There's a game with a very similar mechanic called avenging spirit which came out before this one in 1992 on the game boy. You possess enemy characters to progress through the game. As far as I'm aware that's the esrliest game with this mechanic but I could be wrong.

One thing to note: if you are going to play this on a real N64, then you have to use the original memory jumper pack. For whatever reason it is completely incompatible with the expanded memory pack and won't progress past a certain scene in the opening. I do not know if this is just simply an effect of my everdrive, but I know that it worked when I swapped packs. Otherwise this game is just bonkers.

Flashcarts are not emulators. They load the games image into the system exactly as a cartridge does. There is no emulation involved whatsoever as the system is playing the game that is loaded into it's memory. You could flash the rom onto a rom chip on a regular cartridge and it will work exactly the same as the original. Also, there are roms that were made for certain uses or for certain emulators that do not work on real hardware. However, there are multiple "sets" of roms that are 1:1 images of the games. There is nothing "unstable" about that. The only issues you run into with Everdrives is when you get a game that has a special chip/mapper in it that the Everdrive does not support. like the SuperFX chip and a few others. Flashcarts let you play updated versions of some games (sports games), romhacks of some of your favorite games, completely new games and, by far the best aspect, full translations. In other news I have a non-nintendo expansion pack and this game works just fine with my SD2SNES flashcart.
@rars0n
@rars0n 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, pulling the code off a flash cart would have no effect on how the game actually runs. There are at least a few games that won't run properly with the Expansion Pak installed. Killer Instinct Gold will not even boot.

Bought this off eBay and playing through it for the first time, and I'm kicking myself for not asking my parents for it back in the day. I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power, and I thought it sounded pretty cool, but I never even rented it for whatever reason. This wouldn't have been much of an issue at all back in the day, but I have noticed a few things about the game that haven't aged well. The camera is usually decent enough, but there are times when it is just terrible. The hit detection of the vines in the jungle stages is less then good. Jumping from one vine to the next works well, but you'll often miss grabbing the initial vine. The controls for the plane level and walrus racing level were really not that good either. Definitely could have used some tweaking. But overall it's still an amazing title, and it really should have had a sequel or five. I'd give it no less then an 8 out of 10.
