This clean low-mile 2005 Chevy 2500HD sat for many years.
After a reman engine was installed, it never ran quite right.
Also the Check Engine light doesn't work...
Any parts required?
Enjoy!
Ivan

In the olden days we did what was called a "tune up." You replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, points, and condenser. If that didn't work you asked a real mechanic.

This is deja vu all over again... My 2004 2500HD just sat for 6 years and I only plowed with it in the winter... This spring, I put new heads and bump stick in it to drive it more often... I actually even registered it for the first time in years...Same location with the rodent damage... I had 2 chewed through wires and 12 with insulation stripped off... She's been smooth as butter ever since repairs... And ya gotta love the fuel efficient 6.0L.... LOL

Tip to find ignition related problems : 4:00 Rear o2 on Bank 2 is rich all the time. This indicates alot of HC. Alot of HC because there wasn't a complete combustion in cyl 2 and 6 because of weak spark. But we must mention it still is stoichiometric mix , so front o2 will have good readings. But the rear o2 reads rich because cat cannot oxidize the big amount of unburned HC ( its suppose to oxidize leftover HC only )

Hey Peter, I have sort of the same problems but they started after swapping the alternator. I put a voltage meter on the o2 sensors and they go from .5 to .9 except bank2 sensor 2 it just stays at 1 doesn’t move. I had the cat plug up on that side so I had them swapped with a set I had off a hemi charger but noticed the loud driver side lifters and something just not right shortly after they were installed. When I get on it it will cackle like a 64 impala with glass packs and rounded tip but ifs not coming from the exhaust but the motor! I also noticed the guy put the cat about 2 ft back further and it’s 2 inches away from that sensor now so maybe he got it to hot welding it ? Thoughts?

it's likely more of a "ford" thing and them reusing very worn out parts. much more of the vintage GM stuff had stronger parts, which would last longer and through a rebuild or two. they knew the GM gearhead folks were more likely to modify and tune for more power, also much of it would have been corvette designed pass-downs. sometimes it makes sense to keep using the costly R&D and same manufactures in greater bulk quantity, than to design "chintzy" parts to cut costs, which often ends in negative returns.

And that's why people love you...they know you will repair with "no parts required" if you can. Had the same misfire codes on my 06 silverado, a week ago, (it wasn't cylinder specific and my check engine light did work). Had nice MSD wires on it so I assumed the previous owner did a tune-up on it. Nope, previous owner just changed the wires. The spark plugs were a pain to remove and I snapped a plug and rounded a plug hole in the process (they seemed like the original plugs AC Delco). What a pain removing that snapped plug. Great work Ivan!

@@dogsplantscarsneatstuff176 I am not really sure, but I would bet money they were the original plugs. I bought the truck with 154,000 miles on it. It has about 190 on it now. I would have changed the plugs but the wires look pretty new (MSD). I will never know. It was a learning moment for me. From now on do a complete tune-up when buying a used car. I tried using a thread chaser but ended up using a tap. The tap was enough to clean out the hole without using a heli-coil. So far, so good...runs great with no codes. Fingers are crossed.

I try to use NGK in every situation possible. When NGK is not available for a particular application and I am forced to use Ac Delco, Motorcraft, etc., I always bring a dvom and check the resistance of each plug and I typically see plugs that have resistance of up to 8-13K ohms!! and have to go through many boxes to find acceptable resistance of 4-5k ohms. I very rarely ever find an NGK with a resistor higher than 5500 ohms.

My son had a similar vintage Avalanche with the same motor that had the same problem. He replaced the intake gaskets and o2 sensors, still had the check engine light. At idle the engine was dead smooth. Had my nephew check it with his scanner and he found #6 wasn't contributing at all. Replaced the plug and it was fine. Odd that at idle you could set a half full beer bottle on the hood and it didn't show any vibration.

