Keep in mind when Pat & Larry Vickers did there time in CAG there was not alot of this high tec stuff "tactical" stuff everywhere..even something as what today is a simple weapon light..we had to take a maglight have a commo guy do some wiring and make a remote switch. Laser aiming gadgets were big and heavy enough to be used as a back up CQB weapon.

You are making our military look bad. Nobody is gunna give you a pat on the back because you carried a heavy radio. You still were out there. You were still getting some. You signed up for it. Shut up. There is a 9 year old in Syria with no food, not one clean wound, and an old AK. Oh and he’s fucking ready for you. With all of his technology. So yeah. Let’s sit here and remind everybody that we didn’t have cool flashlights to help us win gunfights or we didn’t have a laser or we didn’t have this. It’s a sacrifice.

Takes all types to form a SOF Unit. But Tier One guys I have been around, and worked with, are all humble and genuine guys, who truly care about those they work with, and care more about getting the job done, than getting recognition or accolades. That shit comes with the job, but is seldom the focus. Plus OPSEC is pretty much the focus of everything you do in the SOF world. Quiet professionals, bro..

When your recruiting pool is special forces, what the heck do you expect? Not surprised the cowboy stuff doesn’t put the most people near the top. Yes, free thinking to come up with better solutions, but that cut above where you are also in hyper control as a matter of course, is just beyond. I remember reading about a retired operator (forgot the branch) who said in the top tier you don’t get kicked out, you kick yourself out if you can’t do the job right (paraphrasing). Skill AND seriousness are necessary. Thanks Pat.

In the Rangers, even though we weren’t Tier One, we still were held to that standard of discipline and maturity, and performance. Being a SOF unit, isn’t all sexy shit. You still have to do Staff Duty, CQ, range details, and all the other mundane bs any other big army unit has to do. You get to do a lot of sexy shit, and have an astronomical budget, but Soldiering is Soldiering. We used to call it “Big Boy Rules”. But with that comes Big Boy responsibility!

CAG or Combat Applications Group was a label given to the SFOD-1 unit in the early 2000s. After 09-11, Bush & his DoD team said; "let's streamline, re-set the upper level tier 1 units to have direct access". CAG later became ACE. The Navy after the bad Marcinko SEAL 6, Red Cell mess 🗂 said; let's rename it Development Group or Dev Gru. The SEALs go thru "Green Team" or selection then are assigned to a squadron. It was gold, blue but after 2010-2015 era more SEALs were added.

@SuperWagner23
@SuperWagner23 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, no. Army Special Forces aka Green Berets used to manufacture what they needed back in Vietnam, which is where they learned a lot of tactics from the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army. One has to remember, Pat is like 57/58, so times were different during his time I service. The advent of 911 really got research and development for special Operations going. For instance, I was an Army Ranger Infantryman. Before that I was a Nation Guardsman for 6 years (a NG contract is 6 years) to pay for my University studies. While at University I studied industrial arts or technology education which is fancy for shop teacher. I was on the wrestling team also. Taught school for 2 years. When I decided I wanted to enlist in the army active duty on a option 40 (Army Ranger)contract my schooling paid dividends. I had a minor in metallurgy/machining so I would fabricate or alter numerous equipment. You just do what you have to

To be clear, J-SOC or SOCOM based in MacDill AFB in Tampa Florida runs the upper end SOF units. SecDef Rumsfeld and Bush changed the upper level special ops units around 2005. Special operations units by law have separate funding, budgets 🗂, procurement policy than "line" units, "Big Army". The DoD or NSC(CIA) can add or fund projects, mission support as required. SF guys, Air Force STS, MARSOC, DevGru, etc all get funds outside of normal DoD budgets.

Delta was based off the SAS when it was created, from an organizational structure standpoint. That was in 1977. A lot has changed in Delta, the SAS, America, Britain, and the world as a whole since then. War is where you get good at war. The United States was actively engaged in 2 major wars for nearly 20 years. Delta in 2022 is superior to what Delta was in 2000 because of the lessons learned in combat. I have nothing to do with Delta. But Ive been a huge fan of the 22 SAS since I was a teenager in the eighties. Read a lot of books about the SAS. Ive read stuff written by SAS guys complaining about Delta as being too macho acting, like too much testosterone driven behavior compared to SAS. Whether that's really true I have no idea. My impression of SAS is they work direct under the British high command with no in between layers of management or bureaucracy whatsoever. SAS plays no games whatsoever, but also not macho acting...just go fast and get the job done. SAS has kind of a paranoid aspect to it, mild paranoia is good if you are operating deep deep behind enemy lines like SAS does. Paranoia equals violence at the target.
