1ヶ月間、日本語を勉強しています so this is coming at the best time! i don't have the genki books yet, i'm using a mixture of tae kim's grammar guide, japanese ammo with misa and organic japanese with cure dolly for grammar. the latter two are massively useful and explain the sentence structures so well, rather than just saying this does this for no reason. all of them have structured classes/videos. for vocab i'm just taking it as it comes because i already know a lot of random basic vocab from anime and jpop

I have a very very very strange question. I lived in Japan for about 2 years in 2010 and 2011 and struggled a lot with learning the language, and of course I couldn't say everything I wanted to say, but reflecting on my experience it was more than that... I began to feel that the Japanese language itself could not convey everything I wanted to say, as if English was simply "better" at communicating ideas, even if I ever did become perfectly fluent at Japanese. Does that make sense? Maybe it's bad to say but that's how I felt. Have you ever felt this way? Will there ever be a point that I could say EVERYTHING I want to with as the same level of expression as I have in English (I'm not great at communicating in my native language either haha but you get the point) or is the Japanese language quite literally lacking in this way? ... I don't know because it always seemed out of reach and almost fictional and unreal to me, like it never could equate to what was possible in English. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
@MissHanake
@MissHanake 4 жыл бұрын
hmm i think i can understand your feeling. however, i think a huge part of speaking in a foreign language is putting your whole self and your thoughts into its context? like when i am speaking japanese, i'm not necessarily just translating all my usual english thoughts into japanese, it's like i have a separate section of my brain for when i'm speaking in japanese, that knows it can only express things using the words that i have in that chunk of my brain? and so maybe the japanese-speaking version of me isn't quite as eloquent or expressive as when i speak in english, but i do find i can express what i want to express in a sincere/genuine way. japanese people manage to communicate with the people around them, so so can you, if you learn enough to have the tools to express your thoughts & can manage to arrange your thoughts into a way that can fit through the japanese language...i guess? does that make sense? this is not scientific at all, it's just how i think about it. & i'm not saying you have to be a different person or have different thoughts, i just feel like the thoughts have to come out of your primal basic thought bit of your brain and through your language bit of your brain in a different way 😅 i hope that helped?

I'm a beginner Japanese-learner too, and in order to learn kanji I'm using the Heisig method, you can download for free the complete pdf of the book "Remembering the Kanji", it's available on the internet. I learned 100 kanji in one week. I've been studying Japanese for one month. If you want to invest some money on your learning process, Wanikani is good too, but I'm not using it anymore since it costs too much. Those are the best resources that I found. Happy learning!

@@paisley5820 here's the link for the pdf: www.lukeranieri.com/japanese/files/Heisig-RememberingTheKanji_vol1.pdf That's the one I'm using, if I remember correctly; But you are right, there are many incomplete versions of the book out there, it took a while to find the right one, whole, pdf. If you need any other help, feel free to contact me. Japanese certainly is a difficult, but fascinating language. Bye

@@paisley5820 go on the Mass immersion approach website and download their RRTK deck. I did all of RTK in 3 months and really regret because linking kanji to english keywords doesnt work well at all for writing. You can finish the RRTK deck in 2 months pretty easy and you can just learn the rest through reading immersion.

Another tip: focus on certain skills. Learning to speak, hear, read and listen is quite much for a beginner and you feel like never becoming good in any of these. Try to focus on the one or two skills you are most interested in.
@MissHanake
@MissHanake 4 жыл бұрын
that’s a good tip! its hard to improve consistently across all four skills, especially when self teaching. all are important & require a little bit of love and attention but it’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re first starting!
