especially if it's a posthumous attempt to eradicate any trace of the deceased's personal choices the living family member(s) didn't agree with... as is the case with Dean's parents, according to Ben. Sounds like pre-2015 all over again.

I realize this is TV and the outcome will be what the writer's want but in the real world they wouldn't have a chance in he** at getting custody of that little girl. I am trying to understand how a firefighter, a single parent no less, has no formal will. It makes Dean look downright irresponsible!

He does have a will. It’s written that Ben and Miranda are her guardians. It’s just the grandparents don’t care what the will says

Well, watch the show, you'll find out he did have a will.. his parents are just very rich and are fighting it, and they have a better cahnce to win, seeing they are Pru's blood relatives.

@@noashom Welll that was my point in saying that IRL they wouldn't have a shot in he** in getting custody but if he had a will and named them as guardians of his daughter that changes things drastically. The grandparents can contest the will but unless the court finds the named guardians unfit in some way, blood relatives or not, the grandparents actually have less claim to the child. It is a parent's right to choose any guardian they see fit unless there is some type of custody agreement in place that would automatically place the child in the custody of a co-guardian, ie a spose or an ex-spouse etc.

@@nnewton844 Well IRL the courts would care. Unless the grandparents could prove to the court that Ben and Miranda are somehow unfit guardians then the grandparents have no legal ground to stand on. A parent has the right to choose any guardian they want in the event of their death, blood relation or not. Unless, there is someone like another parent who already has established legal rights. I had 2 sets of grandparents but in the event of their deaths my parents didn't want me going to either of them. They chose guardians for me that were not blood related. My grandparents were upset but there was nothing they could do about it.

Dean’s parents are just replacing him and in all honesty his is just bad writing he had a will parents or not dean has final say who looks after his kid not his parents especially if in his will he names Ben and Miranda as prus legal guardian

it should be a fight for coparenting. they get to babysit, see her for family events etc. But taking a child from her grandparents isn't quite right. If Ben and Miranda get the baby then Pru could grow up one day resenting them for not letting her be with her grandparents. Dean's mom also came back. As much as we demonize Dean's parents, the mother did come back. Put yourself in the grandparents shoes. Dean had every chance to make a will.

He did make a will. Ben and Miranda are her guardians. Even with it in writing, dean’s mom says she has to overrule his wishes.

@@nnewton844 it needed to be explicit to the point of the court knowing those grandparents aren’t right. Take it from someone that’s been adopted. Ben is assuming about deans parents but we only know deans version. Just like we’re learning about Travis and his parents, it’s not that black and white. The best for the kid is to have joint custody or some arrangement. But fighting for full custody against people that want the kid and are not evil in the sense of physical abuse or alcoholism, is not right.

That is not joint custody.. Seeing her at family events and babysit her(babysit??? They are not some random teenage girl who is watching kids for money..) sounds more like visitation rights, not at all joint custody.

@@Ambereigh not really. Depriving a family of their dead sons child is no better and Miranda knows that. Bens fight is more about hating deans parents than actually caring about what is best for pru. Tons of parents don’t approve of their kids career choices but we don’t have the state intervene. Deans parents if they really hated their son wouldn’t have kept their name on the mortgage and let dean live in the house boat. Technically they own it but they didn’t kick him off of it when he changed career.

If you mean by "family" is her grandparents, then no. Her grandparents didn't even want her in the first place, which is why Miller wanted Ben and Bailey to raise her. His parents are toxic.

@@lilmakori I feel bad for them too, but their grief doesn't give them a "pass" on everything. The fact is that they didn't even want to know Pru when she was born and stopped talking with Dean when they realized he decided to raise her on his own. True, they came around in the end but at evety step of the way they tried to control him and his mom even says it very clearly in this episode-we couldn't stop him from doing the wrong thing, but now we can. Now they can because he is dead and can't defend himself, his choices or his daughter.

@@astronomer121388 exactly and i think that in the episode where Miller was writing his will and looking for someone to take care a Pru he said that he was leaving everything to her so, Pru's legal guardians (aka Ben and Miranda since it was written in the will that they would take care of Pru) have the possession of the house and i think there is a law that forbids them to do something to the house since it's Pru name on it.

@@astronomer121388 Pru is a minor, whoever takes care of her also inherites the houseboat. Right now, Dean's parents are doing that, even though he wrote in his will that he wanted Bailey and Warren to raise Pru, because they are related to her by blood and have a stronger case.

If Miller stated in his will that Bailey and Ben would be Pru's legal guardians in case something happened to him, the grandparents' stance would be questionable unless Ben and Bailey relinquished that responsibility. Also, the guardians won't inherit the property, it's still Pru's. Whoever is the guardian will just be responsible for preserving the assets but they will not own any property left in the ward's name.
