How did they decide who got to represent United States? We thought it was usually Miss USA runner-up or at least someone from the Miss USA pageant that year. Alexandria Mills was an excellent representative and even won. However, we didn't know how the US rep for Miss World was chosen and the whole thing worked. Also, was there talent and what did she do? This is all confusing for us. Congrats Alexandria! You did us proud!

@@figureskating2724 She was selected by Elite Modeling Management which had the license to chose the American representative. They didn't hold a national pageant but opted to do a casting from a list of models that qualified based on Miss World rules. I don't know about her talent as that particular competition is not mandatory. She did place 2nd in swimwear and 3rd in the top model contest. The national pageant for Miss World is not well known in the states but it attracts girls from the Miss USA and Miss America systems. The current pageant is called America's Miss World and they held a virtual contest a few months ago as a result of covid restrictions.

@@mikmowmil Thanks for your response. We didn't know how it worked. The 1st runner-up at the Miss USA 1990 pageant was our representative for the Miss World competition and won Miss World 1990. We just assumed that all of the 1st runner-ups at the Miss USA pageants went on to Miss World, Here is our link to our rep and example in 1990: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gina_Tolleson . We are clueless on how it all works. How long has Elite Modeling Mgmt been choosing the US rep? Do they do it all the time? Do they try to get experienced pageant contestants?

It seems like the 1st runner-up at the Miss USA pageant was the rep from 1981-1991. Maybe that's why we thought so since it occurred for 10 years. It seems like the Miss USA World representative is chosen differently now? Also, what did Alexandria win in 2010 - prizes?

Winner is good TBH Miss USA was second in Beach beauty and third in top model, those are strong predicting factors those time.

Well nobody knows the criteria of judging this pageant or on what basis results are taken but the winner of MW has become really successful in their careers as compare to MU. I mean we know how MU is judged but we don’t know about MW. I don’t understand on what basis they choose but definitely they look for something different in the contestants and choose the one best as MW. Which is why MW has better success ratio than MU, which is very transparent.

Venezuela is a global superpower of pageants, they dominated Miss universe, miss international and miss earth but recently they are not that successful in Miss world. Its because miss world have different criteria and not a traditional pageant anymore. The biggest injustice I think is the top 40 placement of Venezuela in Miss world 2021 where she was predicted to win, at least top 5 material. I heard Julia Morley said in 2018 that Venezuela and India-two countries with most wins, will not win miss world again until Julia Morley step down as head of miss world. This is to give other countries a chance to win as countries like Canada France and Indonesia are waiting very long to win this title.

@@cristopherCVP Cool! Thanks for the info. We never heard of it. We did notice that some of the top contestants from the Miss USA pageant were our representative like 1st runner-up. However, we didn't know that there was a Miss World America event. Thanks!

@@figureskating2724 Runner up of Miss USA will NO WAY go to Miss World since Miss USA is under the Miss Universe system. Miss USA is very specifically for Miss Universe. (Also Miss Universe and Miss World are somehow rivals, so.. yeah)

From 2007-2011, Elite Models were the responsible organisation for US Miss World franchise by handpicking from one of their models.

USA sent first runner up to miss world from 1981 to 1991. After that different organizers choose the US delegate to mw. It has no connection to Miss USA or miss universe because Miss world has different criteria and taste, they choose delegate whom they felt most likely to succeed in Miss world standards

Miss World presentation is more dignified and classy . The Delegates in Miss World are more beautiful and relatable . Miss Universe is more of a Hollywood type television show featuring beautiful girl from different countries

I agree. They Morley family tried to make this pageant way too politically correct and boring but I do like the MW crowning ceremony better. I wish they would bring back the swimsuits and make it a beauty pageant again!

@@joelwilliam6633 Yes, because Julia said in a press conference in 2015 that miss world is no longer a beauty pageant but rather a festival and a celebration. That's why they removed swimsuit and focus heavily on charities. Entertainment is no longer a priority, they focus on money and charities, its a business after all. I'm a huge fan of miss universe until the 1990s I switched to miss world from 2000-2014 I'm back to Miss universe from 2015 until now
