My grandpa flew P-38's in your neck of the woods during world war II. At 102 he is still with us so I will have to ask if he is familiar with that airfield, he has a huge logbook with all his flight hours and types of aircraft he has flown. Anything from the P-39 King Cobra to the P-47 Thunderbolt

Learn't to ride motorcycles Easter 1970 at Linden haven plantation which is not far from Gasmata airstrip .There was a Val dive bomber with the tail blown off, on the strip then, that ended up in a Texas museum. There were a couple of Zero's there ,there was a Dinah there as well. I think it probably dissolved into the ground because of the high magnesium content aluminium used in their construction. Just off the shore from the plantation house there was a Zero on floats upside down with bombs still on it's wings which I believe has since been destroyed .My father was flying for Crowley airways at the time .If you get a chance next time you go there see if some body knows if the plantation is still operational . I looked on google earth nearly two lengths of the strip north of the east end of the runwway may have been House and the processing shed right on the waters edge from what I remember. Cheers Roger Hardy

I grew up on the island of Guam in the pacific ocean. On the weekends we would sometimes head up to Saipan. Continental airlines used the old Japanese airfield as the airport. you would land on the runway and taxi back to the airport building (WW II quonset hut) you would only see the jungle around you.

Love your videos. Still scares the hell out of me with all the right rudder trim you have cranked in there. Exhausting as it is on take off and climb a loss of power on take off, high angle of attack coming off the ground having to react get speeds right pick a place to land trying emergency power, etc… seems like a good recipe for a stall spin of uncoordinated airplane. You do you. Keep the blue up and brown down! Safe travels

An RNZAF Ventura remains parked on a small strip at Talasea after a forced landing following flak damage over Rabaul. It flew on one engine for quite some time and the pilot decided to land it at a small strip in American territory rather than press his luck further. An intact P38 is sunk in a large swamp a few miles away and further inland but its exact location is now unknown. It was on the surface for a long time apparently. Both free to a good home - maybe.

Ryan, stellar video as usual. Could you explain why you turned on your ignitors and switch to "bypass"? When going through the rain?I assume that means fuel bypass so either tank can feed in the event of an emergency maneuver
@PDAUSRC
@PDAUSRC 2 ай бұрын
Turbine engine combustion chamber fire is self sustaining once started but ignition turned on in heavy rain reduces possibly of flaming out. Bypass selection makes all main engine intake air follow a curved diverging path into compressor whereby any foreign objects like birds, water etc continue straight on, miss the compressor inlet and exit the cowling. Nothing to do with fuel system in this case. Cheers, A&P mech. Ret.

Haha, happy resurrection Sunday, Easter however you wanna say it. God Bless You, stay safe out there Brother. It’s a fresh perspective seeing you soaking wet. I’m no pilot but I’d love to have the opportunity, your videos a very good for educational purposes along with the entertainment; the way you always shout out your intentions is refreshing. Anyone doing a job for thousands of hours can get complacent and spin it into the ground cause the forgot something crucial like pulling their prop to feather instead of the throttle(s) back. An aborted takeoff on a wet runway in an aircraft like a caravan seems like it’d be hairy, I wouldn’t know though 😂. I’m glad to see you have your First Officer George with you, he seems to like to fly. Just make sure you never need him. Have a good day!
