This week Papa J decided to bring his 1950 Dunphy wooden runabout up to the lake but the 25 hp Johnson outboard starts to misfire after a few minutes of running. Do we have what it takes to get it running flawlessly to enjoy the rest of the weekend?

Push the wire through the boot, put the plug connector on the end, then pull it back into the boot. A little silicone spray helps. Also, clean out the plug boot and put a liberal amount of dielectric grease inside the boot (this is probably what really caused the problem in the first place). Once the inside of those boots "carbon track" it's tough to make them work properly again, but that'll give you about the best shot at it. Or buy a new boot- they're basically the same ones they use on a good quality set of automotive plug wires. Enjoy the boat! Not many of them still running around.

Cool old boat! Any updates on the 550?

Thanks! For the 550 I have a Solas impeller and Wax Racing stainless wear ring but won’t get it in the water anymore this season (it’s 38°F here this morning!). I’ll do a pump rebuild video this winter then get it in the water first thing next season!
