how time flies!! i was 12 yrs old in 1973 when i watched the miss universe only because miss phils won. i didn't pay much attention then until 1974 when the contest was held in manila. and our tv sets was only in black and white. if you had a color tv, you were rich then. since then, i have watched every miss universe to this day. i can compare the decades of candidates and the times, the girls, the whole show have truly evolved. only goes to prove the only thing permanent is change. beauty is truly shaped by the changing times.

the candidates are truly natural beauties , you can really notice that there are no enhancements done just plain beauty and make-up to highlight their features. even when they walk its natural unlike nowadays walking the pasarela is looking so funny and un-natural as if they are always walking in the ramp. Bob Barker was such a big part of the success of these pageants - no one who came after Bob could hold a candle to him. It's such a shame the producers refused to get rid of furs, prompting Bob to step away from the pageants.

Nope, Bob Barker is racist and a known sex predator. His bad behavior onscreen with some of the contestants not only on MsU but at MsUSA too speaks volume of his true character. Dick Clark and Bob Goen I believe are the true epitome of gentlemen emcees for both MsU and MsUSA, too bad their contracts were short-lived. JMHO.

Philippines won that year maybe because the judges saw her stood out from among those beautiful latinas & europeans who wore the same hairstyles. They're all pretty but looked the same. Philippines opted to be different. Even the greek photographers chose her as Ms Photogenic. She must have something different from the other girls, which the judges liked.

In the world of beauty pageant, where the majority of women are of European beauty and some people always have this kind of belief that they are more superior than others, unfortunately, this doesn't work anymore .Beauty pageant =beauty + brain and not only for beautiful body and face. Being come from a rich country does not count either.

Truly its a wealth of Filipinos that they are very fluent in communicating in English and would be very spontaneous in answering the most difficult questions in simple ways. During that time where majority of the contestants failed to express themselves in English, Philippines , ms Margarita Moran, eloquently and clearly express herself to the world how she would be a productive and ideal citizen of the world by owning a place to stay and be happy with it by sharing it as well to other people. That's Ms Philippines spark during 1973 contest. Congrats Ms Philippines! My fellow Filipino .=)

Yes, Miss Universe 1973 charmed the Spanish-speaking judges at the pageant. It was known that she did her preliminary interviews in Spanish with some of the spanish-speaking judges.

Amanda always impressed me. She was somewhat anti-pageant and yet so successful. She believed, if I'm here, I might as well do my best. Her talent agent at home. Molly, really gets the credit for pushing Amanda into the pageant world. She will always remain one of my favorite Miss USA's.

She was the most elegant of the bunch and she had a regal walk. Look at her poise. She had a classic face befitting the Greek setting. Have you seen the swimsuit portion? Margie Moran has the most beautiful figure. I saw her in person as well and her skin was unblemished. So stop the crap Cesar.

The winner was very appropriate. She was the one. Style, poise, elegance, class and smart. She was a favourite of the international press as well as the Greek press. However, the 1st Runner-Up should have been Miss Spain. But Miss Israel - a very stupid woman. A wonderful, historic and beautiful venue and setting. What a gift and honour for the contestants and MU Org. Also the host, Mr. Bob Barker, there is nothing to say but what a natural, professional host and character. Forever the best!

Did you know that Miss Universe 1972 Australia's Kerry Anne Wells was already a mother of a 4 year old boy when she won the crown? When the secret was known by MU Org., they initially wanted to dethrone her and offered it to her 1st runner up from Brazil.After careful consideration and much thought,they reinstated Wells and kept the secret to the public since the org didn't want any scandal to tarnish the image of the pageant.

Subdued National Costumes,Fab evening gowns,beffiting of the best stage setting ever in the entire history of the pageant for 69 years. The only thing added is the lightings,sounds&some modern chairs. The more than two thousand year old Herod Atticus theater is fantastic.

Did you ever notice that in the 70s and 80s, if the pageant was held outside the U.S., the producers would always ensure that the host country's representative would get tossed into the semi-finalists no matter how plain she happened to be

This was one of those Miss Universe editions where in the winner was predictable right from the start of the pageant. Margie Moran was a stand out among all the girls. One of those editions wherein the winner was truly deserving!

@@soniadeabreu9607 Unfortunately for you it's the truth, she was the top favorite from day 1of the competition, and the greek people were rooting for her and likened her to a greek goddess. She was deemed the only candidate with CLASS and was expected to clench the MU 73 title.

I much prefer this Miss Universe crown than the present one . This crown was very royal , elegant and very symbolic of a woman's beauty .

I totally agree that the Chandelier Crown was the best of all Ms. Universe Crowns!!! Classic, elegant and represented the Ms. Universe pageant as perfect image for women of beauty and character. . .

politics? of course! israel with the blessings of america destroyed Lebannon and berut for making israel their dog at the area ...for the history till the war of 90s Lebannon was called ''The Paris of East'' that says it all... it was so beautiful and elegant city.
