I remember vividly enjoying and loving this game growing up as a little kid. I remember getting it for Christmas back in 1997, I don’t remember asking for the game so it was a surprise to me when I received it and it ended up among my favorite games for N64 along with Super Mario 64, Star Fox, and Yoshi Story. @@sega_kid4288 Yeah, there are these 3 "main bosses", each with their own machine. And near the end, they combine their mechs into one single larger mech. ^^ But I prefer the fights against these single mechs, cause I have a weakspot for "constantly moving bossfights". There is also this... monolith(?) who attacks you with bad words and you have to shake these into good words and attack the monolith with them.

Nice, you finally covered this game! I'll add, if you want an extra challenge: Go for the S ranks The ranks are based on time, and generally, the S ranks are amazingly brutal to get. Like for example, in the missle surf stage, at some point you gotta ditch and missile while making sure it's as straight as possible, and then finish the level without it, as quickly as possible before it collides with anything to get the S rank

You don't need to "play it any way you can" to use a different controller. Raphnet makes a gamecube to n64 controller adapter and even a SNES to n64 controller adapter, which, looking at the controls, is actually usable for this game. There's also the new Brawler controller. I don't really understand the hate the N64 controller gets though. I think it's a perfectly fine controller for the games that were on the system.

I have a cheap $10 USB N64 controller, works great for emulators. As for people hating on the N64 controller I always ask a simple question and get the same response 9/10 times: how are you holding it? They almost always say they held the left grip by the D Pad and tried to reach their thumb over to the analog stick. HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW TO GRAB THE CENTER GRIP!? It baffles me every single time... at least this game used the D Pad so it was not an issue.
@SNESdrunk
@SNESdrunk 4 жыл бұрын
My issue is not with the center grip. I mean come on, it should be obvious to any idiot to hold it that way. My issue is with the flimsy-beyond-flimsy joystick, and the C-buttons that kinda-sorta not-really serve as a 2nd joystick. Also the sheer size of the N64 controller has always been extremely off-putting to me.

I really enjoyed the hell out of this game. It was one I'd never heard of, but grandma got it for my brother. Took awhile to get used to it, but it was fun. Going for the gold I mentioned in another comment was a good challenge. Get no hit on bosses or get through that maze were the hardest ones. Really obscure gem in my opinion

I love these videos but the super polite ending always gets me. If I had one bit of feedback it would be to integrate the sign off with a summary or conclusion about the game. Great work either way though :)

I remember skipping this game every time I went to rental stores, because of the "scary" cover, and only after playing it any way I could I realized my mistake. This is a good game overall (not as good as the general internet people say it is, thought), but my highlights of the game are the boss fights. Each fight gets more and more creative with Marina's grab, culminating in a fight against freaking Megazord! One of my favorite final boss ever! Great video as always. And I hope you have a great rest of your day, too! PS: Am I the only person who likes the N64 controller? Aside from the flimsy stick, it is the most confortable controller I ever used, and it still good to hold today (unlike the progressively smaller controllers Nintendo dished out later. Curse you, Joy-Cons!).

This game is an absolute gem that I rented only once when I was a kid and didn't quite grasp how good it was, but wish I had more time to play it now as an adult.

Man I loved playing this when it came out I think it was 1999. Probably the best platformer I played on n64 but there was few platformers to begin with which was disappointing. But iirc it was quiet short and easy. But goddamn watching this has really brought back the memories man thanks for this video.

Early 3D is actually my favourite graphic style, but only if some parts of the game are 2D. Games like Symphony of the Night and Suikoden II just look so elegant, while games like Final Fantasy VIII and Resident Evil are impressive. The N64 didn't quite achieve this as good as the PS1, but this game looks nice so I might have to give it a try sometime.

I agree. Final Fantasy VIII was certainly impressive for it's time. And yes..even to this day, CastleVania: SotN is still my favourite 2D videogame from. I was also addicted to Suikoden II.
