Interactions between humans will never improve much as long as we don't discuss the toxic portions of femininity too. To pretend that there aren't any toxic elements of femininity is akin to saying that there are no toxic elements to masculinity which many would deem comical at best. There is a reason that domestic abuse amongst lesbian women is higher than their straight counterparts, something the anti-male types conveniantly forget and or ignore. The issue is that the term toxic masculinity is too vague. What do people mean when they say that phrase? They rarely make it clear. Assertiveness? Emotional Strength? When the phrase 'toxic masculinity' is used they are casting the net extremely wide. That needs to change. There are good sides to masculinity just as there are good sides to femininity. Laziness in speech is the problem. Be precise in your speech, everyone.
@user-ub8oi7oh3r
@user-ub8oi7oh3r 5 жыл бұрын
Domestic abuse in lesbian women isn’t higher. Before you make up facts learn how to spell. Toxic femininity is never not discussed. We are always talking about how damaging beauty standards/femininity standards are. Toxic femininity is and always has been extensively debated. It’s toxic masculinity that’s the problem. It’s causing mental health issues to become so common among men, and the pressures the idea of being masculine causes men/boys to deteriorate.
@roberjohnsmith
@roberjohnsmith 5 жыл бұрын
If that were true then why is it that 70 years ago when men were waaaaaay more masculine and more to toxicly masculine were suicide rates so much lower and mental disorders much lower in men? When toxic masculinity is discussed, it almost seems interchangeable with the term historical masculinity, we are told by modern feminist theory that men of old from that time were much more toxic than today. They were old fashioned and beat their wives and spanked their kids and had much more emphasis on "being a man" and yet all of those symptoms you listed were conditions of modern society in the modern man. Since you seem very intelligent I would like for you to describe specifically what is toxic masculinity so that I can better understand. Because as the op pointed out laziness in speech and lack of specifics is really muddying the waters and I hear a different explanation of what toxic masculinity is depending on who I'm talking to. Most often though it's described to me as old school masculinity, the emphasis on being a man a suckling it up and being strong and not showing emotion. That type of stuff is my understanding of toxic masculinity but maybe there is something I don't understand. Whether or not I am grasping the concept properly is a result of these varying definitions and lack of specific speech. So specifically, if you can help me out, what is toxic masculinity?
@roberjohnsmith
@roberjohnsmith 5 жыл бұрын
I would also argue that the beauty standards portrayed in modern society are a result of normalization of pornography and marketing campaigns rather than toxic femininity. I believe a bunch of men and women sitting in board rooms with psychology and marketing degrees figured out how to sell people things in a more strategic way. I don't know how you could say that is toxic feminity. I think of believe if toxic feminity were a thing, which I don't really believe, but if it were a thing I would say girls gossiping about other girls is a big one. Being nice to your face and talking behind your back. A man holding a door for a woman and a woman responding "I don't need help from a man", I would say that is toxic feminity. But I mean in reality I don't believe that, I just believe that's an example of somebody being rude and unhinged which I think both sexes are capable of. Either way I don't think my perception of toxic feminity really even matters because these terms are so new and haven't been clearly defined by anybody so I can't say I buy into any of it until there is clear and concise definition. When that happens then I think honest discussions and debates can be had.

Look around you. Everything you see was built by MEN. And the freedoms we enjoy were fought for, bled for, and died for by men. And all of this was and is made possible by traditional masculinity. To me, this is self evident. Women wanted rights and they got them, but never really had to bleed for them. They lobbied for them. Protested for them. Demanded them, but never REALLY fought, bled, or died for them. They just stayed home and let the men go off and fight. Now the subject of whether we should embrace or reject the traditional masculinity that secured us our rights is being debated. The world really has gone crazy.

Its like this, masculinity represents the source of something and feminine as the manifestation. just as how the cause that triggered when life is born is the man and the method through which the new born manifests into body is the women. its more leaned towards meaning. strength of man and nurturing of women are just two essential side qualities, the underlying meaning is like source or cause and the method or manifestation. like the fire and the heat, milk and its whiteness etc

Even the question is loaded. 'Traditional' implies social constructionism. It assumes we are blank slates, at least insofar as the scope of this issue. It makes us think in terms of negotiable roles (wants?) rather than innate niches (needs?). The important question is to what extent can our culture reflect our nature, thereby allowing for individual authenticity, shared values, social harmony and meaning in life? How can we fashion a culture in which both sexes can thrive? Male suicide rates scream that we are not there yet.

Agree with what others are saying. Men don't need permission from Women, nor should any self-repsecting man entertain the idea. And if you're a dude and think this is up for debate, please do us all a favor and go play in traffic with a blindfold on. Just as a Bullshit Test, replace Masculinity with Femininity, along with the associated context, and see how that "debate" would be received.

There is sincerely a need for dress code for women as well at the Oxford Union. I am myself a feminist; but feminism and vulgarity ain't concurrent, nor are they concomitants of each other. We women, or anyone for that matter, would, quite inadvertently, squirm if a man were to step into a premise as such (a scholastic debate wherein the attendees would least expect any queasiness and overt sensuality) wearing a banana hammock- then why should the rules be different for any gender?
@soyah1098

I guess when the debator is not only on point and articulated but feminine and attractive, it becomes all of a sudden a matter of dress code for women. When you show the moon to a dumb, it focuses on the finger that points the moon. Some people deserve jealousy I guess.

@@soyah1098 And may be some people just need to have more insight and the aptitude to accomodate the phenomenon of other denizens of this planet earth possessing different and this case - rather learned values.... Only a dick-head would try to subsume a fairly scholastic and discerned concern of Hegelian overcompensation into the garb of the filth in one's colon and back it out in the form of a poorly constructed, weak and quintessentially futile ad hominem...

@@AnyaChuri I couldn't have found a better illustration of what meaningless a succession of word could be. Your answer is even worse that I could have imagined. Pathetic attempt to look smarter than you will ever be. The poet Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux would have answered you this way : « Whatever we conceive well we express clearly, and words flow with ease». You should definitely work on that. Oh and english is not my native language as I am french. I can speak your language, I assume you can’t speak mine. Be humble if you can, ugly soul. Just in case, I am not attacking your physique.

@@soyah1098 My native language is a language called Marathi. I presume more than the efficacy of my adeptness at a foreign language (English) what offends you is that someone showed you your impertinence and fatuousness while you were all set to prance in the hubris one experiences before realising of having a foot in the mouth.... I understand my proficiency at English would not only bemuse you but also antagonise you for you think you got the better of Brits but man they made you lick their arses. And no: not just the 1700s... While I have my personal grudges against the Brits, I cannot more than appreciate the Anglicans to show someone there is much more than croutons, nudity and glitter in life... I can amply comprehend your frustrations at being incapacitated to fathom the crux of an intellectual hypotheses and quite tacitly (or not so tacitly) has this enraged you into axing your feet more.. So dear whosoever, there is something called an intellectually epistemological opinion of others. There is much more world than the shitty sillage of De Grasse could reach, much more than Louis Vuitton could glitter and much more than the lisp you could run in your mumble 💕
