I think we have to remember this movie isn’t meant to convince us fans to watch F1. It’s meant to attract new fans so it needs a lot of fiction to captivate a newer audience. We have to remember to separate movie from reality.

The trailer " is it safe? It doesn't have to be safe?" Not something I want associated with F1 fictional or otherwise.

The thing about making movies about sports, is that there are so many real life instances where it plays out exactly like a movie. You don't actually have to embellish a lot. The British GP is a perfect example. 39 year old, 7x world champ hasn't won in the last 2.5 years, he's had his 8th basically ripped out from under him for spectacle, announced he's switching teams, all the rest. Goes out and wins his home GP after all this time. Add in a 5 lap battle to the line against Max and maybe some inner demons or something for a more dramatic movie, but they could play his actual radio call at the end of the race and I guarantee that non-f1 people would be in as many tears as real f1 fans were this past weekend. Even as a neutral, I couldn't help but feel a little emotional for Lewis. Guy's literally got everything in the world, he doesn't need a single person to feel sorry for him for the rest of his life, but you have to be a complete robot to not be able to see how much that meant to him, the team and the fans.

This was really educational about movie making and the economics of the industry. Like Spanners, I was surprised about the impact of Black women as movie goers! Also, the thought process of movie making with actors, different teaser and trailers. It was great having an insider with experience really added value to this episode. Congratulations on a very strong podcast!!!!

It is a dream come true to see a collab between my favorite F1 podcast and a personal hero of mine in Travon. This ep was awesome! I appreciate that y’all go out of your way to bring in experts from other fields to discuss topics outside your areas of expertise. It makes for really insightful content. I’m really looking forward to this movie! It’s going to have some eye rolling moments for sure but the theater experience is going to be unreal. Apple have proven they are serious when it comes to high quality production. Also Hans Zimmer is doing the score and given what he did with Rush I have very high hopes.

People get to see racing all the time. It's the story behind the driving that interests us, it's what DRS revealed. Jet fighters up and close, few people get to experience that. F1, millions of fans worldwide do annually.

For the record, the Stallone movie 'Driven' originally was supposed to be about F1. But Ecclestone refused to grant the rights so it became about Champ Car. "That's why put Damson Idris in it".... Am I the only one who's never heard of Damson Idris? Btw, I do like that they went for a lesser known name, because then you can imagine he's actually the guy in the movie. Very few actors are as good as f.e. Denzel Washington (if he cares about the role) who could become a completely different person. And when it comes to trying to reach a certain demographic, It's kinda standard to go for a white and black guy. Especially if you want to sell the movie worldwide. Some time of Asian from one of the movie industries from the east would make more sense to me. The trailer looked good though, I'll definitely watch it.

This movie was made with full cooperation with the FIA and F1 so they aren’t going to allow the movie to look like teams can just ignore safety

No mention of "Grand Prix"? Best car racing movie ever imho never mind just F1. Must be because I am of another generation, though it was filmed before I was born.

Agreed! Did you know they turned to NASA to find technology to film and operate the cameras on the cars? And the camera car was a rebuilt GT40, only. Car able to follow..

I think the production team will be trying to stay away from the Uncanny Valley. That is, F1 appears almost but not quite real. I think their goal will be to immerse us into their fictional F1 world, without entering the Uncanny Valley where its an almost F1. As always, its easier to do with an audience less immersed in the F1 culture. Thanks as always for making the video sir.

It's actually kinda shocking to hear thay Damson Idris is not popular/known in some circles. I was wondering why they weren't promoting him more on the posters given how controversial Brad Pitt can be these days. Didn't even cross my mind that he didn't have enough "star power" 😂. You learn everday

The scene where Brad is telling a woman that F1 isn't about being safe, cold waters any hope for this movie. It's like saying, "sex is hazardous, and so many things can go wrong," in a romance movie. It's mind numbing.

I’m with Cristina-I’m worried it’ll be a little too ‘realistic’ seeing current teams/drivers/cars in a fictional movie. Realistic in the sense that it’ll take me out of the movie

The trailer looked like hot garbage, CGI cars the same as the Sky F1 intro, and it dropping before one of the best races of recent times makes it look even worse. There's no way it's going to be more entertaining than that Silverstone race.