This is identical to the issue I had with a truck I just bought from auction...only after I found and corrected the initial multi cylinder misfire I got from the entire passenger side bank of fuel injectors stuck closed. It was like traveling down the road of neglected maintenance. First was the injectors, which cleaned it up enough to diagnose ignition issues, then the plugs and wires, then a lazy O2 sensor. Every other issue the truck had which seemed to be a repeat of finding an initial issue only to find a secondary issue. Not really a nightmare, but definitely annoying, especially troubleshooting the headlights only to find they removed every single bulb. That saved them under $20 total. Also, why does it seem to always be cylinder #6 on LQ/LS engines? What gives?

No codes after the stall and restarts, it will drive fine until it sneaks up again. It can run fine for days or cut out 3 times in a row. The car has been to 3 shops and many parts fired at it. I alread have a good ideal on something I seen during the test drive. I really wanted to do it to plug Scannerdanner. Without that man I wouldn't own what I own. When I went to unplug the pcm is when I found the problem the connector was seized in the pcm. I finally got it free with WD and time. I cleaned up best to my ability (green crusties) and that did the trick. The thing I dont understand is how it didn't set a code. The customer did state some times it would bing the light upon stalling with a red lighting bolt and others it wouldn't. It never set a code for me and it was clearly dropping out. It looked like a failing abs sensor when you get that quick glitch. If I didn't have a scope I wouldn't of been able to pinpoint it. Textbook example why firing the parts cannon can end up being a horrific solution to the war that is auto repair. All hail General Ivan! Hahahaha. Well done yet again. A smart exterminator would give you a referral fee for all the critter evidence you run across at people’s homes.

2010 Chevy Aveo 1.6. Dead miss on accel. Engine light on but NOT for misfires, for a stupid evap vent sol. Nothing pending. #3 plug cracked. Point is do not rely on the engine computer to tell you codes on regarding misfires 100% of the time. Also in IL, they will reject any vehicle that fails the bulb test, or has that code.

The score after so many years...Mice 6, Truck 0. Another gm design disaster. You can't design a mouse proof fuse panel!?! And, you want $60+k for a new one...No, no, no and HELL NO!!! Keep them all!!! Nice finish Ivan.

PCM connections were under the fuses? Do you still feel that you cannot bidirectionally control the check engine light now that all wires are repaired?

Don't you just love customers who breathe down the back of your neck while your trying to diagnose their car? Tell him to go for a nature walk, I'll call you when i'm done. lol. 2008 1500 4.8 I had a p0300 but scanner showed misfire on #6 and everything checked out ok, I did put plugs in it though but still the miss was there and the cel was flashing but all the pids looked great, I checked inj. and spark with scope everything was perfect, just off idle it was fine, I even tried a new intake gasket, nothing so then I put half a can of SeaFoam in the oil and drove it about 10 miles when I pulled back into the driveway I thought the thing died it was running so smooth, no cel no misfires no nothing, crazy lifter is all i can figure. Peace!!

Lessons of the day. Rodents cause a lot of damage to cars and maintenance using good parts is important.

I put all new AC Delco double platinum plugs and wires on my Buick Regal GS with the 3800 and now have misfires. Put in Bosch copper plugs and checked all wires, some weren't even crimped correctly... Now it runs kinda OK, only small misfires under high load low rpms. Very disappointed by AC Delco, a brand I used to like a lot.

Years ago they had Bosch platinums with a rebate and I put them every 80k miles in my 2002 lesabre. Never had a problem. This year at 230k I got rebates on delco iridiums from Napa and GM hope they turn out oK. I probably should have stayed with Bosch.

This is why it pays to take care of the local feral cat community or a couple if they hang around your house, a little food and water and they are the best rodent deterrents you can find, a house cat might in some cases will do the job but they can become too complacent and used to cat food where as a strictly outdoor cat is meaner. One time I had both in a little black female, she was an excellent mouser, the only thing is they want to share their kill with you and will leave you the occasional head at your door but you get used to it.

Great way to find this problem, from now on let's look for rodents. Here in the west we don't have this problem in the city. Like the video thanks 😊
