Here's a little lesson for Mississippi John Hurt's classic Make me a Pallet on your Floor! I'm making a point here to talk about Mississippi John Hurt's picking style and pulse he delivers that makes Make me a Pallet on your Floor sound the way it does. So much more than just playing the chords!

yes, ive just realsied all the songs I like start onthe fourth chord - seems it was quite common in early jazz and blues - even songs ive been singing for a while i didnt realise until recently.

this guy kicks ass hahaha, i’ve always hated it when guitar teachers would say “play an Asus 7 minor” (idek what that is) and expect you to know. this guy just says play this, doesn’t matter what it is, it’s just right. found him just today and def gonna watch a lot more :)

Ha! Thanks bud! I'm a little guilty of geeking out over "Asus 7 minors" as well, but I also totally see the value of just saying, "here, play this!". Thanks so much for tuning in!

interesting and little known fact, the title was later changed to the pallet maker in 1929 and rereleased as the 1st song on the soundtrack to what became the worlds first slasher film that was inspired and made after this song!! 🤠💥

What brand of guitar are you playing? I know it's a 12 fret.

This ones a Fraulini! The model is an Erma. Hand made by Todd Cambio out in Madison, Wi, have you heard of him? Highly recommend it if you're ever looking for a new axe! It's designed after an early Stella like Blind Blake would have played.

@@kostringworks I haven't heard of him. I will look him up. That guitar fits the style of the old blues guy. Last year I purchased my parlor guitars, a 14 fret and a 12 fret. I wish I would have played one much earlier.

@@rong648 totally. D28's have there place, but man I love me a parlor. Curious what brand did you end up going with for your 14 and 12 frets then? Ton of great stuff out there now for parlors.

@@kostringworks I now have four parlor guitars, (3) Alvarez and (1) Fender. Alvarez 12 fret all solid African mahogany, 12 fret solid spruce top mahogany back and sides, 14 fret solid AA Northwestern red cedar Macassar ebony back and sides and the Fender 14 fret solid spruce top mahogany back and sides.
