Loved the review Terry. Do you think the 770’s would work well in a small 8m2 room paired with a Sugden A21SE amplifier?

I had a NAD integrated and Mission 700s because it was what I could afford. 40 years later, my dream speaker is still the 780 Argonauts. It is nice to read the comments of a person who remembers the Mission hay days

Do yourself a favour Gorkhan. Check how much is to ship a box that it’s 90x60x60 with 25kg inside at least twice. You can argue that for companies is a bit cheaper, but then what about real state and r&d, not to mention international certification and other inflation factors. The world is getting ridiculous in prices all together.

@@BastianUllr I just bought a bike rack 90kg in a giant box made out of cast iron and steel for a reasonable price. 6, 7, 8K for a decent sounding speaker is unreasonable to me. Until someone comes along and changes the game, however, decent speakers will be priced at 6-7K, flawed speakers will go for 2.5k (not enough resolution or not enough bass). I will stick to my “acceptable” speaker which costs a whopping $800.

​@@gokhanersan8561 If it is unreasonable for you, you think you know too much. Try becoming a supply chain manager to see how costs are managed for these assets and you might find answers. If you care for pure sheer raw performance, period, try then getting Pro Audio and see if prices are more favourable. Yes, you would not see 100,000 pricetag that you see from ridiculous speakers from Focal or Wilson, yet, you still see a pricetag that's nowhere near sensible and that competes for a market that sets a foot in businesses and venues. Big and competitive market, yet prices are still in the thousands. Genelec, JBL, HEDD is not really cheap neither. The fact that you disagree with something, does not mean that you are simply right about it. Maybe you lack information? Simpler to complaint than to understand, there is no doubt about it. But I grant you this, if you listen to moderate levels and have no room acoustic treatment, all you need is an $800 dollars speakers. No questions, they are incredibly good nowadays. I personally do not care for multi tens of thousands systems at all. What I heard is rather underwhelming for what they pay. Seriously, they never stop being an stereo. But, up to a point they are expensive goods, specially considering the figures they end up selling and what not. Not many, I assure you that. I feel fortunate to have the rig I have, no doubt, but I use a pair of Sony MDREX15LP at work, or when out and about. Less stress, and I love the sound. No need to be a snob because I have carbon ceramic woofers at home, or a pair of Beryllium IEMs... they are not really that much better to be unable to enjoy music no more or anything. That's just silly. But, Shipping a pair of stand mounts is regularly many times the price of its parts already. You're not just being charged the things, but the whole supply chain so it can be sustainable. You are a patron, not just a client.

Where did you hear these at home or dealer or something? You can see why I like them

I use 760i also. They sound really good! I use them with Cambridge Audio A300 at the minute but going to get a Cambridge Audio AXA35 soon.

It will be the same as with all speakers but the trick with the Missions will be not to muddy their sound because their resolution is fantastic and being greedy with the bass could mask that. It will be a fun challenge to integrate the rels and they will make the systems sound grow up and improve the dimensionality too so its worth the work.

Great based against everything I have had in my room, of course not the best but great enough for me to buy them fwiw :)

@@PursuitPerfectSystem haha alas I know that all to well. I’d love to get a chance to try the missions, I’ve always been a fan of the originals.

My room is pretty small and they are fine in there, more width would make for a wider sound stage of course but they should be ok. I would say this is a lot of money to spend so best play safe and see if you can get a home demo to see for sure

@@PursuitPerfectSystem I’m not being sarcastic- bass is like that always, but above 400hz they measure just how I find I regularly prefer speakers. That roll off at the top and all, no presence bumps, no tricks. Very interesting to me.

Sorry havent tried either. You could use these for home cinema they would be more than fine, not sure about near field though you would be best to email Mission about that and ask

I am an independent third party and saw this exact pair being built by hand in the UK..no straws in sight haha. No port chuffing no real weaknesses, great speaker

Not yet that is my next step and video, I think depending in certain factors you can get away without a sub with the 770 but I think the REL will be a improvement to the system.

Interestingly these new Mission 770 are designed by the man who designed the HB1

@@PursuitPerfectSystem I’m still enjoying my LS50th anniv since 2012 and my 105/3 since 1992. If my budget allows I’ll go for the Kef reference 1, but before making the jump I’ll have a listen to the 770 😄

I prefer the look of the Linton's and their stands as separate items Vs the missions. Missions with grilles off wins though.

Linton are not a direct competitor to the 770 they just a similar form factor (loosely, similar size) - if you look at direct competition of a British made 2 way speaker it would be something like a Harbeth C7ESR XD and see what they sell for with no stands

I think they're overpriced too. £2000 is probably where they ought to be. But being made in UK does that.

@@peterwood2633 if you compare to the harbeth and Spendor simialr size and spec speakers both are more expensive. You cannot judge value before even hearing the speakers and seeing them in the flesh.

@@PursuitPerfectSystem aren't harbeth notoriously expensive though? No idea re spendor. The missions do sound like they are hifi yet pleasant to listen to from your description with little fatigue.

I talk about this in the video - they are not designed to have the same sound signature but either way the Mission is a much higher resolution speaker aka a much better speaker

There are not many bad products out there that I know of, the standard from cheap to expensive HiFi is generally very good across the board so I think the real challenge for manufacturers is standing out in the sea of good products.

The blueprints for the original died long ago with the designer. Peter Comeau who designed these had to work out what was going on from scratch including dissecting the crossover which was not a common design at all. Watch the other video I mentioned and you will see these new 770 are nothing like the old ones really except the size shape look and then the best bits about how they sounded. Its very interesting to see them old and new side by side

They are exactly the same, except for the cabinet, crossover, woofer, tweeter, and port. 😆

In the previous interview video I noticed in footage technician using a bit driver non perpendicular to the cabinet. Maybe at around 70 degrees or so, made me cringe.

@@vtkz yeah big peak at 30hz is not really an issue with speakers more with subwoofers but I am an expert with Dirac Live so i dont worry about that

The 770 are not lacking bass they are just tuned to sound a certain way keeping the mids intact. If they were lacking bass I wouldn't have liked them as much as I do

Interesting comment because I have looked at 19 different speakers ranging from £600 to a £1000 none of them compare

I think they look great!

In room they play to 30hz, looks is personal but you will need to have seen them in the flesh, seen them being built, listened to them compared to other similar model speakers which mostly cost more and only then can you decide on their value. Otherwise your basing your opinion on nothing, its fact less which is not sensible

@@jkester77 i have demonstrated how good these speakers are already you can't bias sound quality - nothing more needs to be said about that. I am sorry but your opinion on the looks of the speaker without seeing them in the flesh is semi justiifed but any further opinion on value unless you have spent time with these speakers is the optime of a biased opinion. Sorry but that is true, it cannot get any more biased than that.
